a. Inspection of Valve tappels. Inspect valve tappets for excessive clearance in guides. Also inspect tappet rollers for excessive bearing looseness and damaged roller faces. Tappets have 0.0005 to 0.001-inch normal clearance in guides, and it is recommended practice to install new tappet and roller and/or guide assembly when clearance exceeds 0.0025 inch.
