Chery A15 Maintenance Manual Annex I ABS FAQ 1. What is ABS? ABS is an acronym for “Anti-lock Brake System”, which serves to ensure optimal braking distance and excellent brake stability and steerability on all kinds of road surfaces.
2. What does ABS do for me? ABS offers an important safety advantage by preventing the wheels from locking during emergency braking situations which will cause loss in steering control of front wheel and offtracking or side skidding of rear wheel, allowing drivers to maintain control over steering and operate vehicles more effectively to steer around obstacles.
3. How do I know if the vehicle I’m driving has ABS? Two methods recommended: 1. check your dashboard for a shortly lighted ABS warning light; or 2. simply ask your dealer.
4. How does ABS work? The electronic control unit in ABS modulates brake pressure at all four wheels through an electromagnetic valve according to signals sent by wheel speed sensors and some certain control logics, just like the way an experienced driver pumps brake pedal, the difference is that a computer reacts much quicker than human brains, and the effect is also much better.
5. How do I know my ABS is working? You will hear a mechanical sound and feel some pulsation in brake pedal when ABS is working. It is important not to take your foot off the brake pedal when you hear noise or feel vibrations, but instead continue to apply firm pressure.
