Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning will

Collision warning

To warn the driver of an approaching
vehicle from the rear left/right side of your
vehicle, the side view mirror will blink and
a warning will appear on the cluster. At
the same time, an audible warning will
sound. If Rear View Monitor is operating,
a warning will also appear on the
infotainment screen.

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning will
operate when the following conditions
are satisfied:
• Your vehicle gear is shifted to R

(Reverse)

• Your vehicle speed is below 5 mph (8

km/h)

• The approaching vehicle is within

approximately 82 feet (25 m) from the
left or right side of your vehicle

• The speed of the vehicle approaching

from the left or right side is above 3
mph (5 km/h)

NOTICE

If the operating conditions are satisfied,
there will be a warning whenever the
vehicle approaches from the left or right
side even though your vehicle speed is 0
mph (0 km/h).

the detecting performance and tempo

if necessary, depress the brake pedal

to reduce driving speed or to stop the
vehicle.

• Never deliberately test Rear Cross-

Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist on
people, animal, objects, etc. It may
cause serious injury or death.

CAUTION

The brake control may not operate
properly depending on the status of ESC
(Electronic Stability Control). There will
only be a warning when:
• The ESC (Electronic Stability

Control) warning light is on

• ESC (Electronic Stability Control)

is engaged in a different function

NOTICE

The driver must immediately depress
the brake pedal and check vehicle sur

• Reverse Parking Distance

Warning may malfunction when:

- Driving on uneven road, gravel

roads or bushes

- Objects that generate ultrasonic

waves such as vehicle horns, loud
motorcycle engine sound or truck
air brakes are near the sensor

- Heavy rain or water spray is pres

ent

- Wireless transmitters or mobile

phones are present near the sensor

- The sensor is covered with snow
- Affected by another vehicle's sen

sors

- Water flows on the surface of the

sensor

- Installing the license plate differ

ently from the original location

- The vehicle bumper height or sen

sor installation has been modified.

- Any non-factory equipment or

accessories have been installed.

• The function will operate normally

when such foreign matters are

• The following objects may not be

detected:

- Sharp or slim objects, such as

ropes, chains or small poles

- Objects, which tend to absorb sen

sor frequency, such as clothes,
spongy material or snow

- Objects smaller than 40 inches

Hazard warning flasher

The hazard warning flasher serves as a
warning to other drivers to exercise
extreme caution when approaching,
overtaking, or passing your vehicle.

It should be used whenever emergency
repairs are being made or when the
vehicle is stopped near the edge of a
roadway.

Press the flasher switch with the ignition
switch or ENGINE START/STOP button
in any position. The flasher switch is in
the center console switch panel. All turn
signal lights will flash simultaneously.
• The hazard warning flasher operates

whether your vehicle is running or not.

• The turn signals do not work when the

hazard flasher is on.

• Care must be taken when using the

hazard warning flasher while the vehi

cle is being towed.

In case of an emergency while

crossing, set the shift lever in the N
(Neutral) position and then push the
vehicle to a safe place.

If you have a flat tire while driv

ing

If a tire goes flat while you are driving:
1. Take your foot off the accelerator

pedal and let the vehicle slowdown
while driving straight ahead.

Do not apply the brakes immediately
or attempt to pull off the road as this
may cause a loss of control. When the
vehicle has slowed down to such a
speed that it is safe to do so, brake
carefully and pull off the road. Drive off
the road as far as possible and park
on a firm level ground. If you are on a
divided highway, do not park in the
median area between the two traffic
lanes.

2. When the vehicle is stopped, turn on

your emergency hazard flashers, set
the parking brake and put the trans

mission in P (for Intelligent Variable
Transmission) or in reverse (for Man

ual Transmission).

3. Have all passengers exit the vehicle.

Be sure they all get out on the side of
the vehicle that is away from traffic.

4. When changing a flat tire, follow the

instruction provided later in this sec

tion.

dims or goes out when you operate
the starter, the battery is discharged.

4. Check the starter connections to be

sure they are securely tightened.

5. Do not push or pull the vehicle to start

it. See instructions for "Jump starting"
on page 7-5.

If the engine will not start, do not push or
pull the vehicle to start it. This could
result in a collision or cause other dam

age. In addition, push or pull starting may
cause the catalytic converter to be
overloaded and create a fire hazard.

1. Make sure the booster battery is 12-

volt and that its negative terminal is
grounded.

2. If the booster battery is in another

vehicle, do not allow the vehicles to
come into contact.

3. Turn off all unnecessary electrical

loads.

4. Connect the jumper cables in the

exact sequence shown in the illustra

tion. First connect one end of a
jumper cable to the positive terminal
of the discharged battery (1), then
connect the other end to the positive
terminal on the booster battery (2).

Proceed to connect one end of the
other jumper cable to the negative
terminal of the booster battery (3), then
the other end to a ground - a solid,
stationary, metallic point (for example,
the engine lifting bracket) away from
the battery (4). Do not con

nect it to or

near any part that moves when the
engine is cranked.

Do not allow the jumper cables to
contact anything except the correct
battery terminals or the correct
ground. Do not lean over the battery
when making connections.

CAUTION

negative terminal of the booster bat

to the negative terminal of the dis

charged battery. This can cause the
discharged battery to overheat and
crack, releasing battery acid. Make sure
to connect one end of the jumper cable to

5. Start the engine of the vehicle with

the booster battery and let it run at
2,000 rpm, then start the engine of
the vehicle with the discharged bat

tery.

If the cause of your battery discharging
is not apparent, you should have your
vehicle checked by an authorized Kia
dealer.

Push-starting

Your manual transmission-equipped
vehicle should not be push-started
because it might damage the emission
control system.

Vehicles equipped with Dual Clutch
Transmission/IVT cannot be push-
started.

Follow the directions in this section for
jump-starting.

W ARNING

Never tow a vehicle to start it because
the sudden surge forward when the
engine starts could cause a collision with
the tow vehicle.

What to do in an emergency

If the engine overheats

If your temperature gauge indicates
overheating, experience a loss of power,
or hear loud pinging or knocking, the
engine is probably too hot. If this hap

pens, you should:

1. Pull off the road and stop as soon as it

is safe to do so.

2. Place the shift lever in P (Park) (for

Dual Clutch Transmission/IVT or in N
(Neutral) (for Manual Transmission)
and set the parking brake. If the air
conditioning is on, turn it off.

3. If engine coolant is leakingrunning

under the vehicle or steam is coming
from the hood, stop the engine. Do not
open the hood until the coolant has
stopped leaking or the steam has
stopped. If there is no visible loss of
engine coolant and no steam, leave
the engine running and check to be
sure the engine cooling fan is operat

ing. If the fan is not operating, turn the
engine off.

4. Check to see if the water pump drive

belt is missing. If it is not missing,
check to see that it is tight.

If the drive belt seems to be satisfac

tory, check for coolant leaking from
the radiator, hoses or under the vehi

cle. (If the air conditioning had been in
use, it is normal for cold water to be
draining from it when you stop).

While the engine is running,

belts to prevent injury.

cap when the engine is hot.
This may result in coolant
blowing out of the opening
and cause serious burns.

5. If the water pump drive belt is broken

or engine coolant is leaking out, stop
the engine immediately and call the
nearest authorized Kia dealer for
assistance.

6. If you cannot find the cause of the

overheating, wait until the engine
temperature has returned to normal.
If coolant has been lost, carefully add
coolant to the reservoir to bring the
fluid level in the reservoir up to the
halfway mark.

7. Proceed with caution, keeping alert

for further signs of overheating. If
overheating reoccurs, call an autho

rized Kia dealer for assistance.

CAUTION

• Loss of coolant indicates there is a

leak in the cooling system and this
should be checked as soon as possi

ble by an authorized Kia dealer.

• When the engine overheats from low

engine coolant, suddenly adding
engine coolant may cause cracks in
the engine. Add engine coolant slowly
in small quantities to prevent damage.

Each tire, including the spare (if pro

vided), should be checked monthly
when cold and inflated to the inflation
pressure recommended by the vehicle
manufacturer on the vehicle placard or
tire inflation pressure label.

(If your vehicle has tires of a different
size than the size indicated on the vehi

cle placard or tire inflation pressure
label, you should determine the proper
tire inflation pressure for those tires.)

As an added safety feature, your vehicle
has been equipped with a tire pressure
monitoring system (TPMS) that illumi

nates a low tire pressure telltale when one
or more of your tires is significantly under-
inflated. Accordingly, when the low tire
pressure telltale illuminates, you should
stop and check your tires as soon as
possible, and inflate them to the proper
pressure. Driving on a signifi

cantly

under-inflated tire causes the tire to
overheat and can lead to tire failure.
Under-inflation also reduces fuel effi

ciency and tire tread life, and may affect
the

vehicle’s handling and stopping abil

ity.

Please note that the TPMS is not a sub

stitute for proper tire maintenance, and it
is the

driver’s responsibility to maintain

correct tire pressure, even if under-infla

tion has not reached the level to trigger
illumination of the TPMS low tire pres

sure telltale.

with a TPMS malfunction indicator to
indicate when the system is not operat

pressure telltale. When the system
detects a malfunction, the telltale will
flash for approximately one minute and
then remain continuously illuminated.
This sequence will continue upon subse

quent vehicle start-ups as long as the
malfunction exists. When the malfunc

tion indicator is illuminated, the system
may not be able to detect or signal low
tire pressure as intended.

TPMS malfunctions may occur for a vari

ety of reasons, including the installation
of replacement or alternate tires or wheels
on the vehicle that prevent the TPMS
from functioning properly. Always check
the TPMS malfunction telltale after
replacing one or more tires or wheels on
your vehicle to ensure that the
replacement or alternate tires and wheels
allow the TPMS to continue to function
properly.

NOTICE

If the TPMS, Low Tire Pressure indicator
does not illuminate for 3 seconds when
the ignition switch or ENGINE START/
STOP button is turned to the ON posi

tion, or if it they remain illuminated after
coming on for approximately 3 seconds,
take your vehicle to your nearest autho

rized Kia dealer and have the system
checked.

Low tire pressure telltale

When the TPMS warning indicators are
illuminated and warning message dis

played on the instrument cluster LCD
display, one or more of your tires is sig

nificantly under-inflated.

If the telltale illuminates, immediately
reduce your speed, avoid hard cornering
and anticipate increased stopping dis

tances. Stop and check your tires as
soon as possible.

Inflate the tires to the proper pressure as
indicated on the

vehicle’s placard or tire

inflation pressure label located on the
driver’s side center pillar outer panel. If
you cannot reach a service station or if
the tire cannot hold the newly added air,
replace the low pressure tire with the
spare tire.

The TPMS malfunction indicator and the
Low Tire Pressure telltale may turn on
and illuminate after restarting and about
20 minutes of continuous driving before
you have the low pressure tire repaired
and replaced on the vehicle.

In winter or cold weather, the low tire
pressure telltale may be illuminated if

ommended tire inflation pressure in warm
weather. It does not mean your TPMS is
malfunctioning because the decreased
temperature leads to a pro

portional

lowering of tire pressure.

When you drive your vehicle from a warm
area to a cold area or from a cold area to
a warm area, or the outside tem

perature

is much higher or lower, check the tire
inflation pressure and adjust the tires to
the recommended tire inflation pressure.

When filling tires with more air, condi

tions to turn off the low tire pressure tell

tale may not be met. This is because a
tire inflator has a margin of error in per

formance. The low tire pressure telltale
will turn off if the tire pressure is above the
recommended tire inflation pressure.

W ARNING

Low pressure damage
Do not drive on low pressure tires. Sig

nificantly low tire pressure can cause the
tires to overheat and fail making the
vehicle unstable and result in increased
braking distances and a loss of control.

TPMS malfunction indicator

The low tire pressure telltale will illumi

nate after it blinks for approximately one
minute when there is a problem with the
TPMS. If the system correctly detects an
underinflation warning at the same time
as a system failure then it will illuminate
both the TPMS malfunction and low tire
pressure position telltales (e.g., if Front
Left sensor fails, the TPMS malfunction
indicator illuminates, but if the Front
Right, Rear Left, or Rear Right tire is
under-inflated, the low tire pressure

position telltales may illuminate together
with the TPMS malfunction indicator).

Have the system checked by an autho

rized Kia dealer as soon as possible.
• The TPMS malfunction indicator may

be illuminated if the vehicle is moving
around electric power supply cables or
radios transmitters such as at police
stations, government and pub

lic

offices, broadcasting stations, mili

tary installations, airports, or
transmitting towers, etc. This can
interfere with normal operation of the
TPMS.

• The TPMS malfunction indicator may

be illuminated if snow chains are used
or a separate electronic device such
as a notebook computer, mobile char

ger, remote starter or navigation etc., is
used in the vehicle. This can inter

fere

with normal operation of the TPMS.

Changing a tire with TPMS

If you have a flat tire, the Low Tire Pres

sure telltale will come on. Have the flat
tire repaired by an authorized Kia dealer
as soon as possible or replace the flat tire
with the spare tire.

CAUTION

Repair Agents
Never use a puncture-repairing agent
not approved by Kia to repair and/or
inflate a low pressure tire. A sealant not
approved by Kia may damage the tire
pressure sensor.

Each wheel is equipped with a tire pres

sure sensor mounted inside the tire
behind the valve stem. You must use
TPMS specific wheels. Always have
your tires serviced by an authorized Kia
dealer.

Even if you replace the low pressure tire
with the spare tire, the Low Tire Pressure
telltale will remain on until the low pres

sure tire is repaired and placed on the
vehicle.

After you replace the low pressure tire
with the spare tire, the TPMS malfunc

tion indicator may illuminate after a few
minutes because the TPMS sensor
mounted on the spare wheel is not acti

vated..

Once the low pressure tire is inflated to
the recommended pressure and installed
on the vehicle or the TPMS sen

sor

mounted on the replaced spare wheel is
by an authorized Kia dealer, the TPMS
malfunction indicator and the low tire
pressure telltale will turn off within a few
minutes of driving.

If the indicator has not disappeared after a
few minutes of driving, please visit an
authorized Kia dealer.

If an original mounted tire is replaced with
the spare tire, the TPMS sensor on the
replaced spare wheel should be and the
TPMS sensor on the original mounted
wheel should be deactivated. If the
TPMS sensor on the original mounted
wheel located in the spare tire carrier still
activates, the tire pressure monitoring
system may not operate properly. Have
the tire with TPMS ser

viced or replaced

by an authorized Kia dealer.

You may not be able to identify a low
pressure tire by simply looking at it.
Always use a good quality tire pressure
gauge to measure the tire's inflation
pressure. A tire that is hot (from being
driven) will have a higher pressure mea

surement than a tire that is cold (sitting
stationary for at least 3 hours driven less
than 1 mile (1.6 km) during that 3 hour
period).

Allow the tire to cool before measuring
the inflation pressure. Always be sure
the tire is cold before inflating to the rec

ommended pressure.

A cold tire means the vehicle has been
sitting for 3 hours or driven for less than 1
mile (1.6 km) in that 3 hour period.

Never use tire sealant if your vehicle is
equipped with a TPMS. A liquid sealant
not approved by Kia may damage the
tire pressure sensors.
• The TPMS cannot alert you to

severe and sudden tire damage
caused by external factors such as
nails or road debris.

• If you feel any vehicle instability,

immediately take your foot off the
accelerator, apply the brakes gradu

ally and with light force, and slowly
move to a safe position off the road.

NOTICE

Protecting TPMS
Tampering with, modifying, or disabling
the (TPMS) components may interfere
with the system's ability to warn the driver
of low tire pressure conditions and/or
TPMS malfunctions. Tampering with,
modifying, or disabling the (TPMS)
components may void the warranty for
that portion of the vehicle.
