Standard tip clearance: 0.180 to 0.300 mm (0.00709 to 0.0118 in.)  

Maximum tip clearance: 0.300 mm (0.0118 in.)  

If the tip clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the timing chain cover sub-
assembly

Check the side clearance

Using a feeler gauge and steel square, measure the clearance between the rotors and steel 
square as shown in the illustration  

Standard side clearance: 0.030 to 0.090 mm (0.00118 to 0.00354 in.)  

Maximum side clearance: 0.090 mm (0.00354 in.)  

If the side clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the timing chain cover sub-
assembly

Check the body clearance

Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the timing chain cover and driven rotor 
as shown in the illustration  

Standard body clearance: 0.175 to 0.250 mm (0.00689 to 0.00984 in.)  

Maximum body clearance: 0.250 mm (0.00984 in.)  

If the body clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the timing chain cover sub-
assembly  

REASSEMBLY

INSTALL OIL PUMP RELIEF VALVE 

a

Coat the oil pump relief valve with engine oil   

b

Install the relief valve and relief valve spring into the oil pump cover hole   

c

Install the plug  

Torque: 53 N*m (540 kgf*cm, 39 ft.*lbf)

INSTALL OIL PUMP COVER 

a

Install the driven rotor, drive rotor and oil pump cover with the 13 bolts  

Torque: 10 N*m (105 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf)

INSTALLATION

INSTALL WATER INLET PIPE 

a

Apply soapy water to 2 new O-rings and install them to the inlet pipe   

b

Install the inlet pipe to the No  1 heat exchanger cover

INSTALL TIMING CHAIN COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

a

Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new oil pump gasket

Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring

Install the O-ring

Apply seal packing in a continuous line to the timing chain cover as shown in the following 
illustration
