essary. The hub must be smooth to avoid damaging (1) Lubricate converter hub and oil pump seal lip with transmission fluid. (2) Place torque converter in position on transmis- sion. CAUTION: Do not damage oil pump seal or bushing (3) Align torque converter to oil pump seal open- ing. (4) Insert torque converter hub into oil pump. converter until converter is fully seated in the oil (6) Check converter seating with a scale and straightedge (Fig. 393). Surface of converter lugs (7) If necessary, temporarily secure converter with C-clamp attached to the converter housing. If chain length is sus- (1) Insert a screwdriver into the 18 mm hole with the screwdriver ABOVE the chains (Fig. 394). (2) Pry the chains down at the center of the chains. (3) Butt a scale against the snubber and mark the scale at the bottom of the chains (Fig. 395).
