10.   

1. Release the chain tensioner using a 2 mm 

pin punch. 

2. Tension the timing chain. 
3.

NOTE: Only tighten the bolt finger tight 
at this stage. 

Secure the timing chain guide using an M6 
x 25 mm bolt.

WARNING: Counterhold the camshafts at 

the hexagon using an open-ended spanner to 
prevent the camshafts from rotating. 

12.

WARNING: Counterhold the camshafts at 

the hexagon using an open-ended spanner to 
prevent the camshafts from rotating. 

Undo the bolt of the camshaft sprocket by 5 
turns. 

13.

CAUTION: Make a note of/mark the 

installed positions of the components before 
removal.  

  

 

  

  

Installation 

1.

WARNING: Make sure that the camshafts 

and camshaft bearing caps are installed in 
their original locations. 

Apply oil to the camshaft bearing caps. 

Material: 

Hypoid Oil 85W-90 (SQ-M2C9002-AA / 

A72SX-19K261-CA)

 

2. Install the camshafts approximately at valve 

overlap position cylinder No. 4. 

Torque: 

 

7 Nm 
16 Nm 

Stage 1: 
Stage 2:

NOTE: This step is only required when 
installing a new component. 

Adjust the valve clearances. 

Refer to: Ventilspiel einstellen (303-01A Motor - 
2.0L Duratec-HE (MI4), General Procedures).

NOTE: Only tighten the bolt finger tight at 
this stage. 
NOTE: Make sure that the camshaft 
sprockets can rotate on the camshafts. 

5. Install the special tool.

7. Install the special tool. 

Special Tool(s): 

303-748

 

8.

WARNING: Only rotate the crankshaft 

clockwise. 

Turn the crankshaft until it stops against the 
special tool.  

9.

WARNING: Counterhold the camshafts at 

the hexagon using an open-ended spanner to 
prevent the camshafts from rotating. 

Torque: 

72 Nm 

10. Remove the special tool.

11. Remove the special tool. 

Special Tool(s):

12.

WARNING: Only rotate the crankshaft 

clockwise. 

Turn the crankshaft one and three quarters of a 
turn until no. 1 piston is at about 45° before 
TDC. 

13. Install the special tool.

14.

WARNING: Only rotate the crankshaft 

clockwise. 

Turn the crankshaft until it stops against the 
special tool.  

15.

NOTE: Only tighten the bolt finger tight at 
this stage. 
NOTE: The bolt may only be installed if the 
valve timings are correct. 

Bolt M6 x 18 mm 

16.

NOTE: The special tool may only be installed 
if the valve timings are correct. 

Install the special tool.
