1. Refer to: 

Balance Shaft Assembly

Engine - 2.2L Duratorq-TDCi (129kW/175PS) - 
DW, Removal and Installation). 

2.   

Measure the backlash between the 
balance shaft and crankshaft. 
Install the measuring shims (57). 
Install the new balance shaft assembly, 
tighten the bolts evenly in 2 stages to the 
sequence shown. 

Torque: 

 

5 Nm 
22 Nm 

Stage 1:

3. Install the Special Tool(s):

4. Push the ballance shaft until it stops. 

5.  

6. Remove the Special Tool(s): 

303-1330

 

7.   

Turn the crankshaft in the normal 
direction of rotation, measure and record 
the backlash on every quarter rotation of 
the balance shafts, until 8 readings are 
taken and the crankshaft has completed 1 
revolution. 

 

  

  

8.   

Take the minimum clearance values, to 
select the required shims. 
For example minimum clearance value 
0.2mm = shim thickness 1.29mm = shim 
marking 29

CAUTIONS: 

Note the position of each component 

before removal. 

Extreme cleanliness must be exercised 

when handling these components. 

Remove the measuring shims.

Fluid container

Description and Operation).

NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid 

Discard the sealing washer. 

General Equipment:

NOTE: Make sure that a new component is 
installed. 

Torque: 

20 Nm 

5. Torque: 9 Nm 

6. Fill the engine with oil.
