5. Rear left-hand side member extension panel 

1. Mill out the spot welds with a spherical 

cutter. 

2. Grind out the spot welds. 

6. Rear right-hand side member extension panel 

1. Mill out the spot welds with a spherical 

cutter. 

2. Grind out the spot welds. 

 

 

7. Back panel reinforcement 

1. Mill out the spot welds. 
2. Mill out the spot welds (two panel 

thicknesses). 

8. Back panel reinforcement 

1. Mill out the spot welds with a spherical 

cutter. 

2. Mill out the spot welds. 

 

 

Installation 

NOTE: Before resistance spot welding of body panels with a total panel thickness of 3 mm 
and greater, the welding equipment instructions contained in sub-section 501-25 must be 
followed.

NOTE: By drilling out the holes it is possible 
to weld all three layers of metal together. 

Back panel reinforcement 

Drill out by one panel thickness. 

2. Back panel reinforcement 

1. Resistance spot weld. 
2. Puddle welding. 

 

 

3. Rear side member extension panel (left and 

right-hand side) 

Drill holes for puddle welding (10 mm 
diameter). 

4. Rear left-hand side member extension panel 

1. Puddle welding. 
2. Resistance spot weld.
