Check for a short to power:
Check the same terminals for
voltage.

CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT 20P CONNECTOR

Is there any voltage?

Check for an open in the wire(s):
Check for continuity between fol-
lowing terminals of the climate
control unit 8P and 20P connec-
tors and the air mix control
motor 5P connector.

Is there continuity?

Check for loose wires or poor con-

nections at the climate control
unit 8P and 20P connectors and at

the air mix control motor 5P con-

nector. If the connections are
good, substitute a known-good
climate control unit, and recheck.
If the symptom/indication goes
away, replace the original climate
control unit.

Repair short to power in the wire
between the climate control unit
and the air mix control motor.
(This damages the climate con-

trol unit.)

between the climate control unit
and air mix control motor.

Mode Control Motor

Self-diagnosis indicator light F comes on: A problem in the mode control motor circuit.

The mode control motor controls, the outlet air direction and volume according to output from the climate control unit.

Check the mode control motor:

1. Disconnect the mode control

motor 5P connector.

2. Test the mode control motor

(see page 

22-58

).

Check the mode control linkage
and doors:

1. Remove the mode control

motor (see page 

22-58

).

2. Check the mode control link-

age and doors for smooth
movement.

Check for a short in the wire(s):

1. Remove the climate control

unit (see page 

22-55

), and dis-

connect the 8P and 20P con-

nectors.

2. Check for continuity between

body ground and the 8P con-
nector terminals No. 2 and 3
individually, and between
body ground and the 20P con-
nector terminals No. 7, 8 and
14 individually.

Troubleshooting

Blower Motor Speed

Self-diagnosis indicator light G comes on: A problem in the blower motor circuit.

The speed of the blower motor is controlled by signals sent from the climate control unit.

Blower motor only runs on high
speed position; does not run in
any other speed positions.

Self-diagnosis circuit check indi-
cates a problem in the blower
motor circuit.

Check for an open in the wire:

1. Disconnect the power transis-

tor 3P connector.

2. Check for continuity between

the No. 1 terminal and body
ground.

Is there continuity?

Check for an open in the wire:

1. Connect the No. 1 and No. 3

terminals of the power tran-
sistor 3P connector with a
jumper wire.

2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

Does the blower motor run at
high speed?

Is there continuity?

POWER TRANSISTOR 3P CONNECTOR

Wire side of female terminals

Check for an open in the wire
between the power transistor
and body ground. If the wire is
OK, check for poor ground at
G401 and G402.

Repair open in the wire between
the power transistor and the
blower motor.

Repair open in the wire between

the power transistor and the cli-

mate control unit.

Check for an open in the wire:

1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

2. Disconnect the jumper wire.
3. Remove the climate control

unit (see page 

22-55

), and dis-

connect the 8P and 20P con-

nectors.

4. Check for continuity between

the No. 1 terminal of the cli-

mate control unit 20P connec-

tor and the No. 2 terminal of
the power transistor 3P con-
nector.
