REMOVAL

(1) Disconnect negative battery cable.
(2) Remove air inlet tube for the air cleaner box.
(3) Disconnect quick connect hose from the top of

the air pump.

(4) Raise vehicle and support.
(5) Remove 3 mounting nuts (Fig. 2).

(6) Unlock electrical connector (Fig. 3).

(7) Unclip

bracket (Fig. 4).

(8) Press tab and disconnect electrical connector

(Fig. 5).

(9) Disconnect quick connect hose from inlet of the

air pump.

(10) Remove air pump from vehicle (Fig. 6).

INSTALLATION

(1) Install air pump to vehicle (Fig. 6).
(2) Connect quick connect hose to inlet of air

pump.

(3) Connect electrical connector (Fig. 5).
(4) Clip electrical connector to mounting bracket

(Fig. 4).

(5) Install 3 mounting nuts (Fig. 2) and tighten.
(6) Lower vehicle.
(7) Connect quick connect hose to the top of air

pump.

(8) Install air inlet tube for the air cleaner box.
(9) Connect negative battery cable.

AIR PUMP FILTER

DESCRIPTION

The filter is part of the Mass Air Flow Sensor

(MAF).

ONE WAY CHECK VALVE

DESCRIPTION

The check valve is located on the exhaust manifold.

OPERATION

The one-way check valve has a one-way diaphragm

which prevents hot exhaust gases from backing up
into the air injection hose and air injection pump.
The check valve will protect the system if the air

injection pump, an air hose ruptures or exhaust sys-
tem pressure becomes abnormally high.

REMOVAL

Location of One Way Check Valve and connector

hose (Fig. 7).

(1) Squeeze quick connector (Fig. 8) on the con-

necting tube and pull from check valve.

(2) Remove the 2 check valve retaining screws.
(3) Remove check valve from exhaust manifold.

INSTALLATION

(1) Clean the check valve sealing surface on the

exhaust manifold.

(2) Install One Way Check Valve with NEW gas-

ket.

(3) Torque 2 retaining screws to 12 Nm (105 in

lbs).

(4) Push connecting tube into check valve.

CONNECTING TUBE

REMOVAL

(1) Remove air inlet duct to air cleaner box (Fig.

9).

(2) Squeeze the quick connect on the tube to

release it (Fig. 10).

(3) Disconnect connector tube at air pump (Fig. 11)

and one way check valve (Fig. 12).

(4) Remove connector tube, note routing of tube.

INSTALLATION

(1) Route tube.
(2) Connect to one way check valve (Fig. 12) and

tube to air pump (Fig. 11).

(3) Install air inlet duct to air cleaner box (Fig. 9).
