MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR

DESCRIPTION

The Mass Air Flow Sensor(MAF) is mounted on the

air pump bracket. There is a filter assembly mounted
to the MAF.

OPERATION

Airflow is measured by the MAF sensor. A voltage

will be produced via the MAF sensor when air is
passed through. Changes in air flow and air density
cause the temperature of the ceramic element to
fluxuate. The ceramic element changes resistance
respectively to changes in temperature. This voltage

correlates to airflow. The change in resistance varies
the signal voltage output to the PCM.

REMOVAL

(1) Disconnect negative battery cable.
(2) Remove the air pump assembly, (Refer to 25 -

EMISSIONS CONTROL/AIR INJECTION/PUMP -
REMOVAL).

(3) Remove 2 bracket mounting bolts (Fig. 13).

(4) Remove the bracket assembly (Fig. 14).

(5) Disconnect the electrical connector to MAF.

(6) Twist the MAF sideways and remove from

bracket (Fig. 16).

(7) Remove the rubber mounting.

INSTALLATION

(1) Install the rubber mounting to MAF sensor.
(2) Twist the MAF sideways and install to bracket

(Fig. 17).

(3) Connect the electrical connector to MAF.

(4) Install the bracket assembly (Fig. 19).

(5) Install 2 bracket mounting bolts (Fig. 20).
(6) Install the air pump assembly, (Refer to 25 -

EMISSIONS CONTROL/AIR INJECTION/PUMP -
INSTALLATION)

(7) Connect negative battery cable.
