TRANSMISSION 

ASSEMBLE. 

Fitting  reverse  idler 

shaft 

and gear. 

Position  t h e   reverse  idler  gear  and  thrust 

washer  in  t h e   casing  with  the  thrust  washer 

and  the chamfer o n  the thrust  washer,  towards 

the  gear. 

2. 

Insert  the 

idler 

shaft  into  the  casing  and 

through  into  the 

idler 

gear and  washer.  Ensure 

that  the  roil  pin  in  the  shaft  lines-up  with  t h e  
cut-out  in  the casting,  then  drive  the shaft fully 
home.

Coat  the  threads 

of 

the  reverse  lever 

pivot 

bolt  with  Loctite  270  and  fit 

to 

the  casing  and 

tighten  t o  the  correct torque.

Fit 

the spacer next 

to 

the  casing. 

5. 

Fit  the  lever  t o   t h e   pivot  whilst  ensuring  that 

t h e   slipper  locates  in  t h e   reverse  idler  gear 
groove. 

Fitting mainshaft 

and 

input  shaft.

Fit  the  input  shaft 

to 

t h e   mainshaft  assembly 

ensuring  that  the  baulk  ring  engages  correctly 
into the 

synchromesh  hub. 

Lower  t h e   above  assembly  into  the  gear  case 
noting  that  the snap  ring 

on 

the  front  and  rear 

bearings  locate  against  a  shoulder  in  the 
casing.

Hold 

the  layshaft  above  the  mainshaft

Fit  the  retainer  plate 

to 

the  gearbox  and 

secure t h e  t o p  

of 

the  plate  with  t h e  

two 

bolts 

and  spring washers.

and  bearing  fit)  t o  the 

socket  headed  screw  threads  and  secure  t h e  
lower end 

of 

the  retaining  plate. 

assembly  and  engage  the

sets 

of 

gears 

into  mesh  and 

roll 

the  layshaft into  position  in 

t h e  

case. 

Check  that  the  rear  bearing  locates 

against 

the 

shoulder in  t h e  case. 

2. 

Wipe 

clean  the  mating  faces 

of 

both  cases and 

apply  Loctite  instant  Casket  in  accordance  with 
t h e  manufacturers  instructions. 

3. 

Lower  the  empty  case  into  position  over  the 

gears  locating  o n  t h e  dowels. 

4. 

Loosely  secure  t h e   cases  with  the  seven  bolts 

and  tighten  evenly  t o  the  correct  torque  22  t o

Clean  away  any 

surplus sealant. 

5. 

Refit  t h e   stand  t o   the  gearbox  and  secure  in 

t h e  vice.

Fitting front

Fit 

t h e   original  shim  and  spacer t o  the  layshaft 

front  bearing. 
Fit  a  new  joint  washer  t o   the  cover  and 
lubricate  the 

seal lip. 

Taking  care  not  t o  damage  the seal  lip, 

the 

cover  t o   the  gearbox  locating  it  over  the 
dowels.  Secure  with  the  seven  bolts  and

spring  washers  and  tighten  evenly 

to 

the

Fit  the  fifth gear  t o  the  layshaft  with  the  large 
boss  t o  t h e  rear.

facilitate  t h e   next  instruction, 

lock 

t h e  

gearbox  by  engaging first  and fourth  gears.

Fit  a  new fifth gear retaining  nut  and tighten  t o  

the  correct  torque.

this  stage.

Disengage  t h e  first  and fourth  gears.

between  the  washer  and  t h e   sleeve.

necessary  exchange  t h e   washer 

for

Fit  t h e   thrust  washer,  grooves  outwards, 

towards fifth  gear. 

2.  Lubricate  and  fit  the  needle  roller  bearing  t o  

t h e  mainshaft.

Fit  the spacer and  fifth  gear.

Remove  the  snap  ring,  selective  washer  and 

sleeve.

Wind  protective  t a p e   round  the  mainshaft 
splines  and  fit  the 

ring  seal  against  the 

synchromesh  hub retaining  plate.

Fit  the  fifth  gear  synchromesh  c o n e   and  hub 

assembly. 

Fit 

the  fifth  gear  synchromesh  hub  retaining 

plate,  p e g   outwards. 

6 .  

Omit  t h e  

ring  and  fit  the  sleeve  with  the 

slot over the 

peg. 

7. 

Fit  the  original  selective  washer and  retain  with 

t h e  snap ring.

Refit  the sleeve,  selective washer and snap ring 
and  remove  the protective  tape.
