Chapter One   Maintenance of Vehicle Body Beam

A general description of the maintenance of vehicle body

The maintenance of vehicle body should be performed by professional personnel in

accordance with the requirements of manufacturer. Only in this way can the corrosion-free and

coating defect-free guarantee be achieved.

1.  Only those materials designated by manufacturer can be used;

2.  Apply a protection layer at the interior side before welding the metal parts on the

external surface of vehicle body;

3.  Paint containing zinc should be used when for spot welding;

4.  Apply a layer of filler paint on the internal and external sides of welding position before

conducting hermetic sealing.

5.  Apply a protection layer against rock-hitting before applying the protection coating of

the vehicle chassis;

6.  Fix all the openings on the coated surface after applying the paint.

Under certain circumstances, place the vehicle on a lifter platform as the overall vehicle

structure may be affected when disassembling the components.

Before performing spot welding, remove the electricity connection of the batteries. Before

welding, check if ventilation condition is good enough.

When performing the maintenance for certain area of the vehicle body, take care to protect

the other vehicles within this area.

Pay close attention when performing blasting or welding on the fuel tank or on

the area around fuel system components. If safety can’t be ensured, remove them.

Pay attention to all the precautions for faults during the maintenance of the vehicle body or

the paint coating.

In case of the welding of galvanized steel plates, when it is a spot welding, electricity current

should be 30% higher, the electrode should be needle type and the holding force for the electrode

should be increased; for a gas shield welding, the electricity current should be further increased.

No welding should be performed on the air conditioning components. The same kind of

welding should not be performed on the parts of vehicle which may be heated, either. While

performing the paint-coating during the maintenance of vehicle framework, the temperature

shouldn’t be higher than 80 C either in the drying furnace or the preheating furnace.

Take the following precautions to prevent electrical welding equipments being bumped

during the welding process.

  1. Weld earth of the electrical equipments directly to the part to be welded.

Note that there shouldn’t be any components or insulated components between earth

connection and the spot-welding parts while connecting the lines;

2. First remove ECU. Prevent the electrical devices or the circuits contacting earth

connection or the welding rods.

Correction:

In production line, the vehicle body and chassis go through the low-temperature

tempering and the cold casting process. So in case that any metal parts are damaged in an accident,

the same technical processes should be applied in restoring the vehicle. No heating is permitted. In

case that serious damages occur and it is not possible to restore the vehicle to its original shape,

discard the damaged parts after the surface of the joints have been repaired.
