1. Description of circuit
The pump motor is incorporated in the
BPMV and grounded through Terminal
D of EBCM.

2. Conditions for setting up
troubleshooting codes
C0018 can only be set up with the
ignition switch turned on. Pump motor is
instructed to be turned on and EBCM
detects the power source short circuit or
relatively high resistance on the pump
ground circuit.
3. Actions to be taken during setup of
troubleshooting codes

Switch off the solenoid valve relay and
cut off the power supply to pump motor
and solenoid valve.
Save troubleshooting code C0018.
Cut off ABS and turn on ABS alarm
lamp.

4. Conditions for clearing
troubleshooting codes
If the conditions for setting up
troubleshooting code C0018 are gone,
corresponding scanning tools can be
used to clear the troubleshooting code.
If the troubleshooting code does not
appear for 100 ignition cycles running, it
can be eliminated from the database.

5. Assistance to troubleshooting
Typical causes of troubleshooting code
C0018 include:
(1) Ground fault of Terminal D
(2) Ground fault and no voltage of
Terminal D
(3) Open ground circuit of Terminal D
(4) Overresistance of ground circuit of
Terminal D

(5) EBCM trouble

To
Step 2

To
Step 8

1. Shut off engine
2. Detach the EBCM wire harness from the EBCM
3. Connect one voltmeter between EBCM Terminal D and
car body ground circuit
4. Is the voltage within the range required?

Less
than 1V

To
Step 3

To
Step 9

1. Shut off engine
2. Detach the battery cable cathode
3. EBCM wire harness remains detached from the EBCM
4. Connect one ohmmeter between the battery cable cathode
and EBCM wire harness terminals
Is the measured resistance within the range required?

Less
than
2ohm

To
Step 4

To
Step
10

1. Check if the connection between battery cable cathode
and engine block and/or chasis is clean and fast.
2. Start from the EBCM wire harness Terminal D and go
along the wiring to find the grounding point on the chasis
and check if the connection is clean and fast.
Are the two connections clean and fast?

To
Step 5

To
Step
11

1. EBCM wire harness still remains detached from the
EBCM.
2. Unfix the EBCM from the BPMV.
3. Check if the connector between EBCM and BPMV
suffers any damage, rust, bad contact or overflowing brake
fluid.
Are the connectors and terminals all right? Is there any
brake fluid in the engine room? Is there any damage or rust.

To
Step 6

To
Step

Connect one ohmmeter between the BPMV Terminals 1 and
2.
Is the pump motor resistance within the range required?

Less
than
2ohm

Replace the EBCM

Check the diagnostic circuit.

Identify and repair the cause of ground fault of Terminal D

10

Identify and repair the cause of overresistance between
EBCM Terminal D ground circuit and car body ground
circuit.

11

Repair ground fault if necessary.

12

1. In the case of damage and/or rust, replace EBCM/BPMV
if necessary.
2. In the case of overflowing brake fluid, replace EBCM and
BPMV.

Replace the BPMV.

Four. C0021 Front left wheel speed sensor input signal = 0

Wheel speed sensor

Strad
dling

Car body wire harness

Gear
ring

1. Description of circuit
The wheel speed sensor will create an
AC voltage that increases with the
increase of wheel speed. EBCM then
calculates the wheel speed on the basis
of the AC signal frequency. The speed
sensor is connected to the EBCM by a
twisted pair which can reduce the noise
vulnerability of troubleshooting codes.

2. Conditions for setup of
troubleshooting codes
The following conditions will have to be
met for the setup of C0021:
C0032, C0033, C0034 or C0035 is not
current.
ABS does not work.
Braking switch is on.
Front left wheel speed is 0, and the
speeds of other wheels are bigger than
8km/h (5mile/h) for at least 2.5 seconds.

3. Actions to be taken for setup of
troubleshooting codes
The electromagnetic relay is turned off
and pump motor and solenoid are
disconnected with the power source.
Save DTC C0021.
ABS is disabled and ABS alarm lamp is
on.

4. Conditions for clearing
troubleshooting codes
If the conditions for setting up
troubleshooting code C0021 are gone,
corresponding scanning tools can be
used to clear the troubleshooting code.
If the troubleshooting code does not
appear for 100 driving cycles running, it
can be eliminated from the database.

5. Assistance to troubleshooting
In the case of any interrupted
troubleshooting code, please thoroughly

check the wiring and connectors, which
shall include:
(1) Unfix guard pipes and check if the
wiring is damaged, short circuited and
polluted.
(2) Check if the terminals are deformed
and/or damaged.
(3) Check the contact (fastness) of
terminals by the spare male/female
terminals.
(4) Check if the wire terminals are
correct by unfixing terminals from the
connector.
If the driver complains that the ABS
alarm lamp only illuminates when there
is a change in environment moisture
(rain, snow and car washing), please
thoroughly check if any wheel speed
sensor is soaked. If the troubleshooting
code is not current, then simulate the
impact of water soaking. Follow the
following steps: spray 5% brine on
suspected area. Then trial run the car at a
speed of over 24km/h (15m/h) on
various road surfaces (e.g. bumpy or
curved road, etc). If any troubleshooting
code appears, then replace the suspected
wire harness and/or sensor.
Make sure that the car is under room
temperature when measuring wheel
speed sensor resistance as the resistance
will increase with temperature rise.
Any failure in carefully and thoroughly
following the above steps will possibly
result in wrong diagnosis, unnecessary
component replacement and
reoccurrence of DTC0021.
