fig. 58 for collecting LPG in a liquid

state. It is toroidal and is located in the

spare wheel compartment with suitable

protection.

LPG tank certification

The LPG tank is certified in accordance

with the regulations in force. In Italy,

the tank has a life of 10 years starting

from the car registration date. If the

vehicle has been registered in a country

other than Italy, the duration and the

testing/inspection procedures of the

LPG tank can vary depending on the

national laws of that country. In all

case, when the time limit for your

country has expired, go to a Fiat

Dealership to have the tank replaced.
The tank identification data are printed

on the tank, under the multivalve unit:

type-approval country identification

and type-approval number;

type of gas it is designed for (LPG);

name of tank manufacturer;

tank commissioning pressure (30

bar);

maximum refilling percentage (80%);

tank dimensions;

rated tank capacity in litres;

tank manufacture date (month/year);

tank serial number.

SELECTION OF

pumps having different supply/locking

features, tank not completely run out of

fuel.

Italy) there are legal restrictions in force for

parking/ garaging motor vehicles fuelled

by gas that is denser than air; LPG comes

under this category.

to alter the configuration of the system

or its components. The use of other

malfunctions and lead to a reduction in

damage to the gas system parts when

towing or raising the car, follow the

instructions in the "Towing the car"

chapter of the Owner Handbook.

When painting in an oven, the LPG

tank must be removed from the car and

later refitted by a Fiat Dealership. Although

the LPG system has numerous safety

features, it is advisable to proceed as

follows every time the car is not in use for

a long period or moved in an emergency

as a result of a breakdown or accident:

unscrew the fastening devices (A) fig. 54,

then remove the cover (B). Close the LPG

cock by rotating the ring nut (C) fig. 55

clockwise. Refit the cover and retighten the

fastening devices.

If, during LPG operation, the fuel

runs out, the car switches to petrol

automatically and all the bars of the digital

indicator (B) fig. 57 the display switch off;

this displaying remains until the next LPG

refuelling.

Periodically (at least once every

six months), it is advisable to let the

LPG in the tank run out and, at the next

refuelling, check that it does not exceed

the maximum capacity of 30.5 litres

(reserve included) (with a tolerance of 2

litres in excess) (see instructions in the

"Capacities" chapter). If the level is above

30.5 litres (reserve included) contact a Fiat

Dealership immediately.

is requested, a metal noise from the

valves which pressurise the circuit can be

heard. As a result of the switching logics

described above, the delay between the

ticking of the valve and the switching off of

instrument panel is entirely normal.

as starting and operation at low ambient

temperature or LPG supply with low

propane content, the system may switch

temporarily to petrol operation, without

indicating the performed switching. In

the event of low LPG levels in the tank

or request for high performance (e.g.

overtaking, vehicle fully laden, steep hills),

the system may automatically switch to

petrol operation to guarantee the engine

power requested; the green warning

light

fig. 59 on the instrument panel

switches on to indicate this. When the

above conditions are no longer present,

the system automatically restores LPG

operation; the green warning light

fig. 59 switches off. To achieve the

automatic switching described above,

make sure that there is always enough fuel

in the petrol tank.

INTRODUCTION

The "Natural Power" version features

two fuel systems, one for petrol and

one for natural gas (methane).

WARNING If gas is smelled, switch

from methane operation to petrol

operation and immediately go to a Fiat

Dealership to have the vehicle checked

and possible system faults excluded.

SELECTION OF THE FUEL

SUPPLY TYPE

The car is configured for running

independently on either petrol or

methane.
The engine always starts up on petrol,

with automatic switching to methane

when the best conditions are achieved

(engine water temperature, minimum

engine rpm limit) for switching to

methane.
Therefore, there must always be some

petrol in the tank (at least 1/4 full), in

order not to compromise the operation

of the fuel pump.
In addition, it is advisable to periodically

use up the petrol in the tank (until the

reserve warning light comes on) in

order to ensure that the petrol does not

become old and possibly deteriorate.

METHANE CYLINDERS

The vehicle is equipped with two

cylinders (total capacity about 72 litres)

fig. 66 - fig. 67 located under the floor

of the vehicle and protected by two

special guards.

The methane, stored in the cylinders

at high pressure, flows through a

dedicated pipe to reach the pressure

regulator/reduction unit which supplies

the two methane injectors at low

pressure (about 9 bar).

Cylinder certification

The methane cylinders are certified in

accordance with ECE Regulation no.

110.
The cylinders must be inspected, in

accordance with ECE Regulation

Procedure no. 110, every 4 years

from the car registration date or in

accordance with specific regulations in

individual countries.
The plates provided by the Dealership

with the on board documentation

contain the date for the first inspection

of the cylinders. Methane refuelling

stations are not authorised to refill the

cylinders when the inspection date has

expired.

WARNING If the vehicle has been

registered in a country other than Italy,

the certification data, identification and

inspection procedures for the methane

cylinders should conform to the

legislation in that country. In any case,

remember that the life of the cylinders

is 20 years from the production date as

set out in ECE Regulation no. 110.

SELECTION OF

PETROL/METHANE

REFUELLING

Methane

Capacity: about 12 kg. The total

volume of cylinders is about 72 litres.
The amount of methane depends on

the outside temperature, the supply

pressure, the quality of the gas and the

type of refuelling system.
Remember that when using a fuel such

as methane the range is very variable

because it depends on the temperature

of the gas in the cylinder as well as

on the driving conditions and on car

maintenance.
The methane actually heats up during

the refuelling and cools down whilst

driving, undergoing variations in

pressure that reduce the quantity that

can be used. It should also be pointed

out that whilst the vehicle is being run

in (up to around 3000 km) the fuel

consumption may be higher than the

figures given.

The "Range", "Instant consumption"

and "Average consumption" readings

for the Trip Computer on the display

are not available, regardless of the

current supply.
All other indications for petrol and

methane supply are available: "Outside

Temp", “Travel Distance”, “Average

Speed” and “Travel time”.

WARNING In order to avoid

inconsistent information by the

methane gauge on the instrument

panel, it is recommended to refill with

at least 10 litres each time.

The Fiat Panda Natural Power is

equipped with a high pressure methane

fuel supply system, designed to operate

at a rated pressure of 200 bar. It is

dangerous to stretch the system with

higher pressures. To prevent damage to

the gas system parts when towing or

lifting the vehicle, follow the instructions

in the Owner Handbook, in the chapter:

“Towing the vehicle”. If there is a fault in

the methane system, only contact a Fiat

Dealership. Do not alter the methane

system configuration or components.

They are designed exclusively for the Fiat

Panda Natural Power. The use of other

components or materials could cause

malfunctions and prejudice safety.

When oven painting, the cylinders

must be removed from the vehicle and

The warning light switches on to

indicate that approximately 5 litres of

fuel are left in the reservoir. Do not

travel with the fuel tank almost empty:

the catalytic converter.

shifting gear will allow a reduction in

WARNING Warning lights are accompanied by a specific message and/or sound when implemented on the instrument panel.

These indications are indicative and precautionary and as such must not be considered as exhaustive and/or alternative to the

information contained in the Owner Handbook, which you are advised to read carefully in all cases. In the event of a failure

indication, always refer to the contents of this section.

WARNING The failure indicators appearing on the display are divided into two categories: very serious and less serious failures.

Serious faults are indicated by a repeated and prolonged warning "cycle". Less serious faults are indicated by a warning "cycle"

with a shorter duration. The display cycle of both categories can be interrupted by pressing the

button. The instrument panel

warning light will stay on until the cause of the malfunction is eliminated.

For permanent deactivation of the acoustic signal (buzzer) of the S.B.R. (Seat Belt Reminder) system contact

EBD FAILURE
The simultaneous switching on of the

(red),

(amber) and

(amber) warning lights with the engine

on, indicates either a fault of the EBD system or that the system is not available. In this case, the rear

wheels may suddenly lock and the vehicle may swerve when braking hard.

On certain versions a dedicated message is displayed.

Drive very carefully to the nearest Fiat Dealership to have the system inspected immediately.

AIRBAG FAILURE

When the ignition key is turned to MAR, the warning light switches on but should switch off after a few

seconds.

If the warning light turns on continuously, it indicates a fault in the airbag system. On certain versions a

dedicated message is displayed.
