PERFORM OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION MODULE SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST

Verify that the passenger seat is empty.

Verify that all of the Seat Weight Sensor mounting screws are torqued to specification. Refer to 23 - BODY/SEATS.

NOTE: Failure to follow the test instructions or aborting the test will cause faults to set when performing
the Occupant Classification Module System Verification Test. To prevent faults due to process errors: Verify
That All Tests Steps That Led You Here Were Performed As Directed; Verify That The Ignition Is In Run; Wait
30 Seconds After Changing The Seat Weight Before Proceeding To Allow The System To Stabilize; Only
Press Scan Tool Buttons When Directed To Do So; & Perform The Occupant Classification Module System
Verification Test To Completion.
With the scan tool in OCM, select More Options, select System Tests, and select Occupant Classification Module
System Verification Test. Run the test by following the instructions displayed on the scan tool. When the test is
complete, proceed as follows.

With the scan tool, read OCM DTCs.

Does the scan tool display active: B1BA7–OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM VERIFICATION
REQUIRED?

Yes

>> Perform the *Diagnosis/Checkout Procedure For Seat Weight Sensors.

Perform OCS VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

No

>> Other DTCs Present? Diagnose and repair the DTCs. Refer to the Table of Contents in this Section for

a complete list of symptoms.

No

>> Perform OCS VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

CHECK FOR ACTIVE DTC B1BA8–OCM SYSTEM OUT OF CALIBRATION/NOT CALIBRATED

With the scan tool, read OCM DTCs.

Does the scan tool display active: B1BA8–OCM SYSTEM OUT OF CALIBRATION/NOT CALIBRATED?

Yes

>> Diagnose and repair the DTC. Refer to the Table of Contents in this Section for a complete list of symp-

toms.

No

When Monitored:
When the ORC is not configured for an ON - OFF switch, the ORC monitors the Passenger Airbag On - Off
Switch inputs to determine if a switch is present.

Set Condition
The code will set, if the ORC detects a Passenger Airbag ON - OFF Switch connected to the Airbag Control
Module.
ORC is not configured for an ON - OFF switch, the ORC monitors the Passenger Airbag On - Off Switch inputs
to determine if a switch is present.

Possible Causes

ACM NOT CONFIGURED FOR PAB OFF SWITCH

ACM, MODULE NOT CONFIGURED FOR PAB OFF SWITCH

PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR DRIVER CIRCUIT SHORT

PAB MUX SWITCH CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND

PAB MUX SWITCH CIRCUIT SHORT TOGETHER

ACM, PAB ON - OFF SWITCH CIRCUIT SHORTED

STORED CODE OR INTERMITTENT CONDITION

ACTIVE CODES PRESENT

Diagnostic Test

1.

DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC

Turn the ignition on.

Ensure the battery is fully charged.

NOTE: For the purpose of this test, the AECM and ACM modules will be referred to as an ORC.

NOTE: When reconnecting Airbag system components, the ignition must be turned off and the battery must
be disconnected.

SELECT ACTIVE or STORED DTC:

ORC - ACTIVE DTC

Go To 2

ORC - STORED DTC

Go To 9

2.

VERIFY EQUIPMENT

Inspect vehicle for a Passenger Airbag On - Off Switch located in the center of the instrument panel.

Is this vehicle equipped with a Passenger Airbag On - OFF Switch?

Yes

>> Go To 3

No

>> Go To 4

ORC NOT CONFIGURED FOR PAB ON - OFF SWITCH

Select Restraints, Airbag and then Miscellaneous from the Scan Tool menu.

Follow instructions to verify the ORC switch configuration.

Does the Scan Tool show Configured for PAB OFF Switch?

Yes

>> Go To 8

No

>> Follow instructions on the Scan Tool to configured the Occupant Restraint Controller to support the Pas-

senger Airbag Switch On - Off Switch.

Perform AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

VERIFY CIRCUITS

Inspect vehicle for a Passenger Airbag On - Off Switch wiring at the ORC connector.

NOTE: Some vehicles may have the wiring for the Passenger Airbag Off Switch and no switch.

Is this vehicle equipped with a Passenger Airbag On - OFF Switch wiring?

Yes

>> Go To 5

No

>> Go To 8

5.

PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR DRIVER CIRCUIT SHORT

WARNING: TO AVOID PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH, TURN THE
IGNITION OFF, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND WAIT TWO MIN-
UTES BEFORE PROCEEDING.
Disconnect the Occupant Restraint Controller connector(s).

NOTE: Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.

WARNING: IF THE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER IS
DROPPED AT ANY TIME, IT MUST BE REPLACED. FAILURE TO
TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDEN-
TAL AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.
Connect the appropriate Load Tool ORC Adaptor to the Occupant
Restraint Controller connector.

Measure the resistance of the PAB Indicator Driver circuit between the
ORC Adaptor and ground.

Is the resistance below 10K ohms?

Yes

>> Repair the Passenger Airbag Indicator Driver circuit short

to ground.

Perform AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

No

>> Go To 6
