POWER WINDOWS

IMPORTANT With the ignition key

on STOP or removed, the power win-

dows remain activated for about 2

minutes and are deactivated immedi-

ately the moment a door is opened.

CONTROLS fig. 69

In the internal driver’s door armrest

are set two switches for controlling,

with ignition key at MAR:

front left-hand window open-

ing/closing;

front right-hand window open-

ing/closing.

On certain versions, pressing button

for over half a second will obtain

automatic operation: the window will

stop when it reaches the end of its

travel or until the button is pressed

again.

In the internal passenger’s door arm-

rest there is a switch for controlling

the passenger’s window fig. 70.

Improper use of the elec-
tric windows can be dan-

gerous. Before and during their op-
eration ensure that any passengers
are not at risk from the moving
glass either by personal objects
getting caught in the mechanism or
by being injured by it directly. Al-
ways remove the ignition key when
you get out of the car to prevent the
electric windows being operated
accidentally and constituting a
danger to the people left in the car.

The boot tailgate (when unlocked)

can be opened only from the outside

through the electric opening handle

set above the number plate holder

fig. 71.

If doors are unlocked the boot can be

opened at any time.

Operating the instrument panel dis-

play (see paragraph “Multifunction

display” in this chapter) it is possible

to activate option “Independent

boot”: in this way the boot is not un-

locked when unlocking the doors.

TAILGATE CLOSING

To close, lower the tailgate until the

lock clicks.

IMPORTANT If option “Independent

boot” is on, before closing the boot,

check whether you have with you the

ignition key since the boot will be

locked automatically.

To succeed in opening the tailgate

from the inside, should the car battery

be flat, or because of a defect of the

electric lock of the tailgate, proceed as

follows (refer to “Extending the boot”

in this section):

– remove the rear head restraints;

– tilt the rear seat cushions;

– tilt the backrests;

– operate lever B, after removing plug

A, to obtain tailgate mechanical re-

lease, operating from the inside of the

boot.

REAR PARCEL SHELF
REMOVAL fig. 74-75

To remove the rear parcel shelf in or-

der to extend the boot, proceed as fol-

lows:
❒ remove both rods from the relevant

catches B;

❒ pull out the rear parcel shelf with-

drawing the catches from their

housing.

The addition of objects
(speakers, spoilers, etc.) on
the rear shelf or boot lid,
except those envisaged by

the manufacturer, may prevent the
gas filled struts at the sides of the
boot from working properly.

When using the boot, make
sure the loads you are car-

rying do not exceed the permitted
weight (see section “Technical
specifications”). Also make sure
the items in the boot are arranged
properly to prevent them being
thrown forwards and injuring pas-
sengers should you brake sharply.

WARNING

Never travel with objects
on the rear shelf to prevent

them being thrown forwards and
injuring passengers in case of ac-
cident or sharp braking.

EXTENDING THE BOOT
(versions with rear single seat)

Partial extension

Use lever (in the passenger com-

partment) or the central tab in the

boot to move the seat forwards.

Total extension
❒ Remove the rear parcel shelf as pre-

viously described;

❒ Use lever or the central boot tab

to adjust the seat completely back-

wards;

❒ Raise the cushion on the front side

(1) and tilt it forwards operating

the rear side (2);

❒ To unlock the seat backrest lift lever

the same time;

❒ Slightly bend the backrest forward

and take the rear head restraints out

(where provided);

❒ Fold the back rest.

Returning the seat to its original
position

Repeat the above operations in reverse

sequence, refit belts into buckles (as

shown in the fig. 77) before tilting the

cushion to have them always ready

for use.

The cushion shall be re-positioned fit-

ting the rear part under the back rest

and then pressing the front part.

WARNING If the car is fitted with

Isofix anchoring points (see para-

graph “Presetting for mounting the

Isofix child restraint system” in the

chapter “Safe driving”) re-position

the cushion taking care to fit it under

the anchoring points.

EXTENDING THE BOOT
(versions with rear double seat)

Partial extension

Use lever (in the passenger com-

partment) or the central tab in the

boot to move the seat forwards.

Total extension
❒ Remove the rear parcel shelf as pre-

viously described;

❒ Use lever or the central boot tab to

adjust the seat completely back-

wards;

❒ Lift the cushion, raising it from the

front part (1), corresponding to the

section to fold and tilt it forward op-

erating the rear side (2); tilt both

cushions to fold the back rest com-

pletely;

❒ Lift lever or or pull the boot side

tabs or to unlock the backrest

section to fold and both to fold the

back rest completely;

❒ Slightly bend the backrest forward

and take the rear head restraints out

(where provided);

❒ Fold the back rest partly or totally.

Returning the seat to its original
position

Repeat the above operations in reverse

sequence, refit belts into buckles (as

shown in the fig. 80) before tilting the

cushion to have them always ready

for use.

The cushion shall be re-positioned fit-

ting the rear part under the back rest

and then pressing the front part.

WARNING If the car is fitted with

Isofix anchoring points (see para-

graph “Presetting for mounting the

Isofix child restraint system” in the

chapter “Safe driving”) re-position

the cushion taking care to fit it under

the anchoring points.

TO OPEN THE BONNET

Proceed as follows:
❒ pull lever A-fig. 81 in the direction

of the arrow;

❒ move lever B-fig. 82 leftwards as

shown by the arrow;

❒ lift the bonnet and at the same time

release the rod C-fig. 83 from the

catch D-fig. 83, then fit the rod end

into the bonnet recess E-fig. 83

(wide hole) and then press down to

safety position (small hole), as shown

in the figure.

IMPORTANT Before opening the bon-

net, check the windscreen wiper arms

are not lifted from the windscreen.

TO CLOSE THE BONNET

Proceed as follows:
❒ hold the bonnet up with one hand

and with the other remove rod C-

fig. 83 from recess D, with reverse

movement with respect to opening,

and fit it back into its catch;

❒ lower the bonnet at approx. 20 cm

from the engine compartment and

then let it drop, ensuring that it is

fully closed and not just held in po-

sition by the safety catch. If the

bonnet does not close properly do

not push it down but open it again

and repeat the above procedure.

IMPORTANT Always check that the

bonnet is closed properly to avoid its

opening while the car is travelling.

IMPORTANT You are recommended

to use roof rack/ski rack from the

Lineaccessori Lancia. Strictly follow

the instructions provided in the kit.

Fitting should be entrusted to skilled

personnel.

IMPORTANT Never exceed the max.

permissible loads (see section “Tech-

nical specifications”).

After few kilometers, check that fas-

tening screws are firmly tightened.

HEADLIGHTS

ADJUSTING THE HEADLIGHT
BEAM

Proper adjustment of the headlight

beams is of vital importance for your

safety and comfort and also for the

other road users. To ensure you and

other drivers have the best visibility

conditions when travelling with the

headlights on, the headlights must be

set properly. Contact Lancia Dealer-

ship to have the headlights properly

adjusted.

For safety reasons the
bonnet shall always be

perfectly closed when travelling.
Always check for proper bonnet
locking. If the bonnet is left inad-
vertently open, stop the car imme-
diately and close the bonnet.

WARNING

The bonnet might fall vio-
lently if the support rod is

not positioned properly.

WARNING

Perform the above opera-
tions when the car is sta-

tionary.

WARNING

Do not open the sunroof if
roof rack/ski rack are
mounted.

HEADLIGHT AIMING DEVICE

This device can be operated with the

ignition key at MAR and headlights

on. When the car is loaded, it slopes

backwards. This means that the head-

light beam rises. In this case, it is nec-

essary to return it to the correct posi-

tion.

To adjust the headlight slant 

Use buttons 

ö and õ located on the

instrument panel.

The display provides the visual indi-

cation of the positions during the ad-

justment operation fig. 85.

Position - one or two people occu-

pying the front seats.

Position - five people.

Position - five people + load in the

boot.

Position - driver + maximum per-

missible load stowed in the boot.

IMPORTANT Check beam aiming

every time the load carried changes.

HEADLIGHT ADJUSTMENT
ABROAD

The dipped beam headlights are ad-

justed for circulation in the country in

which the car is marketed. In coun-

tries with opposite circulation, to

avoid glaring oncoming vehicles it is

necessary to cover the areas of the

headlights as shown in the figure; this

is done using non-transparent sticker

tape.

The illustrations fig. 86-87 refer to

passing from right-hand drive to left-

hand drive.

ABS SYSTEM 

The car is fitted with an ABS braking

system, which prevents the wheels

from locking when braking, makes

the most of road grip and gives the

best control when emergency braking

under difficult road conditions.

System is completed by EBD (Elec-

tronic Braking Force Distribution),

which distributes the braking action

between front and rear wheels.

IMPORTANT To have the maximum

efficiency of the braking system, it is

necessary a setting period of about

500 km: during this period, it is bet-

ter to avoid sharp, repeated and pro-

longed brakes.

MECHANICAL BRAKE ASSIST
(emergency braking assistance)
(for versions/markets, 
where provided)

This system (which cannot be deacti-

vated) recognises emergency braking

conditions according to the speed of

operation of the brake pedal and pro-

vides an additional hydraulic braking

pressure to support that provided by

the driver. This allows faster and

more powerful operation of the

braking system.

IMPORTANT When the Mechanical

Brake Assist is activated noises can be

heard from the system. This is nor-

mal. Anyway, while braking keep the

brake pedal depressed.

FAILURE WARNINGS

ABS failure

ABS failure is indicated by instrument

panel warning light 

> coming on to-

gether with the message on the dis-

play (see section “Warning lights and

messages”).

In this case the braking system will

still be effective, although without the

anti-lock device. Drive carefully to the

nearest Lancia Dealership to have the

system checked.

EBD failure

EBD failure is indicated by instru-

ment panel warning lights 

> and x

coming on together with the message

on the display (see section “Warning

lights and messages”).

In this case with sharp braking the

rear wheels might lock too early, with

the possibility of skidding. Drive ex-

tremely carefully to the nearest Lan-

cia Dealership to have the system

checked.

If the ABS system cuts in it
is a sign that the grip be-

tween the tyre and the road surface
has reached the limit: you must
slow down to match the speed to
the road grip available.

WARNING

The ABS exploits the tyre-
road grip at the best, but it

cannot improve it; you should
therefore take every care when dri-
ving on slippery surfaces without
taking unnecessary risks.

WARNING

ABS INTERVENTION

When braking a slight pulsing ac-

companied by noise may be felt on

the brake pedal due to the action of

the ABS system.

The ESP system is an electronic sys-

tem controlling the car stability in the

event of tyre grip loss.

The ESP system is therefore particu-

larly useful when grip conditions of

the road surfaces change.
The MSR system (adjustment of the en-

gine braking torque during gear chan-

ges) and the HBA system (automatic

increase in the braking pressure during

emergency braking) are present with

ESP, ASR and Hill Holder systems (for

versions/markets where provided).

ESP SYSTEM INTERVENTION

It is indicated by the blinking of the

warning light 

á on the instrument

panel, to inform the driver that the car

is in critical stability and grip conditions.  

ESP SYSTEM OPERATION

The ESP system is automatically in-

serted when the car is started and

cannot be deactivated.

FAILURE WARNINGS 

In the event of failure, the ESP sys-

tem is automatically disconnected and

the warning light 

á will come on with

fixed light on the instrument panel to-

gether with the message on the re-

configurable multifunction display

(see section “Warning lights and mes-

sages”). In this case contact a Lancia

Dealership as soon as possible. 

HYDRAULIC BRAKE ASSIST 
(for versions/markets, 
where provided)

The Brake Assist is an integral part of

the ESP system. This device, that can-

not be cut out, recognizes emergency

braking (on the ground of the brake

pedal operation speed) and consider-

ably increases the pressure in braking

circuit. Hydraulic Brake Assist is de-

activated in the event of ESP system

failure (indicated by warning light 

á

switching on together with the mes-

sage on the display).

When the ABS cuts in, and
you feel the brake pedal

pulsating, do not remove your foot,
but keep it pressed; in doing so you
will stop in the shortest amount of
space possible under the current
road conditions.

WARNING

If the instrument panel
warning light 

comes on

(together with the message on the
display), stop the car immediately
and contact the nearest Lancia
Dealership. Fluid leaks from the
hydraulic system, in fact, can com-
promise the braking system, both
traditional systems and systems
with ABS.  

WARNING

ESP SYSTEM (Electronic Stability
Program)

(for versions/markets, where provided)

The performance of the
system, in terms of active

safety should not induce the driver
to take pointless and unnecessary
risks. The style of driving must in
any case always be adapted to the
conditions of the road surface, vis-
ibility and traffic. Road safety is
always the driver’s responsibility.

HILL HOLDER SYSTEM 
(for versions/markets, 
where provided)

It is an integral part of the ESP sys-

tem and facilitates starting on an up-

hill slope.

It is automatically activated in the fol-

lowing conditions:

Uphill: vehicle stationary on a road

with gradient above 2%, engine run-

ning, clutch and brake pedals pressed

and gearbox in neutral position or

gear engaged (reverse excluded).

Downhill: stationary on a road with

gradient above 2%, engine running,

clutch and brake pedals pressed and

reverse engaged.

During pickup the ESP system con-

trol unit maintains the wheel braking

pressure until the engine torque re-

quired for start up is reached, or any-

way for a maximum of 2 seconds, so

that the right foot can be moved eas-

ily from the brake pedal to the accel-

erator pedal.

After 2 seconds and without starting

the car, the system automatically de-

activates gradually releasing the brak-

ing pressure. During this phase it is

possible to hear the typical brake me-

chanical disengaging noise which in-

dicates the car is about to move off. 

Failure warnings

In the event of failure, the instrument

cluster warning light 

*

will come on

together with the message on the mul-

tifunction display (see section “Warn-

ing lights and messages”).

IMPORTANT The Hill Holder system

is not a parking brake therefore, never

leave the car without engaging the

parking brake, the first gear and turn-

ing the engine off.

ASR SYSTEM
(Antislip Regulation)

(for versions/markets, where
provided)

The ASR function controls the vehicle

drive and cuts in automatically every

time one or both driving wheels slip. 

In slipping conditions, two different

control systems are activated:
❒ if the slipping involves both the dri-

ving wheels, the ASR function in-

tervenes reducing the power trans-

mitted by the engine;

❒ if the slipping involves only one dri-

ving wheel, the ASR system cuts in

automatically braking the wheel

that is slipping.

The action of the ASR is particularly

helpful in the following circum-

stances:
❒ slipping of the inner wheel due to

the effect of dynamic load changes

or excessive acceleration;

❒ too much power transmitted to the

wheels also in relation to the con-

ditions of the road surface;

❒ acceleration on slippery, snowy or

frozen surfaces;

❒ in the case of loss of grip on a wet

surface (aquaplaning).

During the use of the spare
wheel, the ESP system

carries on working. However, you
must remind that the spare wheel
presents dimensions smaller than
the standard tyre and therefore the
grip is reduced as to the other car
tyres.

WARNING

For correct operation of
the ESP system, the tyres

must absolutely be of the same
brand and type on all wheels, in
perfect conditions and, above all,
of the type, brand and size speci-
fied.

SWITCHING ON/OFF 
OF THE ASR SYSTEM fig. 88

The ASR function switches on auto-

matically each time the engine is

started.

Switching on/off is indicated by the

relevant message on the display (see

section “Warning lights and mes-

sages”).

When travelling the device can be

switched off and on again pressing

switch on the central console. 

When the device is switched off this is

shown by the lighting up 

of the led on the switch.

If the ASR function is switched off

when travelling, it will turn on again

automatically the next time the engine

is started.

When travelling on snow with snow

chains, it may be helpful to turn the

ASR device off: in fact, in these con-

ditions, slipping of the driving wheels

when moving off makes it possible to

obtain better drive.

system, in terms of active

EOBD SYSTEM

The EOBD system (European On

Board Diagnosis) allows continuos di-

agnosis of the components of the car

correlated with emissions.

It also alerts the driver, by the turn-

ing on of the warning light  

U on the

instrument cluster (together with the

message on the display) (see section

“Warning lights and messages”),

when these conditions are no longer

in peak conditions.

The objective is: 
❒ to keep system efficiency under

control;

❒ warn when a fault causes emission

levels to increase;

❒ warn of the need to replace deteri-

orated components.

The system has a diagnostic connec-

tor that can be interfaced with ap-

propriate tools, which makes it possi-

ble to read the error codes stored in

the control unit, together with a series

of specific parameters for engine op-

eration and diagnosis. This check can

also be performed by traffic controller

agents.

BOSE HI-FI SOUND
SYSTEM

(for versions/markets, 

where provided)

The HI-FI sound system was specifi-

cally designed to offer the best

acoustic performance and the musical

realism of a live concert in each seat

in the passenger compartment.

System characteristics include crys-

talline treble and full, rich basses

which makes useless the Loudness

function. Furthermore, the complete

range of tones is played in the entire

passenger compartment embracing

the passengers with the feeling of

space typical of live music.

The system components are patented

and result from state-of-the-art tech-

nology. At the same time, the system

is easy and intuitive to use and allows

even the least experts to use the sys-

tem to the best.

IMPORTANT After eliminating the

inconvenience, to check the system

completely, Lancia Dealership is

obliged to run a bench test and, if

necessary, road tests which may also

call for a long journey.

SOUND SYSTEM

(for versions/markets, 

where provided)

Large oddment compartments in the

dashboard and doors which make the

passenger compartment even more

comfortable can be fond in cars not

equipped with a sound system set-up.

As concerns the radio with Compact

Disc/MP3 CD player (where pro-

vided), refer to the Supplement at-

tached to this Owner Handbook. 

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

The system consists of:
❒ 2 tweeters, 30W max power each;
❒ 2 front mid-woofers, 165 mm di-

ameter, 30W max power each;

❒ 2 rear full-range speakers, 165 mm

diameter, 30W max power each.

If turning the ignition key
to MAR, the warning light

does not turn on or if,

while travelling it turns on

glowing steadily or flashing (to-
gether with the message on the dis-
play), contact Lancia Dealership as
soon as possible. Warning light

operation can be checked by means
of special equipment. Always com-
ply with the traffic regulations in
force in the country where you are
travelling.

The HI-FI sound system consists of:
❒ Wide-band speakers, 165 mm di-

ameter, 50 mm coaxial tweeter, on

front doors.

❒ Mid-woofers for best mid-bass

playing, 150 mm diameter, on rear

inside valance panels.

❒ Sub-woofer box of the Bass-reflex

type, located in the boot with built-

in 130 mm diameter double coil

woofer.

❒ Power amplifier, 6 independent

channels, located on the body at the

back of the sub-woofer box, for

controlling all car speakers.

If after buying the car, you decide to

install electrical accessories that re-

quire a permanent electric supply

(alarm, satellite antitheft system, etc.)

or accessories that in any case burden

the electric supply, contact Lancia

Dealership, whose qualified person-

nel, besides suggesting the most suit-

able devices belonging to Lineacces-

sori Lancia, will also evaluate the

overall electric absorption, checking

whether the car’s electric system is

able to withstand the load required,

or whether it needs to be integrated

with a more powerful battery.

INSTALLATION OF ELECTRIC/
ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Electric/electronic devices installed af-

ter buying the car or in aftermarket

shall bear the and marking:

Fiat Auto S.p.A. authorizes the in-

stallation of transceivers provided that

installation is carried out at a special-

ized shop, workmanlike performed

and in compliance with manufac-

turer's specifications.

IMPORTANT Installation of devices

resulting in modifications of car char-

acteristics may cause driving license

seizing by traffic agents and also the

lapse of the warranty as concerns de-

fects due to the abovementioned mod-

ification or traceable back to it di-

rectly or indirectly.

Fiat Auto S.p.A. declines all respon-

sibility for damages caused by the in-

stallation of non-genuine accessories

or not recommended by Fiat Auto

S.p.A. and installed not in compliance

with the specified requirements.

MOBILE PHONES

Radio transmitter equipment (vehicle

mobile phones, CB radios, amateur

radio etc.) shall not be used inside the

car unless a separate aerial is

mounted on the roof.

IMPORTANT The use of similar de-

vices inside the passenger compart-

ment (without separated aerial) pro-

duces radio-frequency electromag-

netic fields which, amplified by the

resonance effects inside the passenger

compartment, may cause electrical

systems equipping the vehicle to mal-

function. This could compromise

safety in addition to constituting a po-

tential hazard for the passengers.

In addition, transmission and recep-

tion of these devices may be affected

by the shielding effect of the vehicle

body.

As concerns EC-approved mobile

phones (GSM, GPRS, UMTS), strictly

comply with the instructions for use

provided by the mobile phone’s man-

ufacturer.

“DUALDRIVE”
ELECTRIC POWER
STEERING SYSTEM

The car is fitted with an electrically

controlled power steering system (that

works only with ignition key at MAR

and engine running), called “Du-

aldrive” that can be customised by the

driver according to the driving condi-

tions.

ACTIVATION/DEACTIVATION
(CITY function) fig. 89

To turn this function on/off, press the

CITY button located in the middle of

the instrument panel.

Connection of this function is reported

by the word CITY on the display.

When the CITY function is on, the

steering wheel effort is lighter and

thus parking operations are easier:

therefore this function is particularly

useful for driving in city centres.

FAILURE WARNINGS

Any failure is indicated by cluster

warning light

coming on together

with the message on the display (see

“Warning lights and messages” sec-

tion).

In the event of electric power steering

system failure, the car can be driven

with mechanical steering.

IMPORTANT The steering may be-

come slightly stiff following parking

manoeuvres including a great deal of

steering. This is normal and caused

by a system to prevent motor over-

heating. No servicing is required. The

electrical power steering system will

return to normal operation the next

time the car is used.

PARKING SENSOR

(for versions/markets, 
where provided)

The parking sensor, located in the

rear bumper fig. 90, detects and in-

forms the driver (through an inter-

mittent acoustic signal) about the

presence of obstacles in the rear part

of the car. 

ACTIVATION

The sensor is automatically activated

when the reverse gear is engaged.

The sound produced by the acoustic

alarm becomes louder when the dis-

tance between the car and the obsta-

cle decreases. 

BUZZER WARNINGS

When the reverse gear is engaged an

intermittent acoustic signal is auto-

matically activated. 

The acoustic signal:
❒ becomes louder as the reduction of

distance between the car and the ob-

stacle decreases;

❒ becomes continuous when the dis-

tance between the car and the obsta-

cle is less that 30 cm and stops if the

distance raises;

❒ is constant if the distance is unvaried.

If several obstacles are detected, the

sensor indicates the nearest one.

FAILURE WARNINGS

In case of parking sensor failure, the

driver is warned when engaging the

reverse gear by the sound of a buzzer

(for about 3 seconds).

It is absolutely forbidden to
carry out whatever after-

market operation involving steering
system or steering column modifi-
cations (e.g.: installation of anti-
theft device) that could badly affect
performance and safety, cause the
lapse of warranty and also result in
non-compliance of the car with ho-
mologation requirements.

WARNING

Always switch the engine
off, remove the key from

the starting device and actuate the
steering lock before carrying out
any maintenance operation, espe-
cially when the wheels are raised
from the ground. In case this is not
possible (e.g. when the key must be
in MAR position or the engine run-
ning), remove the electric power
steering main fuse before carrying
out any maintenance operation.
