Climate control system

• Air for the heating/cooling system is

drawn through the grille at the base of
the windshield. Care should be taken
that it not blocked by leaves, snow, ice
or other obstructions.

• To prevent fog from forming on the

inside of the windshield:

- Set the air intake control to the fresh

air position and the fan speed to the
desired position.

- Turn on the air conditioning system

and adjust the temperature control
to the desired temperature.

Air conditioning (A/C)

CAUTION

• The refrigerant system should only be

• The refrigerant system should be ser

viced in a well-ventilated place.

• The air conditioning evaporator (cool

ing coil) shall never be repaired or
replaced with one removed from a
used or salvaged vehicle and new
replacement MAC evaporators shall
be certified (and labeled) as meeting
SAE Standard J2842.

NOTICE

• When using the air conditioning sys

tem, monitor the temperature gauge
closely while driving up hills or in heavy
traffic when outside tempera

tures are

high. Air conditioning system operation
may cause engine over

heating.

Continue to use the blower fan but
turn off the air conditioning system if
the temperature gauge indi

engine overheating.

• When opening the windows in humid

weather, air conditioning may create
water droplets inside the vehicle.
Since excessive water droplets may
cause damage to electrical equip

ment, air conditioning should only be
used with the windows closed.

Air conditioning system opera

tion tips

• If the vehicle has been parked in

direct sunlight during hot weather,
open the windows for a short time to
let the hot air inside the vehicle
escape.

• To help reduce moisture inside of the

windows on rainy or humid days,
decrease the humidity inside the vehi

cle by operating the air conditioning
system.

Features of your vehicle

Climate control system

• During air conditioning system opera

tion, you may occasionally notice a
slight change in vehicle speed as the
air conditioning compressor cycles.
This is a normal characteristic of sys

tem operation.

• To ensure maximum system perfor

mance, the air conditioning system
should be ran for a few minutes each
month.

• When using the air conditioning sys

tem, you may notice clear water drip

ping (or even puddling) on the ground
under the passenger side of the vehi

cle. This is a normal characteristic of
system operation.

• Operating the air conditioning system

in the recirculated air position pro

vides maximum cooling; however,
continual operation in this mode may
cause the air inside the vehicle to
become stale.

• During cooling operation, you may

occasionally notice a misty air flow
because of rapid cooling and humid
air intake. This is a normal character

istic of system operation.

Climate control air filter

The climate control air filter installed
behind the glove box filters the dust or
other pollutants that come into the vehi

cle from the outside through the heating
and air conditioning system.

A: Outside air

B: Recirculated air

C: Climate control air filter

D: Blower

E: Evaporator core

F: Heater core
If dust or other pollutants accumulate in
the filter over time, air flow from the air
vents may decrease. This leads to mois

ture accumulating on the inside of the
windshield even when the outside (fresh)
air position is selected. Have the climate
control air filter replaced by an authorized
Kia dealer.

NOTICE

• Replace the filter according to the

Maintenance Schedule. If the vehicle
is being driven in severe conditions
such as dusty or rough roads, more
frequent air conditioner filter inspec

tions and changes are required.

• When the air flow rate suddenly

decreases, have the system checked
by an authorized Kia dealer.

Air conditioning refrigerant label

The air conditioning refrigerant label in
the vehicle may differ from the illustra

tion.

Each symbol and specification on the air
conditioning refrigerant label is repre

sented below:

1. Classification of refrigerant

The refrigerant label is located on the
underside of the hood.

Checking the amount of air con

ditioner refrigerant and compres

sor lubricant

When the amount of refrigerant is low,
the performance of the air conditioning
is reduced. Overfilling also has a nega

tive impact on the air conditioning sys

tem.

If abnormal operation occurs, have the
system inspected by an authorized Kia
dealer.

W ARNING

The oil and refrigerant in your vehicle's
air conditioning system are under very
high pressure. If proper service proce

dures are not followed an explosion may
result. To reduce the risk of SERIOUS
INJURY OR DEATH, the air
conditioning system in your vehicle
should only be serviced by trained and
certified Kia technicians.

Vehicles equipped with R-1234yf

Since the refrigerant is mildly flammable
and operated at high pressure, the air
conditioning system should only be ser

viced by trained and certified techni

cians.
It is important that the correct type and
amount of oil and refrigerant are used. All
refrigerants should be reclaimed with
proper equipment.

Venting refrigerants directly to the
atmosphere is harmful to individuals and
the environment.

Failure to heed these warnings can lead
to serious injuries.

Mode selection

The mode selection buttons control the
direction of the air flow through the ven

tilation system.

Air can be directed to the floor, dash

board outlets, or windshield. Five sym

bols are used to represent Face, Bi-
Level, Floor, Floor-Defrost and Defrost
air position.

Face-Level (B, D, F)

Air flow is directed toward the upper
body and face. Additionally, each outlet
can be controlled to direct the air dis

charged from the outlet.

Bi-Level (B, C, D, E, F)

Air flow is directed towards the face and
the floor.

Floor-Level (A, C, D, E, F)

Most of the air flow is directed to the
floor, with a small amount air being
directed to the windshield, side window
defrosters and side air vents.

Floor/Defrost-Level (A, C, D, E, F)

Most of the air flow is directed to the
floor and the windshield with a small
amount directed to the side window
defrosters and side air vents.

Defrost-Level (A, D)

Most of the air flow is directed to the

Manual climate control system

• Type A
The outlet vents can be opened or
closed separately using the thumbwheel.
To close the vent, rotate it downward to
the maximum position. You can adjust
the direction of air from these vents using
the vent control lever as shown.

• Type B
The outlet vents can be opened or
closed separately turning the knob right
or left. You can adjust the direction of air
from these vents by moving the knob to
any direction.

Temperature control

The temperature control knob allows you
to control the temperature of the air
flowing from the ventilation system.

To change the air temperature in the
passenger compartment, turn the knob
to the right for warm and hot air or to the
left for cooler air.

Controlling air intake

The air intake control is used to select the
outside (fresh) air position or recircu

lated

air position.

To change the air intake control position.

NOTICE

Prolonged operation of the heater in the
recirculated air position (without air con

ditioning selected) may cause fogging of
the windshield and side windows and
make the air in the passenger compart

ment stale.

Prolonged use of the air conditioning
with the recirculated air position selected
will result in excessively dry air in the
passenger compartment.

W ARNING

• Continued use of the climate control

system in the recirculated air position
may allow humidity to increase inside
the vehicle which may fog the glass
and obscure visibility.

• Do not sleep in a vehicle with the air

conditioning or heating system on. It
may cause serious harm or death due
to a drop in the oxygen level and/or
body temperature.

• Continuously using the climate control

system in the recirculated air position
can cause drowsiness or sleepiness,
and loss of vehicle control. Set the air
intake control to the outside (fresh) air
position as much as possible while
driving.

Controlling fan speed

The fan speed control knob allows you
to control the fan speed of the air flow

ing from the ventilation system.

The ignition switch or the ENGINE
START/STOP button must be in the
ON position for fan operation.

• To change the fan speed:
• Turn the knob to the right for higher

speed or left for lower speed.

To turn off the blowers:
• Turn the fan speed control knob to

the "0" position.

Air conditioning (A/C)

• Press the A/C button to turn the air

conditioning system on (indicator light
will illuminate).

• Press the button again to turn the air

conditioning system off.

NOTICE

• To turn the automatic operation off,

select any button or switch of the fol

Heating and air conditioning manually

The heating and cooling system can be controlled manually by pressing buttons
other than the AUTO button.

In this case, the system works sequentially according to the order of buttons selected.

1. Start the vehicle.

2. Set the mode to the desired position.

For improving the effectiveness of heating and cooling;

• Heating:

• Cooling:

3. Set the temperature control to the desired position.

4. Set the air intake control to the outside (fresh) air position.

5. Set the fan speed control to the desired speed.

If air conditioning is desired, turn the air conditioning system on.

Press the AUTO button in order to convert to fully automatic control of the system.

The mode selection button controls the

the following sequence:

Face-Level (B, D, F)

the knob freely to any directions.

Temperature control

The temperature will increase to the
maximum (HI) by rotating the knob in a
clockwise direction.

The temperature will decrease to the
minimum (Lo) by rotating the knob in a
counter clock wise direction.

When rotating the knob, the tempera

ture will increase or decrease by 1

Windshield defrosting and defogging

Windshield defrosting and
defogging

When the windshield is covered with
frost or moisture, the front view is
blurred. You should remove the frost
and moisture.

W ARNING

Windshield heating

Do not use the

during cooling operation in extremely
humid weather. The difference between
the temperature of the outside air and the
windshield could cause the outer surface
of the windshield to fog up, causing loss
of visibility. Set the mode

selection to the

• For maximum defrosting, set the tem

to the highest speed.

• If warm air to the floor is desired while

and air inlet in the cowl grill to improve

Windshield defrosting and defogging

The auto defogging system oper

ates when the heater or air condi

tioning is on.

When the Auto Defogging System oper

ates, the indicator will illuminate.

If high of humidity is detected in the
vehicle, the Auto Defogging System will
be enabled.

The following steps will be performed
automatically:

1. The A/C button will turn ON.
2. The air intake control will change to

Fresh mode under low outside tem

perature.

3. The mode will be changed to defrost

to direct airflow to the windshield.

4. The fan speed will be increased.
To cancel or reset the Auto Defogging
System

Press the front windshield defroster but

ton for 3 seconds when the ignition switch
or ENGINE START/STOP button is in
the ON position.

When the Auto Defogging System is
canceled, the defrost button indicator
will blink 3 times.

When the Auto Defogging System is
reset, the defrost button indicator will
blink 6 times.

NOTICE

• If you try to turn off the air condition

ing when the air conditioning is turned
on by the Auto defogging sys

tem,

the indicator will blink 3 times. The air
conditioning will not be turned off.

• To maintain the efficiency of the Auto

Defogging System, do not select
Recirculation mode while the system
is operating.

• When the Auto Defogging System is

operating, the fan speed adjustment
knob, the temperature adjustment
knob, and the air intake control button
are all disabled.

NOTICE

Do not remove the sensor cover located
on the upper end of the driver side wind

shield glass.

Damage to system parts could occur
and may not be covered by your war

ranty.

Sunroof inside air recirculation

The outside (fresh) air position is auto

matically selected, when the sunroof is
opened.When you select the recirculated
air position, the system maintains the
recirculated air position for 3 minutes and
then automatically converts to the outside
(fresh) air position.When the sunroof is
closed, the air intake position will return
to the position that was selected.

Automatic Air Ventilation

if you maintain the Recirculation mode
for 30 minutes or more at low tempera

ture when operating the heater and air
conditioner for the ventilation, it auto

matically changes to Fresh mode.

Automatic Air Ventilation control
procedure

When set up or release the automatic air
ventilation function, select the Mode
Selection button at heater or air condi

tioner is on. And press the Air Intake
Control button for 5 times or more within 3
seconds together with the Air condi

tioning button. The Recirculation mode
indicator will blink 3 times at 0.5 second
intervals and air direction, air volume,
Recirculation/Fresh mode, and air condi

tioner will be automatically controlled.

When the automatic ventilation function is
set, the Recirculation mode indicator will
blink 6 times at 0.25 seconds inter

vals.

Air direction, volume, Recirculation/ Fresh
mode, and air conditioner will be
automatically controlled. Auto dehumid

Activate upon Washer Fluid Use

To prevent odor from entering inside the
vehicle, the ventilation system changes to
Recirculated Air Mode when the wind

shield washer fluid is sprayed. To pre

vent windshield fogging low outside
temperatures, the system continues to
use outside air mode.

1. Place the ignition switch or the

when driving through a tunnel or in foul
odor area, this function automatically

Defroster

The vehicle is equipped with a defroster
for removing frost or fog from the rear
window.

CAUTION

Conductors
To prevent damage to the conductors
bonded to the inside surface of the rear
window, never use sharp instruments or
window cleaners containing abrasives to
clean the rear window.

If you want to defrost or defog the front
windshield, refer to "Windshield defrost

ing and defogging" on page 4-107.

Operating rear window defroster

The defroster heats the window to
remove frost, fog and thin ice from the
rear window, while the engine is on.

If there is heavy accumulation of snow
on the rear window, stop driving, and
brush it off before operating the rear
defroster.

Type A/Type B

To activate the rear window defroster:

The rear window defroster may turn off

facing out. To close the sunglass holder,

holder in the event of a sudden stop

than 1.5 seconds with the seat warmer
operating, the seat warmer will turn
OFF.

Power outlet

The power outlet is designed to provide
power for mobile phones or other devices
designed to operate with vehicle
electrical systems.

The devices should draw less than 15
amps with the vehicle ON.

• Use the power outlet only when the

vehicle is ON and remove the acces

sory plug after use. Using the acces

sory plug for prolonged periods of
time with the vehicle off could cause
the battery to discharge.

• Only use 12 V electric accessories

which are less than 15 A in electric

• Adjust the air-conditioner or heater to

the lowest level when using the power
outlet.

• Close the cover when not in use.
• Some electronic devices can cause

electronic interference when plugged

button is ON. To start wireless charging,
place the smart phone equipped with

For best wireless charging results, place
the smart phone on the center of the
charging pad.

The wireless charging system is
designed for one smart phone equipped
with QI only. Please refer to the smart

W ARNING

If any metallic object such as coins is
located between the wireless charging
system and the smart phone, charging
may be disrupted. Also, the metallic
object may heat up.

Wireless smart phone charging

1. Remove any object on the smart

phone charging pad including the
smart key. If there is any object on the
pad other than a smart phone, the
wireless charging function may not
operate properly.

2. Place the smart phone on the center

of the wireless charging pad.

3. The indicator light will change to

orange when the wireless charging
begins. After charging is complete,
the orange light will change to green.

4. You can choose to turn the wireless

charging function to either ON or OFF
by selecting the Ultimate Stock Mani

fold (USM) on the instrument cluster.
(Please refer to "Instrument cluster"
on page 4-52 for details).

If wireless charging does not work, gen

function) after the 'Good bye' function on
the instrument cluster ends.

NOTICE

For some manufacturers' smart phones,
the system may not warn you even
though the smart phone is left on the
wireless charging unit. This is due to the
characteristic of the smart phone and not
a malfunction of the wireless charging
system.

CAUTION

• When the interior temperature of the

wireless charging system rises above
a set temperature, the wireless
charging will cease to function. After
the interior temperature drops below
the threshold, the wireless charging
function will resume.

• If there is any metallic object between

the smart phone and the wireless
charging pad, immediately remove the
smart phone. Remove the metallic
object after it has cooled down.

• The wireless charging system may not

function properly when there is a
heavy accessory cover on the smart
phone.

• Wireless charging will stop when

using the wireless smart key search
function to prevent radio wave disrup

tion.

• Wireless charging will stop when the

smart key is removed from the vehicle
with the ignition in ON.

• Wireless charging will stop when any

of the doors is opened (applicable for
vehicles equipped with smart keys).

• Wireless charging will stop when the

vehicle is turned OFF.

• Wireless charging will stop when the

smart phone is not in complete con

tact with the wireless charging pad.

• Items equipped with magnetic com

ponents such as a credit card, tele

phone card, bankbook, transportation
ticket, etc. may be damaged during
wireless charging.

• Place the smart phone on the center

of the charge pad for best results. The
smart phone may not charge when
placed near the rim of the charging
pad. When the smart phone is
charged, it may heat up excessively.

• For smart-phones without built in

wireless charging system, an appro

priate accessory must be used.

• Smart phones of some manufacturers

may display messages on weak cur

rent. This is due to the characteristic of
the smart-phone and is not a mal

function of the wireless charging sys

tem.

• The indicator light of some manufac

turers' smart phones may still be yel

low after the smart phone is fully
charged. This is due to the character

istic of the smart-phone and not a
malfunction of the wireless charging
system.

• When any smart phone without a

wireless charging function or a metal

lic object is placed on the charging
pad, a noise may sound. This sound is
due to the vehicle discerning compati

How vehicle radio works

FM reception

AM and FM radio signals are broadcast
from transmitter towers located around
your city. They are intercepted by the
radio antenna on your vehicle. This sig

nal is then processed by the radio and
sent to your vehicle speakers.

However, in some cases, the signal com

ing to your vehicle may not be strong and
clear.

This can be due to several factors, such
as the distance from the radio station,
closeness of other strong radio stations
or the presence of buildings, bridges or
other large obstructions in the area.

AM reception

AM broadcasts can be received at
greater distances than FM broadcasts.
This is because AM radio waves are
transmitted at low frequencies. These
long distance, low frequency radio waves
can follow the curvature of the earth
rather than traveling straight. In addition,
they curve around obstructions resulting
in better signal coverage.

FM radio station

FM broadcasts are transmitted at high
frequencies and do not bend to follow
the earth's surface. Because of this, FM
broadcasts generally begin to fade
within short distances from the station.
FM signals are easily affected by build

ings, mountains, and obstructions. This
