III. Bearing Adjustment Steps
(1) Take special care while fixing and unfixing the outer ring and cone of the roller
bearing. Fix with a press instead of a hammer as the latter will possibly misalign the outer
ring or the cone of the roller bearing. Replace any abnormal outer ring and cone.
(2) Replace any eroded or thermally deformed outer ring or cone of the roller bearing.
Replace the whole outer ring and cone if either of the roller bearing outer ring or needle
roller is found to be deformed.
(3) The preload and torque on the bearing must be proper to avoid early failure of the
bearing. The adjustment of the bearing must neither interfere with other moving parts nor
affect the gear engagement.
(4) Replace the bearings in pair: replace the two differential bearings in the case of
differential bearing defects; replace the two bearings on the input shaft in the case of
input shaft bearing defects.
(5) Do not use any disassembled bearing cone again.
(6) Apply the same torque whichever direction the bearing is rotated in.

IV. Adjusting the differential bearing preload
(1) Dismantle the outer ring and gasket of the roller bearing from the clutch body outer
casing.
(2) Fix one new outer ring of roller bearing onto the clutch body outer casing.
(3) Place one new outer ring of outer bearing into the gearbox.
(4) Apply some gearbox oil onto the differential bearing. Fix the differential assembly
onto the gearbox. Fix the clutch body outer casing onto the gearbox cover. Fasten the
gearbox screws with a torque of 29N.m.
(5) Place the clutch body outer casing of the gearbox on the worktable with the casing
facing down, and fix the dial indicator.
Note: place the dial indicator as the figure shows (Figure 60).Align the dial indicator with
the T handle to measure it correctly.
(6) Apply one moderate torque onto the differential by pressing down the T handle. Turn
the differential assembly to and fro to set the bearing in place.
Reset the dial indicator and read the axial clearance. Apply a certain load from front and
rear while turning the differential assembly (Figure 60). Record the axial clearance.
