Specific design characteristics give
it a higher center of gravity than
ordinary passenger cars. This vehi-
cle design feature causes this type
of vehicle to be more likely to roll-
over. And, utility vehicles have a sig-
nificantly higher rollover rate than
other types of vehicles.



An advantage of the higher ground
clearance is a better view of the
road allowing you to anticipate
problems.



It is not designed for cornering at
the same speeds as ordinary pas-
senger cars any more than
low-slung sports cars are designed
to perform satisfactorily under
off-road conditions. Therefore,
sharp turns at excessive speeds may
cause the vehicle to rollover.

Your vehicle is not designed to be
driven off-road. However, in the event
that off-road driving cannot be
avoided, please observe the following
precautions to help avoid the areas
prohibited to vehicles.



Drive your vehicle only in areas
where off-road vehicles are permit-
ted to travel.



Respect private property. Get
owner’s permission before entering
private property.

Utility vehicle precautions

This vehicle belongs to the utility
vehicle class, which has higher
ground clearance and narrower
tread in relation to the height of its
center of gravity.

In a rollover crash, an unbelted person

is significantly more likely to die than a

person wearing a seat belt. Therefore,

the driver and all passengers should

always fasten their seat belts.

●

Avoid sharp turns or abrupt maneu-

vers, if at all possible.

Failure to operate this vehicle correctly

may result in loss of control or vehicle

rollover causing death or serious

injury.

●

Loading cargo on the roof luggage

carrier will make the center of the

vehicle gravity higher. Avoid high

speeds, sudden starts, sharp turns,

sudden braking or abrupt maneuvers,

otherwise it may result in loss of con-

trol or vehicle rollover due to failure to

operate this vehicle correctly.

●

Always slow down in gusty crosswinds.

Because of its profile and higher cen-

ter of gravity, your vehicle is more sen-

sitive to side winds than an ordinary

passenger car. Slowing down will allow

you to have better control.

●

Do not drive horizontally across steep

slopes. Driving straight up or straight

down is preferred. Your vehicle (or any

similar off-road vehicle) can tip over

sideways much more easily than for-

ward or backward.

Off-road driving precautions

Always observe the following precau-

tions to minimize the risk of death, seri-

ous injury or damage to your vehicle:

●

Drive carefully when off the road. Do

not take unnecessary risks by driving in

dangerous places.

●

Do not grip the steering wheel spokes

when driving off-road. A bad bump

could jerk the wheel and injure your

hands. Keep both hands and especially

your thumbs on the outside of the rim.

●

Always check your brakes for effec-

tiveness immediately after driving in

sand, mud, water or snow.

●

After driving through tall grass, mud,

rock, sand, rivers, etc., check that there

is no grass, bush, paper, rags, stone,

sand, etc. adhering or trapped on the

underbody. Clear off any such matter

from the underbody. If the vehicle is

used with these materials trapped or

adhering to the underbody, a break-

down or fire could occur.

●

When driving off-road or in rugged

terrain, do not drive at excessive

speeds, jump, make sharp turns, strike

objects, etc. This may cause loss of

control or vehicle rollover causing

death or serious injury. You are also

risking expensive damage to your

vehicle’s suspension and chassis.

To prevent water damage

Take all necessary safety measures to

ensure that water damage to the hybrid

battery (traction battery), hybrid system

or other components does not occur.

●

Water entering the engine compart-

ment may cause severe damage to the

hybrid system. Water entering the inte-

rior may cause the hybrid battery

(traction battery) stowed under the

rear seats to short circuit.

●

Water entering the transmission and

rear electric motor (traction motor)

will cause deterioration in transmission

quality. The malfunction indicator may

come on, and the vehicle may not be

drivable.

●

Water can wash the grease from wheel

bearings, causing rusting and prema-

ture failure, and may also enter the

transmission case, reducing the gear

oil’s lubricating qualities.

When you drive through water

If driving through water, such as when

crossing shallow streams, first check the

depth of the water and the bottom of the

riverbed for firmness. Drive slowly and

avoid deep water.

Inspection after off-road driving

●

Sand and mud that has accumulated

around brake discs may affect braking

efficiency and may damage brake sys-

tem components.

●

Always perform a maintenance

inspection after each day of off-road

driving that has taken you through

rough terrain, sand, mud, or water. For

scheduled maintenance information,

When the front passenger’s side tempera-
ture adjustment switch is operated, the
indicator on the “Sync” switch will turn off
and the temperature setting for the front
passenger’s side will be able to be
adjusted.
When the rear seats side temperature
adjustment switch is operated, the indica-
tor on the “Sync” switch will turn off and the
temperature setting for the rear seats side
will be able to be adjusted.
If the “A/C” indicator is turned off, the sys-
tem will blow ambient temperature air or
heated air.
When the front passenger’s side and the
rear seats side temperature adjustment
switch is operated, adjust the temperature
for the driver, front passenger and rear
seats separately. (“3-ZONE” mode)

■

Setting the fan speed

To increase the fan speed, select the
“+” fan speed adjustment switch or
slide the icon of the fan speed adjust-
ment switch right. To decrease the fan
speed, select the “-” fan speed adjust-
ment switch or slide the icon of the fan
speed adjustment switch left.

Select the “Off” switch to turn the fan off.
The fan can also be stopped by touching
and holding the “-” fan speed adjustment
switch or sliding the icon of the fan speed
adjustment switch to the leftmost position
and holding it.

Changing the air flow mode

Select the airflow mode control switch.

The airflow mode changes each time the
switch is selected.

The air outlets and air volume changes
according to the selected air flow mode.

When the outside temperature exceeds

75°F (24°C) and the air conditioning

system is on

●

In order to reduce the air conditioning

power consumption, the air conditioning

system may switch to recirculated air

mode automatically. This may also

reduce fuel consumption.

●

Recirculated air mode is selected as a

default mode when the power switch is

turned to ON.

●

It is possible to switch to outside air mode

at any time by pressing the outside/recir-

culated air mode switch.

■

Front seat concentrated airflow
mode (S-Flow)

When S-Flow mode is enabled, air flow
to the rear seats will be stopped for
increased fuel efficiency. If S-Flow
mode is disabled manually, it will be
automatically enabled when the power
switch is turned to ON after being off
for a period of time.
Only when S-Flow mode is enabled
automatically, it will be automatically
disabled when a rear door is opened
and closed.

The S-Flow switch is

Manually turning front seat concen-
trated airflow mode on/off

In front seat concentrated airflow
mode, directing airflow to the front
seats only and to all seats can be

switched via switch operation. When
the mode has been switched manually,
automatic airflow control stops operat-
ing.

Operation of automatic airflow control

●

In order to maintain a comfortable inte-

rior, airflow may be directed to seats

without passengers immediately after the

hybrid system is started and at other

times depending on the outside tempera-

ture.

●

After the hybrid system is started, if pas-

sengers move around inside or enter/exit

the vehicle, the system cannot accurately

detect the presence of passengers and

automatic airflow control will not oper-

ate.

●

If a rear seat passenger is on board

before the power switch is turned to ON,

the system will determine that there are

no passengers in the rear seats.

The presence of a rear seat passenger is
determined by opening and closing of a
rear door.
Once the system determines the presence
of a rear seat passenger, it will not deter-
mine otherwise during that trip.

●

If it is very hot or very cold and the system

determines that air conditioning to the

whole vehicle is required, air flow will be

directed to the rear seats, regardless of

whether S-Flow mode is enabled/dis-

abled.

■

To return to automatic airflow control

With the indicator off, turn the power

switch off.

After 60 minutes or more elapse, turn

the power switch to ON.

Eco air conditioning mode

The air conditioning is controlled with
low fuel consumption prioritized such
as reducing fan speed, etc.

Select the option screen switch.

In Eco drive mode, the air condition-
ing system is controlled as follows to
prioritize fuel efficiency. To improve
air conditioning performance, turn
off Eco air conditioning mode.

• Engine speed and compressor opera-

tion controlled to restrict heating/cool-
ing capacity.

• Fan speed restricted when automatic

mode is selected.



When the driving mode is set to Eco
driving mode, the Eco air condition-
ing mode will be turned on automat-
ically. Even in this case, the Eco air
conditioning mode can be turned
off by selecting the “Eco heat/cool”.

■

Warming the interior quickly (Max
heat)

When “MAX heat” is turned on, in
order to warm the interior quickly, the

settings ofthe air conditioning system
will be changed immediately.

Defogging the windshield

Defoggers are used to defog the wind-
shield and front side windows.
Press the windshield defogger switch.

The dehumidification function will operate
and the air flow will increase.
Set the outside/recirculated air mode but-
ton to outside air mode if the recirculated
air mode is used. (It may switch automati-
cally.)
To defog the windshield and the side win-

dows early, turn the air flow and tempera-
ture up.
To return to the previous mode, press the
windshield defogger switch again when the
windshield is defogged.

■

Defogging the rear window and
outside rear view mirrors

Defoggers are used to defog the rear
window, and to remove raindrops, dew
and frost from the outside rear view
mirrors.
Press the rear window and outside rear
view mirror defoggers switch.

The rear window defogger and outside
rear view mirror defoggers will operate
and defog the rear window and outside
rear view mirrors.
The defoggers will automatically turn off
after a period of time.

Windshield wiper de-icer (if
equipped)

Use the windshield wiper de-icer to
help prevent the windshield wiper
blades from freezing to the windshield.

When driving on dusty roads

Close all windows. If dust thrown up by the

vehicle is still drawn into the vehicle after

closing the windows, it is recommended

that the air intake mode be set to outside air

mode and the fan speed to any setting

except off.

■

When the outside temperature is low

The dehumidification function may not

operate even when “A/C” is selected.

■

Ventilation and air conditioning odors

●

To let fresh air in, set the air conditioning

system to the outside air mode.

●

During use, various odors from inside and

outside the vehicle may enter into and

accumulate in the air conditioning sys-

tem. This may then cause odor to be

emitted from the vents.

●

To reduce potential odors from occur-

ring:

• It is recommended that the air condition-

ing system be set to outside air mode

prior to turning the vehicle off.

• The start timing of the blower may be

delayed for a short period of time imme-

diately after the air conditioning system is

started in automatic mode.

●

When parking, the system automatically

switches to outside air mode to encour-

age better air circulation throughout the

vehicle, helping to reduce odors that

occur when starting the vehicle.

■

“MAX heat”

●

The “MAX heat” switch cannot be used

to turn the setting off.

●

After the “MAX heat” switch has been

operated, the temperature setting can be

adjusted using the temperature control

switches of the air conditioning system.

●

When “Climate concierge” is on, if the

“AUTO” switch is turned on, the seat

heaters and seat ventilators of the front
seats, and the heated steering wheel

will

be operated automatically according to

the temperature setting.

●

Each function can also be adjusted to the

desired setting.

■

“MAX cool”

●

The “MAX cool” switch cannot be used

to turn the setting off.

●

After the “MAX cool” switch has been

operated, the temperature setting can be

adjusted using the temperature control

switches of the air conditioning system.

●

When “Climate concierge” is on, if the

“AUTO” switch is turned on, the seat

heaters and seat ventilators of the front
seats, and the heated steering wheel

will

be operated automatically according to

the temperature setting.

●

Each function can also be adjusted to the

desired setting.

: If equipped

■

Fogging up of the windows

The windows will easily fog up when the

humidity in the vehicle is high. Selecting

“A/C” on will dehumidify the air from the

outlets and defog the windshield effectively.

●

If you turn “A/C” off, the windows may fog

up more easily.

●

The windows may fog up if the recircu-

lated air mode is used.

■

Air conditioning system refrigerant

●

A label regarding the refrigerant of the

air conditioning system is attached to the

hood at the location shown in the follow-

ing illustration.

●

Do not use the windshield defogger in

extremely humid areas when the air

perature. The difference between the

temperature of the outside air and that

of the windshield can cause the outer

surface of the windshield to fog up,

blocking your vision.

●

Do not place anything on the instru-

ment panel which may cover the air

outlets. Otherwise, air flow may be

obstructed, preventing the windshield

defoggers from defogging.

When the outside rear view mirror

defoggers are operating

Do not touch the surface of the outside

rear view mirrors when the rear windowd

efogger and outside rear view mirror

defoggers are operating, as the surface

of the mirrors will become extremely hot

and may cause burns.

■

To prevent the windshield from fog-

ging up

Do not touch the lower part of the wind-

shield or parts along the front pillars

when the windshield wiper de-icer is on,

as they will be hot and may cause burns.

NOTICE

■

To prevent 12-volt battery discharge

Do not leave the air conditioning system

on longer than necessary when the

hybrid system is off.

■

When repairing/replacing parts of

the air conditioning system

Have repair/replacement performed by

your Lexus dealer.

When a part of the air conditioning sys-

tem, such as the evaporator, is to be

replaced, it must be replaced with a new

one.

The lights automatically turn on/off accord-

ing to the power switch mode, the presence

of the electronic key, whether the doors are

locked/unlocked, and whether the doors

are opened/closed.

To prevent the 12-volt battery from

being discharged

If the interior lights remain on when the

power switch is turned off, the lights will go

off automatically after 20 minutes.

■

Automatic illumination of the interior

lights

If any of the SRS airbags deploy (inflate) or

in the event of a strong rear impact, the inte-

rior lights will turn on automatically.
The interior lights will turn off automatically

after approximately 20 minutes.
The interior lights can be turned off manu-

ally. However, in order to help prevent fur-

ther collisions, it is recommended that they

be left on until safety can be ensured.
(The interior lights may not turn on auto-

matically depending on the force of the

impact and conditions of the collision.)

Cup holder unit of the second seats can be

removed.
While lifting the tab, push up the front edge

of the cup holder unit then pull it forward.
After removing the cup holder unit, store it

in the exclusive bag attached.

Changing the position of the cup holder

Each of the first-row cup holders and the

second seat-row cup holders can be

removed and installed.
Removed cup holders can be installed to

the third-row cup holder unit. Remaining

first-row/second row cup holder(s) can be

removed also or slid longitudinally to make

an open tray or trays.
To remove a cup holder, press the lock

release button A.

Tablet holders

Tablets can be stored in the following

places:
Depending on the situations, such as the
size or shape of a smartphone, it may not

be stored.
