Huawei OptiX OSN 3500. Technical Manual - part 2

Introduction
1.2.2 Highly Integration
The size of the OptiX OSN 3500 subrack is 730mm (H) × 496mm (W) × 295mm (D),
and it can be installed in 300mm-deep ETSI cabinet. A 2.2m-high and 300mm-deep
ETSI cabinet can house two OptiX OSN 3500 subracks
The OptiX OSN 3500 subrack has fifteen slots for processing board: Slot 1 ~ Slot 8
and Slot 11 ~ Slot 16. Slot 17 can also hold processing board. Besides, the OptiX
OSN 3500 has sixteen slots for interface board, one slot for auxiliary interface board,
and three fan modules. In practice, a variety of board configurations offer incremental
bandwidth increases as needed and support E1, T1, E3, DS3, E4, STM-1 (E/O),
STM-4, STM-16 and STM-64 service, transparent transmission of AU3 service, and
the 10/100/1000M Ethernet service as well.
1.2.3 Ethernet Service
The OptiX OSN 3500 integrates Ethernet access into the same SDH platform that
transports voice traffic. Ethernet over SDH lets service providers augment TDM
services with Ethernet, and allows delivery of data traffic over existing facilities. The
OptiX OSN 3500 can
„ Support 10M/100M/1000M Ethernet traffic.
„ Support encapsulate protocols such as High-level Data Link Control (HDLC),
Link Access Procedure-SDH (LAPS) and Generic Framing Procedure (GFP).
„ Support Layer 2 switching and the ability to classify Ethernet traffic as defined
in IEEE 802.1Q-tag standard.
„ Support transparent transmission and convergence of Ethernet traffic.
„ Support Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS), achieving capacity
adjustment dynamic of transmission bandwidth and protection of concatenated
group..
„ Support Layer 2 VPN function and implements the EPL(Ethernet Private Line) ,
EVPL(Ethernet Virtual Private Line), EPLn/EPLAN(Ethernet Private LAN) and
EVPLn/EVPLAN(Ethernet Virtual Private LAN) services.
1.2.4 Interface
Abundant SDH interfaces, PDH interfaces, Ethernet interfaces, clock interfaces,
alarm interfaces and administration interfaces are provided by the OptiX OSN 3500,
as shown in Table 1-1.

Introduction
1.2.5 Cross-Connect Capability
The OptiX OSN 3500 offers versions of three cross-connect boards: the General
Cross-connect & clock Board GXCS and the Enhanced Cross-connect & clock Board
EXCSA/B. Table 1-2 shows the cross-connect capacity of the OptiX OSN 3500.

1.2.8 Networking and Protection
Being an MADM system, the OptiX OSN 3500 can provide processing capacity for up
to 40 Embedded Control Channels (ECCs), fully meeting the requirements for
complicate networking. It is applicable to various networks at
STM-1/STM-4/STM-16/STM-64 level, such as chain, ring, hub, ring with chain,
tangent rings and intersection rings. For protection at network level, the OptiX OSN
3500 supports 4-fiber/2-fiber Multiplex Section Protection (MSP) ring, linear MSP,
shared optical path virtual trail protection and Subnetwork Connection Protection
(SNCP). Table 1-5 shows the maximum number of the MSP ring supported by the
OptiX OSN 3500.

1.2.9 Squelching Function in Multiplex Section
Each protection time slot in multiplex section protection ring is shared by traffic from
different segments or occupied by extra traffic. With no extra traffic in the ring, and
1-8
Introduction
under the situation that a certain node is isolated because of multiple points’ failure,
traffic from different segments of the same time slot may contend for the same
protection channel time slot. This brings misconnection of traffic. With extra traffic in
the ring, and even under the situation of a single node’s failure, traffic from working
channel may contend for the time slot of protection channel carrying extra traffic. This
also brings misconnection.
To prevent misconnection, every node of the OptiX OSN 3500 has a detailed
connection table. Every node knows the source point and endpoint of each AU-4,
which can tell the potentialities of misconnection in advance with combination of APS
command. Traffic with the potentiality of misconnection is discarded through inserting
AU-AIS.
The OptiX OSN 3500 supports the function of squelching misconnected VC-4 traffic.
