(1) Install the 2 bolts with washers into the 2 bolt holes on the

steering pad.

NOTICE:

Tighten the bolts by hand until they become difficult to turn.
Do not tighten the bolts excessively.

(2) Connect SST to the steering pad at the locations indicated by

the arrows in the illustration.

(3) Wind 3 wire harnesses at least 2 times each around the bolts

CAUTION:

Tightly wind the wire harnesses around the bolts so that there is
no slack.
Make sure that the wire harnesses are tight. If there is slack in
the wire harnesses, the steering pad may become loose due to
the shock when the airbag is deployed.

disc wheel through the hub nut holes. Position the SST

connector so that it hangs downward through the hub hole of

the disc wheel.

CAUTION:

Make sure that the wire harnesses are tight. If there is slack in
the wire harnesses, the steering pad may break loose when the
airbag is deployed.
Always tie down the steering pad with the airbag deployment
side facing upward.

NOTICE:

The tire and disc wheel may be damaged by the airbag

deployment, so use an unneeded tire and disc wheel.

(d) Install SST.

CAUTION:

Place the disc wheel on level ground.

(1) Connect the SST connector.

NOTICE:

(2) Move SST at least 10 m (32.8 ft.) away from the steering pad

tied down to the disc wheel.

(1) Cover the steering pad with a cardboard box.

(2) Place weights on the cardboard box in 4 places totaling at

least 190 N (19 kg, 42.7 lb).

NOTICE:

If a cardboard box smaller than the specified size is used, it may
be broken by the shock from the airbag deployment.

(f) Cover the steering pad (using tires).

(1) Place at least 3 tires without disc wheels onto the disc wheel and tire to which the steering pad is tied.

(2) Place a disc wheel and tire on top.

CAUTION:

Do not use tires with disc wheels except for on the top and bottom.

NOTICE:

The tires and disc wheel may be damaged by the airbag deployment, so use unneeded tires and disc
wheels.
Do not place the SST connector under the tire because it could be damaged.

(3) Tie the tires together with the 2 wires.

CAUTION:

Make sure that the wires are tight. Looseness in the wires results

in the tires breaking loose when the airbag is deployed.

(g) Deploy the airbag.
