NOTICE:

Remove any oil from the contact surface.
Install the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH within 3 minutes and tighten the bolts within 15
minutes after applying seal packing.

(d) Install the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH washer with

a new seal and the 14 bolts.

Torque:

for bolt A -

21 N·m {214 kgf·cm, 15ft·lbf}

except bolt A -

12 N·m {122 kgf·cm, 9ft·lbf}

NOTICE:

Do not start the engine for at least 2 hours after the

installation.

4. INSTALL CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

(a) Install 5 new gaskets to the No. 1 camshaft bearing cap and No. 3 camshaft bearing cap.

(b) Install the gasket to the cylinder head cover sub-assembly RH.

NOTICE:

Remove any oil from the contact surface.

(c) Apply seal packing as shown in the illustration.

Seal packing:

Toyota Genuine Seal Packing Black, Three Bond 1207B or equivalent

5. INSTALL IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY

(a) Install the 8 ignition coils with the 8 bolts.

Torque:

10 N·m {102 kgf·cm, 7ft·lbf}

6. INSTALL CRANKSHAFT PULLEY

(b) Using SST, install the crankshaft pulley set bolt.

SST: 09213-70011

Torque:

300 N·m {3059 kgf·cm, 221ft·lbf}

7. CONNECT WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET

(a) Connect the wire harness clamp bracket to the timing chain cover sub-assembly with the bolt.

Torque:

8.0 N·m {82 kgf·cm, 71in·lbf}

8. INSTALL NO. 1 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Install the No. 1 idler pulley sub-assembly with the bolt.

Torque:

43 N·m {438 kgf·cm, 32ft·lbf}

9. INSTALL WATER PUMP PULLEY

(a) Temporarily install the water pump pulley with the 4 bolts.

(b) Using SST, hold the water pump pulley and tighten the 4 bolts.

Torque:

21 N·m {214 kgf·cm, 15ft·lbf}

10. INSTALL WATER INLET HOUSING

(a) Install a new gasket to the timing chain cover sub-assembly.

(b) Install the water inlet housing with the 3 bolts.

Torque:

21 N·m {214 kgf·cm, 15ft·lbf}

11. INSTALL AIR TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Connect the 2 hoses.

(b) Install the air tube sub-assembly with the bolt.

Torque:

10 N·m {102 kgf·cm, 7ft·lbf}

12. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE COVER 

13. INSTALL NO. 2 ENGINE COVER 

14. INSTALL FRONT WATER BY-PASS JOINT

(a) Install 2 new gaskets and the front water by-pass joint with the 4 nuts to the cylinder head.

Torque:

21 N·m {214 kgf·cm, 15ft·lbf}

(b) Connect the No. 2 water by-pass hose to the front water by-pass joint, and slide the clamp to secure

the hose.

15. CONNECT NO. 10 WATER BY-PASS HOSE

(a) Connect the No. 10 water by-pass hose to the front water

by-pass joint, and slide the clamp to secure the hose.

16. CONNECT NO. 9 WATER BY-PASS HOSE

(a) Connect the No. 9 water by-pass hose to the front water by-pass joint, and slide the clamp to secure

the hose.

17. INSTALL WATER BY-PASS PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Connect the No. 2 water by-pass hose and No. 3 water by-pass hose to the water by-pass pipe

sub-assembly, and slide the 2 clamps to secure the hoses.

(b) Install the water by-pass pipe sub-assembly with the 2 bolts.

Torque:

10 N·m {102 kgf·cm, 7ft·lbf}

(c) Connect the air tube sub-assembly with the bolt.

Torque:

10 N·m {102 kgf·cm, 7ft·lbf}

18. INSTALL NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS HOSE

(a) Connect the No. 1 water by-pass hose to the inlet water housing and front water by-pass joint, and

slide the 2 clamps to secure the hoses.

19. INSTALL GENERATOR ASSEMBLY

(a) Install the 2 stud bolts.

Torque:

10 N·m {102 kgf·cm, 7ft·lbf}

(b) Install the generator assembly with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.

Torque:

43 N·m {439 kgf·cm, 32ft·lbf}

(c) Connect the generator connector.

(d) Connect the generator assembly wire with the nut.

Torque:

9.8 N·m {100 kgf·cm, 87in·lbf}

(e) Install the terminal cap.

(f) Connect the wire harness bracket to the generator assembly with the bolt.

Torque:

31 N·m {316 kgf·cm, 23ft·lbf}

20. CONNECT VANE PUMP ASSEMBLY

HINT:

Before performing the following procedures, move the spacer

until the vane pump assembly can be installed.

(a) Connect the vane pump assembly to the timing chain cover

sub-assembly with the 2 bolts.

Torque:

28 N·m {286 kgf·cm, 21ft·lbf}

21. INSTALL ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK GUIDE

(c) Install the oil filter bracket with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.

Torque:
