DTC 2-3

CAUTION: Whenever the ignition switch is ON (II), or has

been turned OFF for less than 3 minutes, be careful not

to bump the SRS unit or the side impact sensor; the

airbags could accidentally deploy and cause damage or

injuries.

Try to reproduce the SRS indicator light:

1. Erase the DTC memory (see page 

24-87

).

2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the SRS

indicator light comes on for about 6 seconds, and then
goes off.

Check for a short to another wire in the SRS main harness:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the driver's airbag 2P connector (see page 

24-94

).

3. Disconnect the special tool from the SRS main har-

ness 4P connector (see page 

24-95

).

4. Disconnect the SRS main harness 18P connector from the

SRS unit (see page

 24-92

).

5. Check resistance between the No. 8 and No. 17 terminals

and between the No. 7 and No. 16 terminals of the SRS
main harness 18P connector. There should be 1 or
more.

Check for a short to another wire in the front passenger's
airbag inflator:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the SRS main harness 4P connector from the

front passenger's airbag 4P connector (see page 

24-95

).

3. Connect the special tool to the SRS main harness

4P connector (see page 

24-95

).

4. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
5. Erase the DTC memory (see page 

24-87

).

6. Read the DTC (see page 

24-84

).

Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. See
Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures on page 

24-87

.

Short to another wire in the front passenger's airbag infla-
tor; replace the front passenger's airbag (see page 

24-160

).

Faulty SRS unit; replace the SRS unit (see page 

24-181

).

Troubleshooting - '99 - 01 Models

DTC 2-4

CAUTION: Whenever the ignition switch is ON (II), or

has been turned OFF for less than 3 minutes, be careful

not to bump the SRS unit or the side impact sensor; the

airbags could accidentally deploy and cause damage or

injuries.

Try to reproduce the SRS indicator light:

1. Erase the DTC memory (see page 

24-87

).

2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the SRS

indicator light comes on for about 6 seconds and then
goes off.

Check for a short to power in the SRS main harness:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the driver's airbag 2P connector (see page

24-94

).

3. Disconnect the SRS main harness 18P connector from

the SRS unit (see page

 24-92

).

4. Disconnect the special tool from the SRS main har-

ness 4P connector (see page 

24-95

).

5. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
6. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
7. Check for voltage between the No. 8 terminal of the SRS

main harness 18P connector and body ground, and
between the No. 17 terminals of the SRS main harness 18P

connector and body ground. There should be 0.5 V or less.

8. Check for voltage between the No. 7 terminal of the SRS

main harness 18P connector and body ground, and
between the No. 16 terminals of the SRS main harness

18P connector and body ground. There should be 0.5 V

or less.

Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. See
Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures on page 

24-87

.

Check for a short to power in the front passenger's airbag
inflator:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the SRS main harness 4P connector from the

front passenger's airbag 4P connector (see page 

24-95

).

3. Connect the special tool to the SRS main harness

4P connector (see page 

24-95

).

4. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
5. Erase the DTC memory (see page

 24-87

).

6. Read the DTC (see page 

24-84

).

Short to power in the front passenger's airbag inflator;
replace the front passenger's airbag (see page 

24-160

).

Faulty SRS unit; replace the SRS unit (see page 

24-181

).

between the No. 17 terminal of the SRS main harness
18P connector and body ground. There should be 1

or more.

6. Check resistance between the No. 7 terminal of the SRS

main harness 18P connector and body ground, and
between the No. 16 terminal of the SRS main harness
18P connector and body ground. There should be 1
or more.

Check for a short to ground in the front passenger's airbag
inflator:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the SRS main harness 4P connector from the

front passenger's airbag 4P connector (see page 

24-95

).

3. Connect the special tool to the SRS main harness

4P connector (see page 

24-95

).

4. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
5. Erase the DTC memory (see page 

24-87

).

6. Read the DTC (see page 

24-84

).

Short to ground in the front passenger's airbag inflator;
replace the front passenger's airbag (see page 

24-160

). Faulty SRS unit; replace the SRS unit (see page 

24-181

).

Troubleshooting - '99 - 01 Models

DTC 3-1 and 3-2

CAUTION: Whenever the ignition switch is ON (II), or

has been turned OFF for less than 3 minutes, be careful
not to bump the SRS unit or the side impact sensor; the

injuries.

Try to reproduce the SRS indicator light:

1. Erase the DTC memory (see page

).

2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the SRS

indicator light comes on for about 6 seconds, and then
goes off.

Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. See

.

Check for an open or increased resistance in the SRS floor
harness:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the driver's and front passenger's side airbag

connectors, then disconnect the front passenger's airbag
connector (see page 

24-95

, 

24-96

).

3. Disconnect the SRS floor harness 18P connector from the

SRS unit (see page 

24-92

). Do not disconnect the special

tool from the SRS floor harness 2P connector.

4. Check resistance between the No. 4 and No. 5 terminals

of the SRS floor harness 18P connector. There should be
2.0-3.0

Check for an open or increased resistance in the driver's
seat belt tensioner:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the left side wire harness 2P connector from the

driver's seat belt tensioner 2P connector (see page 

24-95

).

3. Connect the special tool to the left side wire harness

2P connector (see page 

24-95

).

4. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
5. Erase the DTC memory (see page 

24-87

).

6. Read the DTC (see page 

24-84

).

Open or increased resistance in the driver's seat belt ten-
sioner; replace the driver's seat belt (see page 

24-165

).

Check for an open or increased resistance in the left side
wire harness:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the SRS floor harness 2P connector from the left

side wire harness 2P connector (see page 

24-96

).

3. Connect the special tool to the SRS floor harness 2P

connector (see page 

24-96

).

4. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
5. Erase the DTC memory (see page 

24-87

).

6. Read the DTC (see page 

24-84

).

Faulty SRS unit or poor contact at the SRS floor harness
18P connector and the SRS unit, check the connection
between the SRS floor harness 18P connector and the
SRS unit.
• If the connector is OK, replace the SRS unit (see page

24-181

).
