Removal

1

Loosen but do not remove the nut 66 for the 
end yoke using splined socket 98 765.

Remove the bolts for the front cover and lift 
off the cover 9. Use lifting tool 99 167.

Remove the sun wheel 30 and thrust 
washers 33 from the planet wheel carrier 23.

Lay the front cover on two parallel blocks in 
a press with a wooden board centrally 
placed under the input shaft.

Remove the nut. Mark the positions of the 
end yoke and shaft end to make assembly 
easier.

Press out the shaft 14 with drift 98 575.

Take out the seal 18, support ring 19 and 
bearing 15.

Drive the inner bearing ring away from the 
shaft and the outer bearing rings from the 
cover with a drift. Keep the spacing ring 16 
and shims 17 to use later for the basic 
adjustment of the bearings.

Compress the retaining ring 21 on the input 
shaft with retaining ring pliers 587 585 and 
drive off the ring gear 22.

Fitting

Press the outer bearing rings 15 into the 
front cover 9 using drift 98 610 and shank 
98 450.

Fit the retaining ring 21 into the groove on 
the input shaft 14. Place the shaft onto the 
ring gear 22. Compress the retaining ring 
and drive down the input shaft into the inner 
gear far enough for the retaining ring to 
engage the groove in the ring gear.

Place the input shaft onto 99 147 and press 
on the rear bearing inner ring using drift 
87 932. Place the spacing ring 16 between 
the bearing ring and the drift.

Fit the shims 17 that were fitted originally.

Place the front cover on the shaft. Fit the 
front bearing and press it down using drift 
87 932 while rotating the cover. Place the 
support ring 19 between the bearing ring 
and the drift.

Check the rolling resistance in the bearings.

Use drift 87 932 and support drift 98 332 as 
a press tools and press with 70-80 kN.

Measure the rolling resistance with a 
dynamometer. The rolling resistance must 
be 0.4-6.0 N measured at a distance of 
250 mm from the centre. Adjust if necessary 
by changing spacing ring or shims.

Spacing rings are available in the following 
lengths: 5.70, 5.72, 5.74, 5.76 and 5.78 mm. 
Shims are available in the following 
thickness: 0.30, 0.40 and 0.50 mm.

Fit the dust cover. Renew the dust cover if it 
is damaged.

IMPORTANT! The new type of seal for the end 
yoke cannot be reused once they have been 
removed. The seals must be renewed.

Press the seal in place on the end yoke with 
drift 99 377. Make sure the seal is turned the 
right way round, see illustration. The seal 
must not be knocked into position.
