ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION 

 

2009 Toyota Tundra 

2009 ENGINE Cooling (3UR-FBE) - Tundra

  

 

 

 

 

 

   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1. INSPECT WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY 

a. Visually check the air hole and drain hole for coolant leakage. 

If leakage is found, replace the water pump.

b. Turn the pulley and check that the water pump bearing moves smoothly and quietly. If necessary, 

replace the water pump.

REMOVAL 

1. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER (See REPLACEMENT )  

2. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (See REPLACEMENT )  

3. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )  

4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER HOSE ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )  

5. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )  

6. DISCONNECT INLET RADIATOR HOSE  

7. DISCONNECT OUTLET RADIATOR HOSE  

8. REMOVE FAN SHROUD (See REMOVAL )  

9. REMOVE NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS HOSE (See REMOVAL )

10. DISCONNECT WATER BY-PASS PIPE (w/ Oil Cooler) 

a. Disconnect the No. 6 water by-pass hose.

b. Remove the 3 bolts.  

c. Disconnect the water by-pass pipe with water hose.  

11. REMOVE WATER INLET HOUSING 

a. Disconnect the No. 2 and No. 3 air hoses.

b. Disconnect the air pump connector.  

c. Disconnect the air pump connector clamp's holder.

d. Using a clip remover, detach the wire harness clamp.  

e. Disconnect the No. 5 water by-pass hose.

f. Remove the air tube bracket bolt.  

g. Remove the 3 bolts, water inlet housing and No. 3 water by-pass hose.

h. Remove the gasket from the water pump.  

12. REMOVE WATER PUMP PULLEY 

a. Using SST, hold the water pump pulley. 

SST 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000)  

b. Remove the 4 bolts and water pump pulley.
