(15) Pull top back and install the heated back

glass electrical connector (Fig. 12)

(16) Install the convertible top fasteners (15 nuts)

(Fig. 10) and (Fig. 11).

(17) Connect negative battery cable. Install the

battery cover.

FUEL RAIL

OPERATION

The fuel system operates at approximately 379 kPa

(55 psi).

The intake manifold assembly contains a tubalur

fuel rail for the injectors. Check fuel system pressure
at the test port at the front of the fuel rail on the
passenger side.

REMOVAL

(1) Release fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel

Pressure Release Procedure in this section.

(2) Remove the battery cover and disconnect nega-

tive battery cable.

(3) Remove the air cleaner assembly, refer to the

Engine/Air Intake System/Air Cleaner Housing for
more information.

(4) Disconnect the electrical connector to the MAP

sensor and Coolant Temperature sensor (Fig. 19).

(5) Disconnect the electrical connector to the TPS

and Idle Air Control (Fig. 20).

(6) Remove the wiring harness from the wiring

clips under the throttle body (Fig. 21).

(7) Disconnect the electrical connector from the

fuel injectors (Fig. 22).

(8) Disconnect the fuel line quick connector (Fig.

23).

(9) Remove the bolts for the fuel rail (Fig. 24).

(10) Pull fuel rail and injectors straight up and out

of the intake manifold (Fig. 25).

(11) Move the fuel rail forward (Fig. 26) and out

from under the intake manifold and throttle body
(Fig. 27).

(12) Remove the fuel injector from the fuel rail

(Fig. 28).

INSTALLATION

(1) Install the fuel injectors to the fuel rail.
(2) Install fuel rail under throttle body.
(3) Apply a light coating of clean engine oil to the

O-ring on the nozzle end of each injector.

(4) Insert fuel injector nozzles into openings in

intake manifold (Fig. 25). Seat the injectors in place.
Tighten fuel rail bolts to 12 N·m (105 in. lbs.) (Fig.
24).

(5) Attach electrical connectors to fuel injectors

(Fig. 22).

(6) Connect the electrical connector to the MAP

sensor and Coolant Temperature sensor (Fig. 19).

(7) Connect the electrical connector to the TPS and

Idle Air Control (Fig. 20).

(8) Install the wiring harness to the wiring clips

under the throttle body (Fig. 21).

(9) Connect fuel supply tube to fuel rail (Fig. 23).

Refer to Quick Connect Fittings in the Fuel Delivery
section

(10) Install the negative battery cable and install

the battery cover.

(11) Install the air cleaner assembly, refer to the

Engine/Air Intake System/Air Cleaner Housing for
more information.

(12) Use the DRBIII

Test to pressurize the fuel system. Check for leaks.

FUEL TANK

OPERATION

The fuel tank is equipped with fuel and vapor con-

trols that allow the vehicle to pass a full 360° roll-
over without fuel leakage.

The fuel filler cap also acts as a pressure/vacuum

valve. When air pressure inside the fuel tank gets too
high or too low, the fuel cap valve opens to relieve
the difference in pressure.

An evaporation control system restricts fuel evapo-

ration into the atmosphere and reduces unburned
hydrocarbons. Vapors from the fuel tank are collected
in a charcoal filled canister. The vapors are held in
the canister until the engine is operating. When the
engine is running, the vapors are drawn through the
intake manifold into the combustion chambers.

The ORVR control valve manages the flow of vapor

during refueling. It also controls maximum fuel vol-
ume of the fuel tank (Fig. 29).

STANDARD PROCEDURE - FUEL TANK
CLOSEOUT PANEL

NOTE: This vehicle does not have a Fuel Tank
Closeout Panel. To remove the fuel tank a hole will
have to be cut in the trunk pan. Use a suitable cut-
ting tool, to cut the trunk pan.

(1) Take closeout panel and lay against the front of

the trunk pan.

(2) Mark the outer edge of the panel.
(3) Measure in 1/2 inch from the outline of the

closeout panel.

CAUTION: Do not protrude more than 1/2 inch thru
the panel. The fuel tank is behind this panel.

(4) Cut on the 1/2 inch line marked IN from out-

line of panel.

(5) Cut clearance notch for fuel pump module as

needed.

(6) Place panel in position and drill pop rivet

holes.

INSTALLATION

(1) Position closeout panel to vehicle.
(2) Apply a bead of Mopar

t Silicone Rubber Adhe-

sive Sealant, or equivalent, around perimeter of fuel
tank closeout panel.

(3) Push closeout panel forward into opening in

trunk pan.

(4) Install pop rivets attaching fuel tank closeout

panel to trunk pan.

REMOVAL

(1) Release fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel

Pressure Release Procedure in this section.

(2) Remove the battery cover and disconnect nega-

tive battery cable.

NOTE: The trunk panel (Fig. 30) will have to be cut
to remove the fuel tank.
