4. Inspect the valve lash adjusters for the following conditions: 

Excessive wear  

Clogging of the oil passage  

Damage  

Collapsed or spongy  

CYLINDER HEAD DISASSEMBLE 

Tools Required 

J 8062 Valve Spring Compressor. See Special Tools.  

J 42037 Valve Spring Compressor Adapter. See Special Tools.  

J 38820 Valve Stem Seal Remover/Installer. See Special Tools.

1. Remove the spark plugs.

2. Remove the A.I.R. injection pipe cover studs.  

3. Remove the A.I.R. injection pipe cover and gasket.

4. Use J 8062 (2) and J 42037 (1) to compress the valve spring. See Special Tools. 

IMPORTANT: Organize the valve train components when disassembling so 

they can be reassembled in the same location and matched 
up with the same components as previously installed.
