Emergency Treatment 3-3 If the Car Is Overheated If the coolant thermometer indicates overheating, or the motor, controller or the battery are overheated, the power assembly or controller maybe overheated. Take measurements according to the following procedures: a. Drive the vehicle off the road, stop it and turn on the emergency hazard warning lights. Set the transmission to N, and apply the parking brake. Shut down air conditioning if it is running. b. If coolant or steam spilled out of the radiator or expansion tank, shut down the power assembly, then open the motor compartment until there is no steam coming out; If there is no spilled coolant or steam, keep the power assembly running and confirm the cooling fan is operating. If not, there may be something wrong with the fan. Turn off the power switch and have the fan repaired. Tips To avoid personal injury, please keep the motor compartment closed until there is no steam coming out. Spouting of steam or coolant means high pressure. c. Check whether there is obvious coolant leakage under the radiator, hose and the vehicle. Water drops produced by AC system in use are normal. Tips Keep hands and clothes away from the fan to avoid danger in case of sudden starting of the cooling fan. d. If there is coolant leakage, please shut down the power assembly at once and contact BYD authorized service station for help. e. If there is no obvious leakage, check the coolant level in the expansion tank. If there is no coolant in the expansion tank, refill it to the MAX scale line with the power assembly running.
Tips High temperature steam and fluid may spill out due to high pressure in system and result in serious burning injury. Therefore, do not take off the radiator cap when the power assembly and radiator are still hot. f. After the coolant temperature has dropped to the normal level, recheck the coolant level in the expansion tank. If it is lower than the MIN scale line, refill to the MAX scale line. A considerable decrease means that the system has leaked. Contact a BYD authorized service station and have it checked immediately. |
