NOTE:

• Replacement on vehicle may cause damage to transfer cover, and may cause a transfer oil leak.

• If transfer cover oil seal requires replacement, remove the transfer assembly from the vehicle before replac-

ing transfer cover oil seal. Refer to 

DLN-95, "Disassembly"

NOTE:

When removing components such as hoses, tubes/lines, etc., cap or plug openings to prevent fluid from spill-

ing.

REMOVAL

1. Drain the transfer oil. Refer to 

DLN-70, "Draining"

.

2. Remove exhaust manifold (bank 1). Refer to 

EM-33, "Removal and Installation (bank 1)"

.

CAUTION:

Handle carefully to avoid any shock to three way catalyst.

3. Support transaxle with a suitable jack.
4. Remove the steering gear and linkage. Refer to 

ST-48, "Removal and Installation - 2WD"

 (2WD) or 

ST-49,

"Removal and Installation - 4WD"

 (4WD).

5. Remove rear gusset and transfer gusset.
6. Remove transaxle assembly to transfer assembly bolts.

CAUTION:

Be careful not to damage gear ring oil seal inside of CVT.

7. Remove transfer assembly from the vehicle.

CAUTION:

• Do not damage air breather hose.

TRANSFER ASSEMBLY

• After removing transfer from transaxle, always replace differential side oil seal of the transaxle

side with new one. Refer to 

TM-204, "Removal and Installation"

.

INSTALLATION

Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

• When installing the transfer to the transaxle, install the bolts follow-

ing the standard below.

CAUTION:

• When installing transfer to transaxle, be careful not to dam-

age oil seal of transaxle.

• Do not reuse differential side oil seal.

• Check transfer oil level and check for transfer oil leaks after instal-

lation. Refer to 

DLN-70, "Refilling"
