Dismantling

Put the differential housing on its 
crownwheel side and pull off the 
crownwheel bearing using tool 98 567 and 
98 568.

Mark the mutual positions of all the parts in 
the housing. Dismantle the housing 52-58 
and remove the spider 56, pinions 55, 
gears 57 and washers 53-54.

IMPORTANT! The parts must not be mixed 
when assembling. If any part is damaged and 
needs to be renewed, all the other parts must be 
renewed as well.

Turn over the differential housing. Cut off 
the bearing roller cage and remove the cage 
and rollers.

WARNING!

Use protective goggles when grinding.

Grind a narrow groove in the inner bearing 
ring with a grinding wheel with a diameter 
below 60 mm.

Weld a few beads on the inner bearing ring 
with an electric welder. Cool with a wet rag 
after each weld.

Remove the inner bearing ring once it splits. 
It will break through shrinkage after 4-5 
welds.

Remove the retaining ring 50. Use retaining 
ring pliers 587 311.

Mount the differential housing half in a 
press. Use drift 87 579 as a spacer.

9

Remove the lock washer 57 for the 
crownwheel bolts 49 using a crowbar, for 
example.

10 Remove the crownwheel bolts and then the 

crownwheel.
