SMART WIRING SYSTEM (SWS) USING SWS MONITOR

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step 1. Check the SWS monitor customized 
function.

Use the SWS monitor customize function to confirm 
that "KEY-OFF TMR T" is set to "W/O FUNCTION".

• 30s

• 3min.

• 10min.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 2.

NO : 

Use the SWS monitor customize function to 
set the "KEY-OFF TMR T" to "W/O 
FUNCTION" (Refer to 

P.54C-574

).

Step 2. ECU check on the SWS monitor.

Check that the power supply and earth lines to the 
sunroof motor assembly (sunroof-ECU) and the 
ETACS-ECU and the SWS communication lines are 
normal.

• Ignition switch: OFF

• Operate the sunroof switch.

NOTE: Operate within the period set by using the 
customisation function after the ignition switch is 
turned off.

ECUS TO BE CHECKED

• ETACS ECU

• SUNROOF ECU

OK: "OK" are displayed for all the items

Q: Are the check result normal?

"OK" are displayed for all the items : 

Go to Step 3.

"NG" is displayed on the "ETACS ECU" menu. : 

Refer to Inspection Procedure A-3 
"Communication with the ETACS-ECU is 
not possible

"NG" is displayed on the "SUNROOF ECU" menu. : 

Refer to Inspection Procedure A-6 
"Communication with the sunroof motor 
assembly (sunroof-ECU) is not possible

Step 3. Function diagnosis by using the SWS 
monitor.

Check the SWS communication signal, which are 
related to the sunroof.

<Selected item> SUNROOF OPE

• Ignition switch: ON

OK: Normal condition is displayed.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 4.

NO : 

Replace the sunroof motor assembly.

Step 4. SWS monitor data list.

Check the SWS communication signal, which are 
related to the sunroof timer function.

<Selected item> ETACS-ECU

• Driver’s door switch: CLOSE to OPEN

OK: Normal condition is displayed.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 5.

NO : 

Refer to inspection procedure Q-5 "The 
driver's door switch signal is not received

Step 5. Retest the system.

Check that the sunroof timer function work normally.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

The trouble can be an intermittent

NO : 

Replace the sunroof motor assembly.

Inspection Procedure F-4: The sunroof inhibition function does not work normally (The sunroof 
operation lock warning buzzer does not sound).

CAUTION

Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the 
input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If the sunroof inhibition function does not work 
normally, the communication circuit, the power 
window lock switch input circuit, the sunroof motor 
assembly or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

• Malfunction of the power window main switch

• Malfunction of the sunroof motor assembly 

(sunroof ECU)

• Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU

• Damaged harness wires and connectors

Step 1. Which does not operate normally, the 
sunroof inhibition or the sunroof operation lock 
buzzer?

Q: Which does not operate normally, the sunroof 

inhibition or the sunroof operation lock buzzer?

The sunroof inhibition does not work normally. : 

Go to Step 2.

The sunroof operation lock buzzer does not work 
normally. : 

Go to Step 4.

Neither operates normally. : 

Go to Step 6.

Step 2. Check the operation condition of the 
sunroof.

Check that the sunroof works normally.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 3.

NO : 

Refer to Inspection Procedure F-1 "The 
sunroof does not work at all

Step 3. ECU check by using the SWS monitor.

Check that the power supply and earth lines to the 
ETACS-ECU and the sunroof motor assembly 
(incorporating sunroof-ECU) and the SWS 
communication lines are normal.

• Ignition switch: ON

• Operate the sunroof switch.

• Sunroof ECU

"OK" is displayed on the "SUNROOF ECU" 
menu.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Step 4. ECU check on the SWS monitor

Check that the power supply and earth lines to the 
ETACS-ECU the SWS communication lines is 
normal.

• Ignition switch: ON

menu.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 5.

NO :

Step 5. SWS monitor data list

Check the SWS communication signal, which are 
related to the sunroof operation lock buzzer.

<Selected item> S/R- REAR S/R LOCK

• Ignition switch: ON

• Power window lock switch :ON

• Operate the sunroof switch

OK: Normal conditions is displayed.

Q: Is the check result normal?

NO :

NO : 

Replace the ETACS.

Step 6. ECU check by using the SWS monitor

Check that the power supply and earth lines to the 
ETACS-ECU, the sunroof motor assembly 
(incorporating sunroof-ECU) and the power window 
main switch (power window module), and the SWS 
communication lines are normal.

• Ignition switch: ON

• Operate the sunroof switch.

OK: Normal conditions are displayed for all 
the items.
