ALL METERS, GAUGES, AND
ILLUMINATIONS

HINT : While carrying out the following inspection, make certain that the connectors and terminals are properly con-
nected.

Disconnect connector ”B” from meter.
Inspect connector on wire harness side as follows.

Replace circuit plate. Then recheck system.

SPEEDOMETER

Does not go out while starter running.

Speedometer does not operate while
driving

Wire harness faulty between terminal B16 of Meter
and ST fuse.

Turn ignition switch START.

Is there battery positive voltage between terminal and

ground or B16?

Does odometer operate while driving?

Does trip meter operate while driving?

Jack up the vehicle.

Turn ignition switch ON. Rotate propeller shaft.

Does the voltage between terminals C9 and C10 

change (approx. 0V to 11V or more) per revolution of

propeller shaft?

Disconnect connector ”C” from meter.
Inspect connector on wire harness side as follows.

HINT : While carrying out the following inspection, make certain that the connectors and terminals are properly con-
nected.

INSPECT TRIP METER OPERATION

INSPECT ODOMETER OPERATION

Replace speedometer.
Then recheck system.

Go to step 7–A

SPEEDOMETER

Replace circuit plate. Then recheck system.

Does odometer operate while driving?

Jack up the vehicle. Turn ignition switch ON.

Rotate propeller shaft. Does the voltage between

terminals C10 and ground change (approx. 0V to 5V

or more) per revolution of propeller shaft?

Disconnect connectors ”A” and ”C” from meter.
Inspect connector on wire harness side as follows.

HINT : While carrying out the following inspection, make certain that the connectors and terminals are properly con-
nected.

INSPECT ODOMETER OPERATION

See chart 18.



 ECM

HINT : While carrying out the following inspection, make certain that the connectors and terminals are properly con-
nected.

Replace circuit plate. Then recheck system.

Remove meter with connector connected.
Inspect connector ”C” from back side as follows.

Wire harness between terminal C10 of meter and*ECU

 faulty.



 Power Steering ECU

* : An electrical tester availble to measure frrequency
    is necessary for this inspection.
    REFERENCE : TOYOTA ELECTRICAL TESTER
                            (09082–00050)



 Suspension ECU



 ABS and TRAC ECU

With engine running, does voltage between terminals

A13 and C10 fluctuate?

Replace receiver gauge. Then recheck system.

Is there continuity (no resistance ) between terminal

D12 and ground?

Are speedometer and tachometer operating normally?

Replace combination

meter computer.

Then recheck system.



 Open circuit in wire

harness between terminal

 12 of meter and ground.



 Ground faulty.

Wire harness faulty between meter and sender gauge.

Replace sender gauge. Then recheck system.

Is operation normal?

Is resistance normal?

Replace combination meter computer.
Then recheck system.

meter computer.
Then recheck system.

Replace bulb.
Then recheck system.

Ground terminal D11 and turn ignition switch ON.
Does fuel level warning light up?

Replace circuit plate.

If operation is not as specified, replace the switch.
Then recheck system.

Wire harness faulty between terminal D11 of
meter and terminal 1 of sender gauge.

Temporarily install another circuit plate.
Is operation normal?
