CAUTION:

Be sure to perform this procedure with several people as the transfer assembly is very heavy.

NOTICE:

Change the vehicle to 2WD mode before removing the transfer shift actuator assembly.

If the vehicle cannot be changed to 2WD mode, since the new transfer shift actuator assembly is set in the

2. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY

3. REMOVE PROPELLER WITH CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSEMBLY

4. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

5. REMOVE NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY

crossmember sub-assembly.

6. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR

(a) Remove the 4 bolts and rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator

from the transfer assembly.

7. SUPPORT TRANSFER ASSEMBLY

(a) Support the transfer assembly with a transmission jack.

NOTICE:

Secure the transfer assembly to the transmission jack using a

belt, etc. to prevent it from falling.

8. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

(a) Disconnect the 3 connectors, 4 clamps and transfer breather

hose.

9. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 8 bolts.

(b) Pull the transfer assembly straight up and remove it from the automatic transmission assembly.

NOTICE:

Take care not to damage the rear adaptor oil seal with the transfer input shaft spline.

DISASSEMBLY

1. REMOVE LOWER TRANSFER CASE PROTECTOR

(a) Remove the 4 bolts and lower transfer case protector.

2. REMOVE WIRING HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET

(a) Remove the 3 bolts and 3 wiring harness clamp brackets.

(b) Disconnect the connector and 3 clamps.

(c) Remove the 2 bolts and wiring harness clamp bracket.

3. REMOVE TRANSFER SHIFT ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY 

4. REMOVE OUTPUT SHAFT COMPANION FLANGE SUB-ASSEMBLY (REAR)

(c) Using a 30 mm socket wrench, remove the transfer output shaft nut.

(d) Remove the O-ring.

(e) Using SST, remove the output shaft companion flange

sub-assembly (rear).

5. REMOVE TRANSFER OUTPUT SHAFT TYPE T OIL SEAL 

6. REMOVE TRANSFER INDICATOR SWITCH 

7. REMOVE REAR TRANSFER CASE

(a) Using a 40 IP ''TORX PLUS'' socket wrench or T40 ''TORX'' socket

wrench, remove the 17 bolts.

(b) Remove the rear transfer case.

HINT:

If necessary, tap the rear transfer case with a plastic-faced hammer to remove it.

8. REMOVE SOLENOID COIL SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Disconnect the solenoid coil sub-assembly terminal.
