Symptom:

*RKE INOPERATIVE

POSSIBLE CAUSES

RKE TRANSMITTER - INOPERATIVE

RKE MODULE

RKE MODULE - RECEIVER INOPERABLE

APPLICABILITY

NOTE: Ensure the RKE module is configured for RKE and the M1 (IOD) fuse
is installed.
Note: Ensure the voltage of each battery is greater than 3.0 volts before
proceeding.
Do you have access to the Miller Tool

99001 RF DETECTOR9? ?

All

Yes

→ Go To 2

No

→ Go To 4

Using the 9001 RF Detector, follow the instructions on the back of the tester and test
the transmitter several times.
Does the signal strength measure

9STRONG9?

All

Yes

→ Go To 3

No

→ Replace the transmitter.

Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

Turn the ignition on
Place transmission in the Park position.
Ensure Vehicle Theft Security System (if equipped) is in Disarm Mode.
With the DRBIII

t, select Theft Alarm, VTSS, MISCELLANEOUS, then PROGRAM

RKE. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Exit PROGRAM RKE.
Activate the Door Locks using the RKE Transmitter.
Did the door locks respond properly to the RKE transmitter commands?

All

Yes

→ Repair complete.

Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

No

→ Replace the Remote Keyless Entry Module and reprogram all

transmitters used with this vehicle.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

POWER DOOR LOCKS/RKE

APPLICABILITY

Using the DRBIII select Theft Alarm, VTSS, MISCELLANEOUS then RKE FOB &
Module Test. Follow the instructions on the DRBIII screen.
Try the Door Locks using the original Transmitter.
Did the Door Locks respond properly to the Transmitter commands ?

All

Yes

→ Using the DRBIII, program the transmitter and recheck the

system. If okay, program all Transmitters that will be used with
this vehicle.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

No

→ Go To 5

Secure a known good Transmitter from another PL or PT vehicle.
Using the DRBIII select BODY, Theft Alarm, VTSS, MISCELLANEOUS then RKE
FOB & Module Test. Follow the instructions on the DRBIII screen.
Try the Door Locks using the Transmitter.
Did the Door Locks respond properly to the Transmitter commands ?

All

Yes

→ Replace the original Transmitter. Program all Transmitters that

will be used with this Vehicle.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

No

→ Replace the Remote Keyless Entry Module.

Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

POWER DOOR LOCKS/RKE

*RKE INOPERATIVE —

Symptom:

AMBIENT TEMP MESSAGE NOT RECEIVED

When Monitored and Set Condition:

AMBIENT TEMP MESSAGE NOT RECEIVED

When Monitored:

Whenever the module is awake.

Set Condition:

When the module looks for ambient temperature messages and they are

not received, this code will set.

With the DRBIII

t, record and erase DTC’s.

Cycle the ignition switch from On to Off.
Start the engine.
Run the engine at approximately 1500 RPM for 1 minute.
With the DRBIII

t, read DTCs.

Does the DRBIII

t display AMBIENT TEMP MESSAGES NOT RECEIVED?

All

Yes

→ Go To 2

No

→ The conditions that caused this code to set is not present at this

time. Using Service Information, check the charging system.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

Start the engine.
Run the engine at approximately 1500 RPM for 1 minute.
With the DRBIII

t, read ENGINE DTCs.

Does the DRBIII

t display any AMBIENT TEMP SENSOR DTC’s?

All

Yes

→ Refer to symptom Ambient Temp Sensor DTC’s in the Driveability

- NGC category.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

No

→ Replace the Window Regulator Module in accordance with the

Service Information..
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

POWER TOP

Symptom:

POWER TOP RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN

When Monitored and Set Condition:

POWER TOP RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN

When Monitored:

Whenever the module is awake.

Set Condition:

If the Driver Window Regulator Module does not sense any (0.0) voltage

on either the Top Down or Top Up Relay Control circuit, this code will set.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

TROUBLE CODE PRESENT

POWER TOP FUSE OPEN

RELAY FUSED B+ CIRCUIT OPEN

TOP DOWN RELAY CONTROL WIRE SHORT TO GROUND

TOP UP RELAY CONTROL WIRE SHORT TO GROUND

TOP DOWN RELAY CONTROL WIRE SHORT TO VOLTAGE

TOP UP RELAY CONTROL WIRE SHORT TO VOLTAGE

TOP DOWN RELAY CONTROL WIRE OPEN

TOP DOWN RELAY OPEN

TOP UP RELAY CONTROL WIRE OPEN

TOP UP RELAY OPEN

DRIVER WINDOW MODULE

With the DRBIII

t, record and erase DTC’s.

Cycle the ignition switch from On to Off.
Operate the Power Top down and up.
Wait one minute.
With the DRBIII

t, read DTCs.

Does the DRBIII

t display POWER TOP RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN/

SHORTED?

All

Yes

→ Go To 2

No

→ The conditions that caused this code to set is not present at this

time. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the
wiring and connectors for a intermittent condition.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.
