ERA-GLONASS*

E00804800050

ERA-GLONASS is a system designed to re-
duce  the  severity  of  accidents.  The  location
and  vehicle  information  is  transmitted  from
the  system  to  the  emergency  call  centre  in
case of an accident or sudden illness, and the
emergency  call  centre  arranges  for  despatch
of emergency vehicles as required.

WARNING

l

In  the  country  or  area  where  there  is  no
available  emergency  call  centre  of  the
ERA-GLONASS, or where the radio wave
of the emergency call cannot be transmit-
ted or received normally, the system does
not operate. In this case, directly arrange
an emergency vehicle or road service with
a cellular phone, etc.

l

If  an  emergency  occurs  and  you  notice  a
fuel smell or bad smell, do not stay inside
the vehicle and escape to a safe place im-
mediately.

l

While  waiting  for  the  rescue  after  the
emergency call, take action to prevent sec-
ondary accidents such as a rear end colli-
sion with the following vehicle, and escape
to a safe place.

l

In the following cases, directly arrange an
emergency  vehicle  or  road  service  with  a
cellular phone, etc.

When  the  system  does  not  operate  by
failing because of collision, etc.

WARNING

When the vehicle is in a place where ra-
dio  waves  cannot  be  transmitted  and
received.  (for  example,  indoor,  a  base-
ment  parking  area,  mountainous  area,
inside a tunnel, etc.)

When  the  line  to  the  emergency  call
centre  is  occupied  and  the  call  cannot
be connected to the emergency call cen-
tre.

NOTE

l

This  system  reports  to  the  emergency  call
centre,  but  does  not  directly  arrange  an
emergency vehicle or pass to the road serv-
ice.

l

This  system  helps  to  maken  an  emergency
call  for  a  traffic  accident  or  sudden  illness,
but  does  not  have  a  function  to  protect  the
occupants.

WARNING

l

Do not remove or install the above parts.
This can cause failure of contact or equip-
ment,  and  the  system  may  not  operate
normally.

1. After  setting  the  ignition  switch  or  the

operation  mode  to  “ON”,  the  red  lamp
(A)  and  the  green  lamp  (B)  illuminate
for approximately 10 seconds. When ap-
proximately 10 seconds have elapsed af-
ter the lamps extinguish, the system is in
the standby state.

WARNING

l

If the red lamp and/or the green lamp do
not  illuminate  after  setting  the  ignition
switch  or  the  operation  mode  to  “ON”,
there  is  a  possible  failure  in  the  system.
Have  the  system  inspected  by  a
MITSUBISHI

MOTORS

Authorized

Service Point immediately.

l

If the red lamp remains illuminated or il-
luminates  again  after  approximately  20
seconds has elapsed after setting the igni-
tion  switch  or  the  operation  mode  to
“ON”,  there  is  a  possible  failure  in  the
system or the battery for exclusive use of
the  ERA-GLONASS  may  be  exhausted.
The battery life is approximately 3 years.
Have  the  system  inspected  or  the  battery
replaced  by  a  MITSUBISHI  MOTORS
Authorized Service Point immediately.

l

When  the  system  is  not  in  the  standby
state,  the  system  does  not  operate.  When
you  drive,  make  sure  to  check  that  the
system is in the standby state.

2. The system operates as follows.

[Automatic Report]
When  the  vehicle  receives  an  impact
above a certain level.

NOTE

l

Depending on the level of impact or the an-
gle of the collision, the system may not op-
erate.

[Manual Report]
When you open the cover (C) and press
the SOS switch (D).

WARNING

l

Before  pressing  the  SOS  switch,  stop  the
vehicle  in  a  safe  place.  If  you  operate  it
while  driving,  your  attention  to  the  sur-
rounding  circumstances  becomes  insuffi-
cient, enough to cause an unexpected acci-
dent.

CAUTION

l

Do  not  open  the  cover  except  when  you
press  the  SOS  switch.  You  may  press  the
SOS  switch  by  mistake.  In  addition,  if  the
cover is opened while driving, the cover can
cause injury in case of an emergency.

NOTE

l

Do not press the SOS switch except in case
an emergency such as an accident or sudden
illness.  When  an  emergency  vehicle,  etc.  is
despatched  for  mischief,  the  applicable  cost
may be charged.

it to the shoulder and use the hazard warning
flashers and/or the warning triangle etc.
Refer to “Hazard warning flasher switch” on
page 5-21.

If the engine stops/fails

Vehicle operation and control are affected if
the  engine  stops.  Before  moving  the  vehicle
to a safe area, be aware of the following:

l

The  brake  booster  becomes  inoperative
and  the  pedal  effort  will  increase.  Press
down the brake pedal harder than usual.

l

Since  the  power  steering  system  is  no
longer operative, the steering wheel feels
heavy when turning it.

If the operation mode
cannot be changed to OFF
(vehicles equipped with the
keyless operation system)

E00804900077

If  the  operation  mode  cannot  be  changed  to
OFF, perform the following procedure.

1. Move  the  selector  lever  to  the  “P”

(PARK)  position,  and  then  change  the
operation  mode  to  OFF.  (For  vehicles
with A/T)

2. One  of  the  other  causes  could  be  low

battery  voltage.  If  this  occurs,  the  key-
less  entry  system,  keyless  operation
function  and  steering  lock  will  also  not
operate.  Contact  a  MITSUBISHI
MOTORS Authorized Service Point.

Emergency starting

E00800504132

If  the  engine  cannot  be  started  because  the
battery is weak or dead, the battery from an-
other vehicle can be used with jumper cables
to start the engine.

WARNING

l

To  start  the  engine  using  jumper  cables
connected  from  another  vehicle,  perform
the  correct  procedures  according  to  the
instruction  below.  Incorrect  procedures
could result in a fire or explosion or dam-
age to the vehicles.

l

Keep  sparks,  cigarettes  and  flames  away
from the battery because the battery may
produce an explosion.

CAUTION

l

Do not attempt to start the engine by pulling
or pushing the vehicle.
It could damage your vehicle.

l

Check the other vehicle. It must have a 12-
volt battery.
If the other system isn’t 12-volt, shorting can
damage both vehicles.

l

Use the proper cables suitable for the battery
size to prevent overheating of the cables.

l

Check  the  jumper  cables  for  damage  and
corrosion before use.

l

Always  wear  protective  eye  goggles  when
working near the battery.

l

Keep the battery out of the reach of children.

1. Get  the  vehicles  close  enough  so  the

jumper cables can reach, but be sure the
vehicles aren’t touching each other.

3. Set the parking brake firmly on each ve-

hicle.  Put  an  automatic  transmission  in
“P” (PARK) or a manual transmission in
“N” (Neutral). Stop the engine.

WARNING

l

Turn off the ignition on both vehicles be-
forehand.  Make  sure  that  the  cables  or
your  clothes  cannot  be  caught  by  the  fan
or drive belt. Personal injury could result.

4. Make  sure  battery  electrolyte  is  at  the

proper level.
Refer to “Battery” on page 10-10.

WARNING

l

If  electrolyte  fluid  is  not  visible,  or  ap-
pears to be frozen, Do Not Attempt Jump
Starting!
A battery might rupture or explode if the
temperature is below the freezing point or
if it is not filled to the proper level.

l

Electrolyte  is  corrosive  diluted  sulphuric
acid.
If  electrolyte  (battery  acid)  comes  into
contact with your hands, eyes, clothes and
the  painted  surface  of  your  vehicle,  it
should  be  thoroughly  flushed  with  water.
If electrolyte gets in your eyes, flush them
with  water  immediately  and  thoroughly,
and get prompt medical attention.

5. Connect one end of one jumper cable

to  the  positive  (+)  terminal  of  the  dis-
charged  battery  (A),  and  the  other  end

to  the  positive  (+)  terminal  of  the

booster battery (B).
Connect one end of the other jumper ca-
ble   to the negative (−) terminal of the
booster battery (B), and the other end
to  the  engine  block  of  the  vehicle  with
the  discharged  battery  at  the  point  far-
thest from the battery.

NOTE

l

Open  the  terminal  cover  before  connecting
the jumper cable to the positive (+) terminal
of the battery.
(Refer to “Battery” on page 10-10.)

WARNING

l

Make sure that the connection

 is made

to the appointed position (shown in the il-
lustration).  If  the  connection  is  made  di-
rectly  to  the  negative  (−)  side  of  the  bat-
tery,  the  inflammable  gases  generated
from the battery might catch fire and ex-
plode.

l

When  connecting  the  jumper  cables,  do
not  connect  the  positive  (+)  cable  to  the
negative  (−)  terminal.  Otherwise  sparks
might cause explosion of the battery.

CAUTION

l

Take care not to get the jumper cable caught
in  the  cooling  fan  or  other  rotating  part  in
the engine compartment.

6. Start the engine in the vehicle which has

the booster battery, let the engine idle a
few minutes, then start the engine in the
vehicle with the discharged battery.

CAUTION

l

Keep the engine of the vehicle giving assis-
tance running.

Go (AS&G) system, press the “Auto Stop &
Go  (AS&G)  OFF”  switch  to  deactivate  the
Auto  Stop  &  Go  (AS&G)  system  and  pre-
vent the engine from automatically stopping
before the battery is sufficiently charged.
Refer to “To deactivate” on page 6-26.

7. After  the  engine  is  started,  disconnect

the cables in the reverse order and keep
the engine running for several minutes.

NOTE

l

If the vehicle is put in motion without fully
charging the battery, it might cause the loss
of the smooth engine operation and the anti-
lock brake warning lamp to illuminate.
Refer to “Anti-lock brake system (ABS)” on
page 6-56.

Engine overheating

E00800604117

When  the  engine  is  overheating,  “ ”  will
blink.
If  this  occurs,  take  the  following  corrective
measures:

1. Stop the vehicle in a safe place.
2. Check whether steam is coming from the

engine compartment.

[If steam does not come from the engine
compartment]
With  the  engine  still  running,  raise  the
bonnet  to  ventilate  the  engine  compart-
ment.

NOTE

l

For vehicles equipped with the Auto Stop &
Go (AS&G) system, press the “Auto Stop &
Go  (AS&G)  OFF”  switch  to  deactivate  the
Auto  Stop  &  Go  (AS&G)  system  before
stopping the vehicle.
Refer to “To deactivate” on page 6-26.

[If  steam  is  coming  from  the  engine
compartment]
Stop  the  engine,  and  when  the  steam
stops,  raise  the  bonnet  to  ventilate  the
engine compartment. Restart the engine.

WARNING

l

Do  not  open  the  bonnet  while  steam  is
coming  from  the  engine  compartment.  It
could  cause  steam  or  hot  water  to  spurt
out, causing burns. Hot water could spurt
out  even  when  there  is  no  steam  coming
out,  and  some  parts  will  be  very  hot.  Be
very careful when opening the bonnet.

l

Be  careful  of  hot  steam,  which  could  be
blowing off the reserve tank cap.

WARNING

l

Do  not  attempt  to  remove  the  radiator
cap while the engine is hot.

3. Confirm that the cooling fan (A) is turn-

ing.
[If the cooling fan is turning]
After the high coolant temperature warn-
ing has gone off, stop the engine.
