IF A FUSE BLOWS

GENERAL fig. 37

The fuse is a protective device for the

electric system: it comes into action

(i.e. it cuts off) mainly due to a fault

or improper action on the system.

When a device does not work, check

the efficiency of its fuse. The conduc-

tor element must be intact. If not,

replace the fuse with one of the same

amp rating (same colour).

To facilitate fuse replacement, use the

pliers hooked to the fusebox on the

instrument panel.

fig. 37

Never replace a fuse with
metal wires or anything
else.

Never replace a fuse with
metal wires or anything

else. Never replace a fuse with an-
other with a higher amp rating,
DANGER OF FIRE.

WARNING

If a general fuse (MEGA-
FUSE, MIDI-FUSE, MAXI-

FUSE) cuts in, do not attempt any
repair and contact a Lancia Dealer-
ship.

WARNING

If fuse blows again, con-
tact a Lancia Dealership.

WARNING

Before replacing a fuse,
make sure the ignition key

has been removed and that all the
other services are switched off
and/or disengaged.

WARNING

If a general protection fuse
for safety systems (air bag

system, braking system), power
unit systems (engine system, trans-
mission system) or steering system
is triggered, contact a Lancia
Dealership.

IF THE BATTERY
IS FLAT

IMPORTANT Battery recharging pro-

cedure is given as information only

since this operation shall be only per-

formed at a Lancia Dealership.

Charging should be slow at a low amp

rating for 24 hours. Charging for a

longer time may damage the battery.

Charge the battery as follows:
❒ disconnect battery negative termi-

nal;

❒ connect the charger cables to the

battery terminals, observing the

poles;

❒ turn on the charger;
❒ when you have finished, turn the

charger off before disconnecting the

battery;

❒ reconnect battery negative termi-

nal.

The liquid contained in the
battery is poisonous and

corrosive. Avoid contact with the
skin or eyes. The battery should be
charged in a well ventilated place,
away from naked flames or possi-
ble sources of sparks: danger of ex-
plosion and fire.

WARNING

Do not attempt to charge a
frozen battery: it must

firstly be thawed, otherwise it may
burst. If freezing has occurred, the
battery should be checked by
skilled personnel to make sure that
the internal elements are not dam-
aged and that the body is not
cracked, with the risk of leaking
poisonous and corrosive acid.

TOWING THE CAR

The tow rings provided with the car

are housed in the tool box under the

The two tow rings have different

length: the short one shall be fitted on

the front side whereas the long one

shall be fitted on the rear side.

TOW RING HOOKING fig. 43-44

Proceed as follows:
❒ release plug fitting the screwdriver

into the proper slot and remove it by

levering outwards;

❒ take the tow hook from its support;
❒ tighten the ring on the rear or front

threaded pin.

JACKING THE CAR

If the car needs to be jacked up, go to

a Lancia Dealership which is equipped

with shop jacks and jack arms fig. 42.

Jack up the car only by positioning

the jack arms or the shop jack in the

points shown in the figures.

Before starting to tow, turn
the ignition key to MAR

and then to STOP. Do not remove
the key. If the key is removed, the
steering lock engages automati-
cally resulting in the impossibility
to steer the wheels.

WARNING

When towing, remember
that without the help of the

servobrake and power steering, a
greater effort is required on the
pedal and steering wheel. Do not
use flexible cables for towing and
avoid jerks. During towing opera-
tions make sure that fastening the
joint to the car does not damage the
components in contact with it.
When towing the car, you must
comply with the specific traffic
regulations regarding the tow ring
and how to tow on the road.

WARNING

Do not start the engine
when towing the vehicle.

WARNING

fig. 43

L0C0098m

fig. 44

L0C0272m

The front and rear tow
hooks should only be used

on the roads for emergency opera-
tions. Towing is permitted for short
journies using the special device that
conforms to the highway code (rigid
bar) to move the vehicle onto the
road in preparation for towing or
transportation on a special vehicle.
The hooks should NOT be used for
recovering the vehicle away from the
road or where there are obstacles
and/or for towing using cables or
other non rigid devices. With regard
to the above conditions, towing
should take place with the two ve-
hicles (the one towing and the one
being towed) aligned as closely as
possible along the same centre line
axis.

CAR

MAINTENANCE

SCHEDULED
SERVICING

Correct maintenance is essential for

ensuring long car life under the best

conditions.

This is why Lancia has programmed

a series of checks and maintenance

operations every 30,000 km.

It is however important to remember

that scheduled servicing does not

completely cover all the car’s require-

ments: also in the initial period before

30,000 km service coupon and later,

between one coupon and another, or-

dinary care is still required such as for

example routine check and topping

up the level of fluids, tyre pressure

check, etc...

IMPORTANT The Programmed Main-

tenance coupons are specified by the

Manufacturer. The failure to have

them carried out may invalidate the

warranty.

Scheduled Servicing is performed by

all Lancia Dealership, at pre-estab-

lished times.

If during each operation, in addition

to the ones programmed, the need

arises for further replacements or re-

pairs, these may be carried out only

with the explicit agreement of the

Customer.

IMPORTANT You are advised to con-

tact Lancia Dealership in the event of

any minor operating faults, without

waiting for the next service coupon.

If your car is used frequently for tow-

ing, the interval between one service

coupon and the other must be re-

duced.
