stud and the 2 bottom studs are matched and fitted
to the crankcase holes for correct crankcase alignment. Mark these bolts
so that you can reinstall them into their original position.
4. See Figure 212 (1991-1992) or Figure 213 (1993-on). Remove the
crankcase bolts and studs.
5. Lay the crankcase assembly on wooden blocks with the right side
facing up.
6. Tap the crankcase with a plastic mallet and remove the right
crankcase half (Figure 214).
7. Remove the pinion shaft spiral lock ring (Figure 215).
8. Remove the needle bearing (Figure 216) from the pinion shaft.
WARNING Wear safety glasses when pressing out the crankshaft in Step 9.
9. Press the crankshaft out of the left crankcase half as follows:
a. Support the left crankcase half in a press on wooden blocks as shown
in Figure 217.
b. Center the press ram with the sprocket shaft,
then press the crankshaft out of the left crankcase half. Have an
assistant support the crankshaft as it is being pressed out.
CAUTION Do not remove the crankshaft by driving it out of the crankcase
half using a hammer.
10. To remove the outer sprocket shaft bearing assembly, perform the
following:
a. Pry the sprocket shaft spacer (Figure 218) out of the oil seal. See
Figure 219.
b. Carefully pry the oil seal (Figure 220) out of the left crankcase
half using a wide-blade screwdriver. Support the screwdriver with a rag
to prevent damaging the crankcase. See A, Figure 221.
c. Lift out the outer sprocket shaft bearing half (B, Figure 221).
