Removing the engine

Special tools

Drain the oil and coolant.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Disconnect the electric cable to the fan if the 
vehicle is fitted with an electrically 
controlled fan.

Detach the coolant lines, charge air pipe 
between the engine and the charge air cooler 
and the ventilation line from the engine to 
the expansion tank.

Detach the inlet pipe between the 
turbocharger and the air filter.

6

Remove the gear change linkage between 
the cab and the chassis.

7

Disconnect the engine wiring at the cab 
grommet.

Remove the exhaust brake and exhaust 
bellows after the turbocharger.

Disconnect the connections to the cab heater 
or Webasto heater, depending on the version 
fitted.

10 Remove the power steering pump.

11 Disconnect the starter motor wiring.

12 Disconnect the earth braids on the right and 

left-hand sides.

13 Disconnect the fuel lines 1, the clamp in the 

chassis for the overflow lines 2, the 
compressed air line 3 and the signal line 
from the compressor 4.

14 Remove the oil filler and the oil dipstick.

15 Remove the oil pipes from the oil cooler for 

the gearbox if the vehicle is fitted with a 
fluid cooled gearbox oil cooler.

16 Remove the cable duct to the engine speed 

sensor on the flywheel.

17 Disconnect the filter housing for the 

crankcase ventilation and place to one side 
so that it is free from the lifting chain.

18 Disconnect the AC compressor and place it 

to one side.
