Note: Do not use the starter to start the engine or it may cause damage.  
(1) Check the air filter to see if the air intake system and air intake manifold is too dirty.  
(2) Disconnect the storage battery cathode. 
(3) Suck out the liquid on the spark plug with cloth 
(4) Take out all spark plugs and operate the crank shaft with a motor.  
(5) Distinguish the liquids in the cylinder (like cooling liquid, fuel, engine oil or others). 
(6) Take out all liquids from the cylinder and check for any damage of the engine 
(connecting rod, piston, valve, etc). 
(7) When repairing the engine or its components, avoid it if necessary.  
Note: pay attention to component lubrication during reinstalling.  
(8) Fix new spark plugs 
(9) Drain the engine oil and unfix the engine oil filter 
(10) Fix the new engine oil filter.  
(11) Fill in the engine oil of the original engine manufacturer.  
(12) Connect the storage battery cathode. 
(13) Start the engine and check for any leakage. 
 
 
 
Nine. Troubleshooting on engine cylinder gasket 
Appropriate surface treatment is necessary to ensure the sealing effect of the cylinder 
gasket, especially for the cylinder gaskets that use aluminum engine components or 
multiple metal layers.

Chapter Three Engine Control System 

 

Section One System Introduction 

 
One. System features 
The Tritec 1.6L engine control system adopted for Chery A15 series is based on Delphi MT20 
engine control module (ECM) and abbreviated as MT20 engine control system.  
Latest electronic hardware technology is adopted in the design of MT20 engine control module 
to realize relatively high price/performance ratio.  In terms of hardware, 16-digit microprocessor 
(CPU) is adopted to provide sufficient memory and high calculating speed and flexibly define 
I/O input and output diagnostic protocol. Second-generation control software in modulized C 
language is adopted. MT20 features all technical specifications necessary to satisfy the Euro III 
regulations. The system’s application features on A15 series include closed-loop computerized 
control, sequential multi-injection, grouped direct ignition and three-way catalyst treatment. The 
major functions include:  
- Air measurement in the speed density method of intake air pressure 
- Closed-loop control sequential multi-injection  
- Fuel pump working control 
- Built-in ignition drive module of ECM, independent grouped direct ignition 
- Closed-loop control of knock 
- Closed-loop control of stepping motor idle running 
- Plug-in type air conditioning 
- Cooling water tank fan control 
- Charcoal canister solenoid valve control 
- Self-diagnosis of the system 
- Overvoltage protection
