(6) Inspect the shock assembly components for the following and replace as necessary: • Inspect the shock absorber for any condition of shaft binding over the full stroke of the shaft. • Check the upper seat and lower seat for cracks and distortion. • Inspect the jounce bumper for cracks and signs of deterioration. • Inspect the plastic collar for cracks and signs of deterioration. NOTE: For shock assembly reassembly, (Refer to 2 ASSEMBLY NOTE: If the coil spring has been removed from the (1) Place the coil spring in the compressor follow- ing the manufacturers instructions. Install the coil (2) Compress the coil spring. of the coil spring until the lower spring seat contacts (4) While holding the shock, collar and jounce bumper upward, install the upper seat on the shock (5) Position the upper seat on the top of the coil spring so the cutout in the upper seat is not posi- (6) Slowly release the tension from the coil spring by backing off the compressor drive completely. As (7) Push back the spring compressor upper and lower hooks, then remove the shock assembly from (8) Install the shock assembly on the vehicle (Refer to 2 - SUSPENSION/FRONT/SHOCK - INSTALLATION). INSTALLATION (1) Install shock assembly down through center of upper control arm. (2) Install shock assembly in mounting bracket on lower control arm. Install bolt and nut as shown (Fig. (3) Using a pry bar, carefully push down on upper control arm far enough to install top of shock assem- (4) Install shock assembly into frame bracket and install bolt and nut. Do not tighten mounting bolt (5) Install stabilizer bar link into mounting hole on lower control arm (Fig. 17). Install stabilizer bar link (6) Install wheel and tire assembly (Refer to 22 - TIRES/WHEELS - INSTALLATION). Progressively (7) Lower vehicle.
