Maintenance Under Severe Driving
Conditions (Annual Driving Distance > 30,000
km)

The maintenance intervals shown on the preceding pages are for normal operating conditions. If the vehicle
is mainly operated under severe driving conditions as shown below, more frequent maintenance must be
performed on the following items as shown in the table.

— Driving under dusty conditions

— Driving repeatedly short distances

— Towing a trailer or caravan

— Extensive idling

— Driving in extremely adverse weather con-

ditions or in areas where ambient tempera-
tures are either extremely low or extremely
high

— Driving in high humidity areas or in moun-

tainous areas

G — Driving in areas using salt or other corrosive

materials

— Driving on rough and/or muddy roads or in

the desert

— Driving with frequent use of braking or in

mountainous areas

— Frequent off road use or driving in water

— Sustained high speed driving

— Low quality lubricants or fuel

RECOMMENDED FLUIDS AND LUBRICANTS

SAE Viscosity Number

For warm and cold areas: 10W-30 is suit-
able. The use of 5W-30 can have a positive
effect on fuel economy (ACEA A1-98).

●

For hot areas: 20W-40 and 20W-50 are suit-
able.

●

For cold and warm areas: 10W-30 is prefer-
able for ambient temperatures above −20°C
(−4°F).

●

On turbocharger models, 5W-20 is not
recommended, and 5W-30 should be used
only below 0°C (32°F).

●

For hot areas: 20W-40 and 20W-50 are suit-
able.

Checking Drive Belts

1. Inspect belt for cracks, fraying, wear and oil. If necessary,

replace.

2. Inspect drive belt deflection or tension at a point on the belt

midway between pulleys.

●

Inspect drive belt deflection or tension when engine is
cold.

●

Adjust if belt deflection exceeds the limit or if belt ten-
sion is not within specifications.

●

Turn crankshaft two revolutions and recheck drive belt
deflection or tension.
