DEFENDER 1999 MY

The rear fog guard lamp (C0233-4), which is provided a feed by the rear fog
guard lamp ECU (C0543-3) on a red/yellow wire.

The engine management warning lamp (C0233-11), which is provided a
feed by the Engine Control Module (ECM) (C0658-6) on a red/slate wire.

The glow plug warning lamp (C0233-12), which is provided a feed by the
ECM (C0658-30) on a black/yellow wire.

The engine immobilisation warning lamp (C0233-5), which is provided a
feed by the alarm ECU (C0057-9) on an orange wire.

IMMOBILISATION - Td5.

The differential lock warning lamp (C0233-7), which is provided a feed by
the differential lock unit (C0306-1) on a black/blue wire.

•

The traction control warning lamp (C0230-16), which is provided a feed by
the ABS ECU (C0504-17) on a yellow/slate wire.

The ABS warning lamp (C0230-7), which is provided a feed by the ABS
ECU (C0504-18) on a red/slate wire.

The oil pressure warning lamp (C0233-13), which is provided a feed by the
oil pressure switch (C0187-1) on a white/brown wire.

The ignition/no charge warning lamp (C0233-17), which is provided a feed
by the alternator (C0226-1) on a brown/yellow, then yellow/brown wire.

HORNS

DESCRIPTION
Defender 1999 MY vehicles are fitted with one or two horns (dependent on
market configuration), one mounted behind each headlamp. The horn(s) are
operated by depressing the end of the direction indicator switch, and are not
dependent on ignition switch position.

OPERATION
Feed from the battery positive terminal is connected to fusible link 1 and fuse 3
of the engine compartment fuse box (C0632-1) by a brown wire. Fusible link 1
and fuse 3 are connected in series.

Fuse 3 (C0570-2) supplies a constant battery feed to the horn switch (C0036-7)
on a brown/purple wire. If the switch is depressed the switch closes, allowing
current to flow across the switch (C0036-8) to header 285 (C0285-7) on a
purple/black wire. The RH (C0004-2) and LH (C0003-2) horns are wired in
parallel, and connected to header 285 (C0285-10 & C285-9 respectively) by
purple/black wires.

Both horns are earthed on black wires.

CLOCK

DESCRIPTION
The analogue clock is located within the instrument pack. The clock is
illuminated when the side lamps or headlamps are switched on.

OPERATION
Feed from the battery positive terminal connected to fuse 7 and fusible link 6 of
the engine compartment fuse box (C0632-1) by a brown wire. Fuse 7 supplies
a constant battery feed to the clock (C0232-3) on a purple/brown wire. The
clock (C0232-2) is earthed on a black wire.

Fusible link 6 of the engine compartment fuse box (C0571-3) is connected to
the lighting switch (C0041-1) by a brown/blue wire. When the lighting switch is
in the side lamp or headlamp position, current flows across the switch
(C0041-2) to fuse 12 of the passenger compartment fuse box (C0581-1) on a
red wire. Fuse 12 (C0581-4) supplies a feed to the clock illumination bulb
(C0232-1) on a red/orange wire via header 290. The clock illumination bulb
(C0232-2) is earthed on a black wire.

CIGAR LIGHTER

DESCRIPTION
The cigar lighter is located towards the centre of the dash panel. Pressing the
centre of the cigar lighter latches the heater element into the holder. With the
ignition in position ’I’, power flows through the heating element of the cigar
lighter, causing it to heat up. When the heating element reaches a sufficient
temperature, the holder automatically releases the cigar lighter which can then
be removed for use.

The cigar lighter holder is illuminated when the side lamps or headlamps are
switched on.

OPERATION
Feed from the battery positive terminal is connected to fusible link 5 and fusible
link 6 of the engine compartment fuse box (C0632-1) on a brown wire. Fusible
link 6 (C0571-3) supplies a constant battery feed to the lighting switch
(C0041-1) on a brown/blue wire. When the lighting switch is in the side lamp or
headlamp position, current flows across the switch (C0041-2) to fuse 12 of the
passenger compartment fuse box (C0581-1) on a red wire. Fuse 12 (C0581-4)
is connected to the cigar lighter illumination bulb (C0074-1) by a red/orange
wire. The bulb (C0089-1) is earthed on a black wire.

Fusible link 5 of the engine compartment fuse box (C0570-2) is connected to
the ignition switch (C0028-1) by a brown/white wire. When the ignition switch is
in position ’II’, current flows across the switch (C0099-1) to fuse 13 of the
passenger compartment fuse box (C0581-5) on a white/orange wire. When the
cigar lighter is depressed, it completes the circuit, allowing current flow to earth
(C0089-1) on a black wire.
