FUEL TANK

.

The fuel tank assembly consists of the following
components:

Fuel high-pressure hose

Fuel tank

Fuel tank leveling valve

Fuel tank differential pressure sensor

Fuel tank shut-off valve

Fuel level sensor (sub)

Fuel pump module

.

The fuel pump module consists of the following com-
ponents:

Fuel pump

Fuel level sensor

Fuel filter

Fuel pump pressure regulator

Fuel tank temperature sensor

.

A steel fuel tank is located under the floor of the rear
seats to provide increased safety and increase the
amount of luggage compartment space.

By combining the fuel pump and fuel filter in a
single unit, fewer hose bonding points are used,
reliability with regard to fuel leaks is improved,
and the weight is lightened.

A larger fuel tank {67 dm

3

 (17.7 gal)} enables

longer driving ranges.

The fuel cut-off valve, fuel check valve, and fuel
tube have been installed using in-tank construc-
tion to reduce the amount of evaporated fuel from
hoses.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

M2132000100354

The basic design is the same as that for the 2.4 L
engine installed in the LANCER WAGON except that
the following modifications have been incorporated:

IMPROVEMENT / ADDITION

REMARK

A non-contact accelerator pedal position sensor is used.

Improves durability and reliability.

A fuel level sensor (sub) is used.

Along with the adoption of the saddle type
fuel tank, a fuel level sensor is provided in
each of the main and sub chambers of the
fuel tank.

A 130-pin powertrain control module is used.

Installed in engine room. Harness is
simplified.

Controller Area Network (CAN) is adopted.

Communication is assured.

With the adoption of the dual manifold catalytic converter
(MCC), the heated oxygen sensors are located in the
assembly of No. 1-No. 4 cylinders and No. 2-No. 3 cylinders.

Exhaust gas is reduced.

The fan control is changed.

The fan controller is eliminated. The high
and low relays control the fan motor.
