REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 

2. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER  

3. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (See REMOVAL )  

4. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (See REPLACEMENT (1GR-FE), REPLACEMENT (2UZ-FE) and 

REPLACEMENT (3UR-FE) )  

5. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY 

a. Remove the front propeller shaft (seeREMOVAL ).  

6. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY 

a. Remove the propeller shaft (see REMOVAL ).  

7. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 

a. for Regular Cab Standard Deck: 

Remove the front exhaust pipe (see REMOVAL (1GR-FE), REMOVAL (2UZ-FE) and 
REMOVAL (3UR-FE) ). 

b. except Regular Cab Standard Deck: 

Remove the front exhaust pipe (see REMOVAL (1GR-FE),REMOVAL (2UZ-FE) and 
REMOVAL (3UR-FE) ). 

8. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY 

a. Remove the nut and clip, and disconnect the shift control cable.

9. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY 

a. Remove the starter (see REMOVAL (1GR-FE), REMOVAL (2UZ-FE) and REMOVAL (3UR-

FE) ).  

10. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT 

NOTE:

Some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (see 
INITIALIZATION ).

a. Remove the flywheel housing side cover.

b. Turn the crankshaft to gain access to the 6 bolts and remove the bolts while holding the crankshaft 

pulley setting bolt with a wrench.

11. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY 

a. Support the transmission with a transmission jack. Lift the transmission slightly from the 

crossmember.
