Ford F150 Pickup. Instruction - part 1402

other self-tests or driving vehicle.

An injector circuit fault can result in unrelated DTCs being received from PCM. If engine idles rough or
Continuous Memory DTCs are present, turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, select INJxF PIDs
from PID/DATA MONITOR & RECORD menu. There is one INJxF PID available for each engine cylinder
and the "x" indicates the appropriate injector number (1-10). If any PID value indicates YES, an injector fault
exists. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and disregard any DTCs that are present at this time. On CNG
models, go to TEST HA, step 60) under SYSTEM TESTS. On all others, go to TEST H, step 56) under
SYSTEM TESTS. If all PID values indicate NO, service DTCs that are present in the following order: KOEO
DTCs, KOER DTCs and then continuous memory DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE
DEFINITIONS
. After test is complete, cycle ignition switch before performing other self-tests or driving
vehicle.

ADDITIONAL SYSTEM FUNCTIONS

PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION MODE

Description

PID mode allows access to certain data values, analog and digital inputs and outputs, calculated values, and
system status information. There are 2 types of PID lists available. The first is a Generic OBD-II PID list. This
is a standard set of PIDs that all scan tools can access. The second is a Ford specific PID list that can be
accessed by using New Generation Star (NGS) scan tool or Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS). PID values
are continuously updated when accessing PIDs from a specific PID list.

Accessing Generic OBD-II PIDs

Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Ensure test equipment is properly attached. Program scan tool using the
following steps:

z

Select VEHICLE & ENGINE SELECTION menu.

z

Select NEW VEHICLE, YEAR & MODEL.

z

Select GENERIC OBD-II OPTIONS. Press CONT button if monitors are not complete.

z

Select PID/DATA MONITOR & RECORD.

z

Turn ignition switch to ON position or start engine and allow to idle.

z

Follow operating instructions from scan tool menu.

z

Select PIDs and press START to begin monitoring. If PID value is not as specified, perform appropriate
SYSTEM TEST.

Accessing Ford Specific PIDs

Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Ensure test equipment is properly attached. Program scan tool using the
following steps:

z

Select VEHICLE & ENGINE SELECTION menu.

z

Select NEW VEHICLE, YEAR & MODEL.

z

Select DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK.

z

Select POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE.

z

Select PID/DATA MONITOR & RECORD.

z

Turn ignition switch to ON position or start engine and allow to idle.

NOTE:

Additional diagnostic system features are available to help diagnose driveability
concerns and service EEC-V systems.

NOTE:

For complete listing of generic and Ford specific PIDs, see appropriate PIN
VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article.

ON-BOARD SYSTEM READINESS TEST MODE

Description

All OBD-II scan tools should be able to display On-Board System Readings (OSR) test. The OSR will display
monitors on the vehicle and status of all monitors; complete or not complete. If not complete, the scan tool will
display which monitor has not completed. Comprehensive component, fuel and misfire monitors run
continuously and will always display YES. Only a PCM reset, or keep alive RAM reset will cause non-
continuous monitors to reinitialize and display NO.

Accessing OSR Test Mode

To enter OSR test mode, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Ensure test equipment is properly attached.
Program scan tool using the following steps:

z

Select VEHICLE & ENGINE SELECTION menu.

z

Select NEW VEHICLE, YEAR & MODEL.

z

Follow operating instructions from scan tool menu.

z

Select GENERIC OBD-II FUNCTIONS. Press TEST button if monitors are not complete.

z

Start engine and allow to idle.

z

Select ON-BOARD SYSTEM READINESS.

FREEZE FRAME DATA MODE

Description

FREEZE FRAME DATA MODE allows access to emission-related values from specific generic Parameter
Identifications (PIDs). These PID values are stored when an emission-related DTC is stored in continuous
memory and provide a snapshot of the conditions that were present when DTC was stored. See FREEZE
FRAME DATA
 table.

Freeze frame data will remain in memory even if another emission-related DTC is stored, with exception to
misfire or fuel system DTCs. When freeze frame data for a misfire or fuel system DTC is stored, it will
overwrite any previous data and freeze frame data will not be overwritten. When freeze frame DTCs are erased
or a PCM memory reset is performed, new freeze frame data will be stored. If multiple emission-related DTCs
are stored in memory, always note freeze frame data DTC. Some unique PIDs are stored in PCM keep alive
RAM to help in diagnosing root causes to misfires. See MISFIRE FREEZE-FRAME PIDS table.

These unique PIDs are collectively called Misfire Freeze Frame (MFF) data. These PIDs are separate from
generic freeze frame data that is stored for MIL codes and are used for misfire diagnosis only. MFF data is more
useful for misfire diagnosis than normal diagnosis alone. MFF is captured at time of highest misfire rate, not
when DTCs are normally stored at the end of a 1000 or 200 revolution block. Generic freeze frame data for a
misfire can be stored minutes after a misfire actually occurs.
