Front Damper

Reassembly

1. Install the damper unit on a spring compressor.

NOTE: Follow the manufacturer's instructions.

STRUT SPRING COMPRESSOR:
(Commercially available)

BRANICK® T/N MST-580A, T/N 7200,
or equivalent

SPRING LOWER SEAT

2. Assemble the damper in the reverse order of disas-

sembly except the damper mounting washer and self-
locking nut.

NOTE: Align the bottom of the damper spring and

spring lower seat as shown.

3. Position the damper mounting base on the damper

unit as shown.

4. Compress the damper spring with the spring com-

pressor.

5. Install the damper mounting washer, then loosely

install a new self-locking nut.

6. Hold the damper shaft with a hex wrench, and tighten

the self-locking nut.

SELF-LOCKING NUT
Replace.

Installation

1. Loosely install the damper on the frame with the

aligning tab facing inside, then loosely install the
five flange nuts.

38 N-m (3.9 kgf-m, 28 Ibf-ft)
Tighten these nuts in step 6.

ALIGNING TAB

2. Install the damper fork over the driveshaft and onto

the lower arm. Install the damper in the damper fork

so the aligning tab is aligned with the slot in the
damper fork.

3. Hand-tighten the bolts and nuts.

4. Raise the knuckle with a floor jack until the vehicle

just lifts off the safety stand.

NOTE: The bolts and nuts should be tightened with

the vehicle's weight on the damper.

The floor jack must be securely posi-

tioned or personal injury may result.

DAMPER FORK

5. Tighten the flange bolt.

6. Tighten the flange bolt with a new self-locking nut.

7. Tighten the damper to the frame with the flange nuts.

8. Install the brake hose clamps.

Rear Suspension

Hub Bearing Unit Replacement

NOTE:

• Use only genuine Honda wheel weights for aluminum wheels. Non-genuine wheels weights may corrode and damage

aluminum wheels.

• Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surfaces of the brake disc and inside of the wheel.

PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY

Do not disassemble.

HUB BEARING UNIT
Inspect for faulty
movement and wear.

SPINDLE WASHER

NOTE: After tightening, use a drift to
stake the spindle nut shoulder against

the spindle.

Rear Suspension

Hub Bearing Unit Replacement (cont'd)

1. Raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it with

safety stands in proper locations (see 

section 1

).

2. Remove the rear wheel.

3. Remove the hub cap, then pry the spindle nut lock

tab away from the spindle, and loosen the nut.

NOTE: Take care not to damage the hub

Replace.

NOTE: After tightening, use a drift to

stake the spindle nut shoulder against
the spindle.

4. Remove the brake hose mounting bolt.

CAUTION: To prevent accidental damage to the
caliper assembly or brake hose, use a short piece of
wire to hang the caliper assembly from the under-
carriage.

CALIPER ASSEMBLY

(2.2 kgf-m, 16 Ibf-ft)

Remove the caliper bracket mounting bolts, and
hang the caliper assembly to one side.

6. Remove the 6 mm brake disc retaining screws.

BRAKE DISC

8 x 12 mm

BOLTS

7. Screw two 8 x 12 mm bolts into the disc to push it

away from the hub. Remove the brake disc.

NOTE: Turn each bolt two turns at a time to pre-

vent cocking the disc excessively.

8. Remove the hub bearing unit from the knuckle.

HUB BEARING UNIT

NOTE: Wash the bearing and spindle thoroughly in
high flash point solvent before reassembly.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Tighten the new spindle nut to the specified torque,
then stake the spindle nut shoulder against the

spindle.

Suspension Arms Removal/Inspection

CAUTION:

• Replace the self-locking nuts after removal.

• Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot.

NOTE:

• The ball joint remover will interfere with the lower arm when removing the lower arm. To prevent interference, remove

the beam's pivot bolts before installing the ball joint remover.

• The ball joint remover will interfere with the brake hose bracket when removing the upper arm. To prevent interfer-

ence, remove the brake hose bracket before installing the ball joint remover.
