Removal & Installation (Rear In-Bed Tank) 

1. Turn in the instruction lockdown valve jackscrew on the rear in-bed fuel tank solenoid valve. See Fig. 7 . 

Disconnect the battery ground cable. Remove the in-bed tank assembly cover retaining bolts. See Fig. 
34
 . Remove the in-bed tank assembly cover. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the rear in-bed 
fuel tank pressure sensor, solenoid valve and temperature sensor (1). See Fig. 37 . Disconnect the jumper 
fuel line from the rear in-bed fuel tank solenoid valve (2). Place identification marks on the upper in-bed 
fuel tank straps and tank. Remove the upper in-bed fuel tank strap retaining bolts. See Fig. 36 . Remove 
the upper in-bed fuel tank straps. Position the heavy duty Floor Crane (014-00072), Separator Lift Bar 
(303-F054) and endless Lifting Sling (100-D008). Carefully raise and remove the rear in-bed fuel tank.  

2. To install, reverse removal procedure. Lubricate NEW "O" rings with 5W-30 engine oil. Align the 

identification marks on the upper in-bed fuel tank straps and tank. After installation is complete, natural 
gas fuel lines must be leak tested. Perform COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS LEAK TEST under 
FUEL SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - CNG article.  

NOTE:

Numbers in parenthesis refer to numbers in illustration.

NOTE:

Use extra care so that the sensors are not damaged during removal.

Removal & Installation (Mid-Tank) 

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove the inboard stone shield 

retaining nuts. See Fig. 38 . Remove the outboard stone shield retaining nuts. See Fig. 39 . Remove the 
stone shield. Disconnect the high-pressure fuel line from the fuel tank solenoid valve (1). See Fig. 40 . 
Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel tank solenoid valve (2). Place identification marks on 
fuel tank support straps and tank. Remove upper stone shield support strap. See Fig. 41 . Install 
powertrain lift with tilting plate. Secure fuel tank with a nylon tie-down strap. Remove rear fuel tank 
support strap retaining nut. See Fig. 42 . Remove the rear fuel tank support strap, and position aside. 
Remove front fuel tank support strap retaining bolts. See Fig. 43 . Carefully move the fuel tank rearward 
while lowering so that the upper fuel tank stone shield will clear the No. 3 crossmember.  

2. To install, reverse removal procedure. Align the identification marks on the fuel tank support straps and 

tank. Lubricate NEW "O" rings with 5W-30 engine oil. After installation is complete, natural gas fuel 
lines must be leak tested. Perform COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS LEAK TEST under FUEL 
SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - CNG article.
