TEST

ACTION

APPLICABILITY

NOTE: Ensure that the battery is fully charged.
WARNING: TURN THE IGNITION OFF, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND
WAIT TWO MINUTES BEFORE PROCEEDING.
Disconnect the Passenger Airbag On-Off Switch.
NOTE: Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
Measure the PAB On-Off Switch resistance between terminals 1 and 2 in both switch
positions.
The switch resistance specifications are: ON position = 175.0 to 190.0 ohms and OFF
position = 820.0 to 870.0 ohms.
Is the resistance within range for both switch positions?

All

Yes

→

Go To

→

Replace the Passenger Airbag ON-OFF Switch.
Perform AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

NOTE: When reconnecting airbag system components the Ignition must be
turned off and the Battery must be disconnected.

NOTE: Ensure that the battery is fully charged.
WARNING: TURN IGNITION OFF, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND WAIT
TWO MINUTES BEFORE PROCEEDING.
WARNING: IF THE AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE IS DROPPED AT ANY
TIME, IT MUST BE REPLACED.
Disconnect the Passenger On-Off Switch connector.
Disconnect the Airbag Control Module connector
NOTE: Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
Measure the resistance of the PAB MUX Switch Sense circuit between the PAB
On-Off Switch connector and ground.
Is the resistance on either circuits below 10.0K ohms?

All

Yes

→

Repair the Passenger Airbag MUX Switch Sense circuits shorted
to ground.
Perform AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

NOTE: When reconnecting Airbag system components, the ignition must be
turned off and the battery must be disconnected.

WARNING: TURN IGNITION OFF, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND WAIT
TWO MINUTES BEFORE PROCEEDING.
WARNING: IF THE AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE IS DROPPED AT ANY
TIME, IT MUST BE REPLACED.
Disconnect the Passenger On-Off Switch connector.
Disconnect the Airbag Control Module connector.
NOTE: Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
Measure the resistance between the PAB MUX Switch Sense and PUB MUX Switch
Return circuit at the PAB On—Off Switch connector.
If the resistance below 10.0K ohms?

All

Yes

→

Repair the Passenger Airbag MUX Switch circuits shorted to-
gether.
Perform AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

WARNING: TURN IGNITION OFF, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND WAIT
TWO MINUTES BEFORE PROCEEDING.
WARNING: IF THE AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE IS DROPPED AT ANY
TIME, IT MUST BE REPLACED.
If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair.

Repair

Replace the Airbag Control Module in accordance with Service
Instructions. WARNING: make sure the battery is disconnected
and wait 2 minutes before proceeding.
Perform AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

NOTE: When reconnecting airbag system components the Ignition must be
turned off and the Battery must be disconnected.

Symptom:

PASSENGER SBT CIRCUIT OPEN - ACTIVE

When Monitored and Set Condition:

PASSENGER SBT CIRCUIT OPEN - ACTIVE

When Monitored:

When the ignition is On, the ACM monitors the resistance of the

Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner circuits.

Set Condition:

The ACM has detected an open circuit or high resistance or open circuit in

the Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner circuits.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

PASSENGER SBT CIRCUITS OPEN

PASSENGER SBT LINE 1 CIRCUIT OPEN

PASSENGER SBT LINE 2 CIRCUIT OPEN

PASSENGER SBT CIRCUITS OPEN

Disconnect the Passenger SBT connector.
NOTE: Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
Connect the SRS Load Tool 8443 Passenger cable and jumper to the Passenger SBT
connector.
WARNING: TURN IGNITION ON, THEN RECONNECT THE BATTERY.
With the DRBIII

t, read the active DTC’s.

Does the DRBIII

t display PASSENGER SBT CIRCUIT OPEN?

All

Yes

→

Go To

→

Replace the Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner in accordance with the
Service Information.
Perform AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

NOTE: When reconnecting Airbag system components, the ignition must be
turned off and the battery must be disconnected.

Disconnect the Passenger SBT.
Disconnect the Airbag Control Module Connector.
NOTE: Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
Connect the SRS load tool 8443 ACM Adaptor to the Airbag Control Module
connector.
Measure the resistance of the Right Seat Belt Tensioner Line 1 circuit between the
SRS Load Tool ORC Adaptor connector and the Passenger SBT connector.
Is the resistance below 1.0 ohms ?

All

Yes

→

Go To

→

Repair open or high resistance in Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner
Line 1 circuit.
Perform AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

NOTE: When reconnecting airbag system components the Ignition must be
turned off and the Battery must be disconnected.

WARNING: TURN IGNITION OFF, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND WAIT
TWO MINUTES BEFORE PROCEEDING.
Disconnect the Passenger SBT.
Disconnect the Airbag Control Module connector.
NOTE: Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
Connect the SRS Load Tool 8443 ACM Adaptor to the Airbag Control Module
connector.
Measure the resistance of the Passenger SBT Line 2 circuit between the SRS Load
Tool 8443 ACM Adaptor and the Passenger SBT connector.
Is the resistance below 1.0 ohms?

All

Yes

Go To

→

Repair open or high resistance in Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner
Line 2 circuit.
Perform AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

NOTE: When reconnecting airbag system components the Ignition must be
turned off and the Battery must be disconnected.
