CAUTION: Cap all open ends of power steering
hoses, power steering pump fittings and steering
gear ports when disconnected. This will prevent the
entry of foreign material into the components dur-
ing servicing.

(1) Disconnect negative (-) cable from battery and

isolate cable.

(2) Remove air cleaner housing. (Refer to 9 -

ENGINE/AIR

INTAKE

SYSTEM/AIR

CLEANER

HOUSING - REMOVAL)

(3) Siphon power steering fluid from fluid reser-

voir.

(4) Unthread power steering pressure hose quick-

connect from hydraulic fan (Fig. 7). Drain excess
power steering fluid from line.

(5) Unthread power steering pressure hose tube

nut from power steering gear port (Fig. 7). Drain
excess power steering fluid from line.

(6) Remove power steering pressure hose.

INSTALLATION

NOTE:

Before

installing

power

steering

hose,

replace used O-rings as necessary. Clean hose
ends and open ports with a lint-free cloth. Lubricate
O-rings with clean power steering fluid.

(1) Thread power steering pressure hose tube nut

on end of hose into power steering gear port (Fig. 7).
Tighten tube nut to 28 N·m (21 ft. lbs.) torque.

(2) If fan end of pressure hose is separate from

quick-connect fitting:

(a) Thread quick-connect fitting into cooling fan

port (Fig. 7). Tighten fitting to 28 N·m (21 ft. lbs.)
torque.

(b) Slide fan end of pressure hose tube into

quick-connect fitting until it locks into place.
(3) If fan end of pressure hose has quick-connect

fitting installed, thread fan end quick-connect fitting
into fan port. Tighten fitting to 28 N·m (21 ft. lbs.)
torque.

(4) Install air cleaner. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/AIR

INTAKE SYSTEM - INSTALLATION)

(5) Connect the battery negative (-) cable to bat-

tery negative battery terminal.

CAUTION: Do not use automatic transmission fluid
in power steering system. Use only Mopar

(6) Fill power steering pump reservoir to correct

fluid level. (Refer to 19 - STEERING/PUMP/FLUID -
STANDARD PROCEDURE)

(7) Perform Power Steering Pump Initial Opera-

tion procedure. (Refer to 19 - STEERING/PUMP -
STANDARD PROCEDURE).

(8) Check for leaks at all hose connections.

REMOVAL

NOTE: Review all Warnings and Cautions. (Refer to
19 - STEERING - WARNING).

CAUTION: Cap all open ends of power steering

(1) Disconnect negative (-) cable from battery and

isolate cable.

(2) Remove air cleaner housing. (Refer to 9 -

(3) Siphon power steering fluid from fluid reser-

voir.

(4) Remove clamp, then return hose at reservoir

(Fig. 7).

(5) Remove clamp, then return hose at fan (Fig. 7).
(6) Remove power steering return hose from rout-

ing clip on cooling module (Fig. 7). Remove hose.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: Before installing power steering hose, clean
open power steering hose ends and fittings with a
lint-free towel.

(1) Slide hose clamps onto ends of return hose far

enough to clear molded fitting on pump reservoir and
fan fitting once hose is installed.

(2) Slide fan end of return hose onto fan fluid fit-

ting (Fig. 7). Expand hose clamp and slide it into
position on hose past bead formed into fitting.

(3) Install power steering pressure hose into rout-

ing clip on cooling module (Fig. 7).

(4) Slide pump end of return hose onto molded fit-

ting on pump reservoir (Fig. 7). Expand hose clamp
and slide it into position on hose past bead formed
into reservoir fitting.

(5) Install air cleaner. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/AIR

INTAKE SYSTEM - INSTALLATION)

(6) Connect the battery negative (-) cable to bat-

tery negative battery terminal.

CAUTION: Do not use automatic transmission fluid
in power steering system. Use only Mopar

(7) Fill power steering pump reservoir to correct

fluid level. (Refer to 19 - STEERING/PUMP/FLUID -

(8) Perform Power Steering Pump Initial Opera-

tion procedure. (Refer to 19 - STEERING/PUMP -
STANDARD PROCEDURE).

(9) Check for leaks at all hose connections.

REMOVAL

(3) Siphon power steering fluid from fluid reser-

voir.

(4) Unthread power steering return hose tube nut

from power steering gear port (Fig. 7). Pull tube out
of gear port and drain excess power steering fluid
from line.

(5) Remove two radiator mounting screws (Fig. 8).

(6) Reposition radiator upward. It will move about

1/4 inch.

(7) Raise vehicle. (Refer to LUBRICATION &

MAINTENANCE/HOISTING - STANDARD PROCE-
DURE)

(8) Remove front extension belly pan. (Refer to 23 -

BODY/EXTERIOR/BELLY PAN - REMOVAL)

(9) Return hose can be removed from fluid cooler

two different ways:

(a) Unthread quick-connect tube nut from fluid

cooler (Fig. 6).

(b) Using

directed in figure, disconnect hose tube at cooler
(Fig. 5). Tube nut stays in cooler.
(10) While lifting left (driver’s) side of radiator,

slide return hose outward at left (driver’s side) lower
corner between radiator and enclosure panel and
remove from vehicle.

INSTALLATION

NOTE:

Before

installing

power

steering

hose,

replace used O-rings as necessary. Clean hose
ends, fittings and open ports with a lint-free cloth.
Lubricate O-rings with clean power steering fluid.

(1) Install return hose into engine compartment

using reverse of how it was removed.

(2) Install hose at fluid cooler using one of follow-

ing applicable ways:

(a) If quick-connect tube nut is on end of hose,

thread tube nut into fluid cooler port (Fig. 6).
Tighten tube nut to 15 N·m (130 in. lbs.) torque.

(b) If quick-connect tube nut is threaded into

fluid cooler port, separate of hose, slide end of hose
tube into quick-connect tube nut until it locks into
place (Fig. 7).
(3) Install front extension belly pan. (Refer to 23 -

BODY/EXTERIOR/BELLY PAN - INSTALLATION)

(4) Lower vehicle.
(5) Position radiator and install mounting screws

(Fig. 8). Tighten mounting screws to 5 N·m (45 in.
lbs.) torque.

(6) Thread return hose tube nut on gear end of

hose into power steering gear port (Fig. 7). Tighten
tube nut to 28 N·m (21 ft. lbs.) torque.

(7) Install air cleaner. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/AIR

INTAKE SYSTEM - INSTALLATION)

(8) Connect the battery negative (-) cable to bat-

tery negative battery terminal.

CAUTION: Do not use automatic transmission fluid
in power steering system. Use only Mopar

(9) Fill power steering pump reservoir to correct

fluid level. (Refer to 19 - STEERING/PUMP/FLUID -
STANDARD PROCEDURE)

(10) Perform Power Steering Pump Initial Opera-

tion procedure. (Refer to 19 - STEERING/PUMP -
STANDARD PROCEDURE).

(11) Check for leaks at all hose connections.

REMOVAL

voir.

(4) Disconnect A/C clutch coil wire connector (Fig.

9).

(5) Remove clamp, then return hose at reservoir

(Fig. 7).

(6) Remove two radiator mounting screws (Fig. 8).
(7) Reposition radiator upward. It will move about

1/4 inch.

(8) Raise vehicle. (Refer to LUBRICATION &

MAINTENANCE/HOISTING - STANDARD PROCE-
DURE)

(9) Remove front extension belly pan. (Refer to 23 -

(10) Return hose can be removed from fluid cooler

(5) Position radiator and install mounting screws

(Fig. 8). Tighten mounting screws to 5 N·m (45 in.
lbs.) torque.

(6) Slide pump end of return hose onto molded fit-

ting of pump reservoir (Fig. 7). Expand hose clamp
and slide it into position on hose past bead formed
into reservoir fitting.

(7) Connect A/C clutch coil wire connector (Fig. 9).
(8) Install air cleaner. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/AIR

INTAKE SYSTEM - INSTALLATION)

(9) Connect the battery negative (-) cable to bat-

tery negative battery terminal.

(10) Fill power steering pump reservoir to correct

fluid level. (Refer to 19 - STEERING/PUMP/FLUID -
STANDARD PROCEDURE)

(11) Perform Power Steering Pump Initial Opera-

tion procedure. (Refer to 19 - STEERING/PUMP -
STANDARD PROCEDURE).

(12) Check for leaks at all hose connections.

RESERVOIR

REMOVAL

(1) Remove power steering pump from vehicle.

(Refer to 19 - STEERING/PUMP - REMOVAL)

(2) Clean exterior of pump.
(3) Clamp pump body in a soft jaw vice.

NOTE: Use new retaining clips for installation.

(4) Pry up tab and slide each retaining clip off

pump (Fig. 10). Discard clips.

(5) Remove fluid reservoir from pump housing.

Remove and discard O-ring seal.

INSTALLATION

(1) Lubricate new O-ring Seal with clean Mopar
